Blogger's Slump?

scarf 6.JPG

the scoop

Well gang, I must confess my heart is not into blogging lately. I am in a total slump and have no vision or inspiration for fun new looks to share. I am not sure if it is a temporary thing or what but I am struggling and have been for most of the summer. Is that called a blogger's slump? I don't know but I got it bad. So I am going to take the month of August off and see if some time off will help me get my mojo back. I'll take some time and try to enjoy some summer with family and friends and hope this passes. Some good old fashion taking care of myself may go a long way. Finger's crossed!

These pants are so different with the fun hem. I haven't worn them for almost a year and thought wearing them with a white tee might be fun. Then I added an old square scarf and an old pair of wedge sandals to complete my look. My orange tassel earrings and a wicker bag were great accessories.

Summer Color

turq 17.JPG

Summer

color.

the scoop

There are certain colors that feel like summer to me and turquoise is one of those colors. I don't have lot of this color in my closet but the few pieces I have stand the test of time and always are perfect for a summer day.

Speaking of summer it is in full swing here in the mountains. Our days are in the upper 80s and nights in the mid 50s. Perfect temperatures only marred by the fires all over the west including here in Idaho. We couldn't drive down to the city using our normal route today due to fires shutting down the highway. We're hoping they open up by tonight so we can go down. These fires are normal for this time of year in Idaho but they are making our air smokey which can irritate the eyes and throat. But nothing can dull the beauty of this time of  year in my eyes. We're certainly hoping for a short fire season this year for everyone being effected.

turq 1.JPG

sup"

We're going down to the city for the weekend for a furniture delivery to the house and to check out the fabulous Farmer's Market down town. We are also going to one of the local orchards for peaches, they are just coming into season. Normally I would be making jams with them but this year I am so busy I may not tackle that job.

Summer Sweaters

beach 5.JPG

Cotton

Sweaters are always so fabulous!

the scoop

I love summer sweaters. The feel of all cotton is so comfortable and the look is casual. They are perfect for throwing on over a tank top or tee in the cool evenings. I also wear them with skirts, shorts or even over a swim suit.

Here are links to some pretty summer sweaters all on sale!

Also sharing links to some fun shoes and bags!

beach 19.JPG

my look

This free people sweater is from last season but it gets a lot of use still. I love it so much I have it is a soft white too. Here I am wearing it over a lace bralette and pairing it with a really old pair of boot cut jeans. I have had the jeans now 12 or 13 years. They are Lucky Brand which is still one of my favorite brands next to 7 For All Mankind. I am wearing a pair of two tone sandals that have orange and tan leather straps. I have so much orange in my closet these shoes go with almost everything I own. For a bag I am carrying my thrift shop find from a couple of years ago. It was in new condition and so cute! For jewelry I am wearing a Mexican Fire Opal, hands down my favorite necklace.

sup'

After a week of no Internet while we were setting up our house in the city I am back in the mountains escaping the 100 degree temps. We finally got the Internet connected just before I left so next time I'm down there I will be able to keep with my posts. I can't believe I missed two posts, a rare thing indeed!

Now I am getting our house in the mountains ready for house guests. My son and grandson are coming to visit for a week and we have so much planned. My grandson and I are big on snake hunting, rock collecting and making root beer floats! He is a real outdoors type just like me. We may even do some huckleberry picking. I know we will spend time at the lake swimming and sandcastle building too. My son and I will do some trail running and wine tasting. We always have such a good time together, he is so much like me it is crazy. We plan on doing a lot of cooking too.

Closing Day!

closing 10.JPG

What to wear

to a house closing

the scoop

A couple of things here goin' on. Maybe three . . . It's closing day on the house in the city and I am so excited. But I'm almost as excited about these jeans. I mean they are hands down my favorite pair for summer. So boho, so comfy, so me! But wait there's more! This top with these jeans is crazy my loves! CRAZY!

But back to the house. I am headed down with a big truck load of stuff, doing the final walk through and picking up the keys. I will spend the night in a sleeping bag. Ugh. Because bright and early in the morning some of my furniture is being delivered. So a fun little camp-out for me!  Think giant pizza on the floor, TV hooked up to rabbit ears. Ha ha! But it's the beginning of fun projects of putting together our place. My husband will follow along shortly after. He is the president of the Idaho Aviation Association, McCall Chapter and the annual fly-in is tomorrow and he has to be there for that. Then he and the fur babies will be on their way to help because its all hands on deck this weekend.

Linking exact jeans and similar items for creating your own look!

closing 11.JPG

just a bit of

Boho

my look

These jeans went out of stock in most sizes when I first wrote this post, then they were restocked but I am sure they will sell out again really fast. I snatched up a second pair as soon as I saw them available.  This top is so boho! You can wear it like a peasant blouse or off the shoulders. I mean how fun it that? My shoes are old but perfect low heeled sandals in orange and tan. The fun little bag was a thrift find and I love it! My layered necklace is old too. It's hard to see but it had a pineapple and star and other beach type things.

Linking more fun tops and sandals.

Got Kimono?

kim 4.JPG

Kimono and Jeans

Sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G

the scoop

I don't know what I want to talk about first, the kimono or the jeans. I talked about my latest kimono additions here. The green tropical maxi kimono is totally a favorite but this is the other one I got from Amazon and the colors just sing! They are my colors! If I had a flag it would be in oranges!

But wait, the jeans. Holy Moly, they are goodins'! Yes they have become my favorite jeans for summer 2018. They look like they are from 1979 which is a big part of why I love them. Now it's obvious I was alive and wearing similar jeans in 1979 but there is a big difference. Back then there was no stretch in the jeans so not quite as comfortable but these have a little bit of stretch. Not enough to make them stretch out but enough that they fit in all the right places. Hello lover! Ha ha. Nope, not drinking wine, just iced coffee.

sup?

In my effort to make sure I spelled that right I learned this . . .

Urban Dictionary: sup
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=sup
  1.
A term that cool people use because they are too damn lazy to say What's up. (Too much effort involved there man.)

Now I beg to differ because I just spent a great deal of time, looking it up and putting it in this post which ended up even more difficult because I wanted it in the quote format.  Just saying.

Along with my kimono and favorite jeans of the summer I wore a white lined cami and white low heeled mules. I carried a little wicker bag and for jewelry I wore orange tassel earrings and a layered necklace. God only knows what was going on with my hair though.

Summer Chic

all black 1.JPG

the scoop

I love summer fashion but I think options are limited when it comes to variety. Other seasons give you more of an opportunity to layer which provides endless options and creativity. But I must admit putting together an outfit for an evening out is a lot of fun when you don't have to think about keeping warm. And I think a monochromatic look is so chic for summer. All black or all white just always works.

Linking exact jeans, shoes and top (limited sizes and colors) and a couple of similar tops and fun bags for summer.

all black 11.JPG

my look

This top covers a lot but yet it doesn't. The sleeves are sheer so not at all too warm for evenings and baring the shoulders is also a comfortable way to keep cool. This top is great because it is nicely secured around the neck. You don't even think about it falling or being too revealing. I decided to wear it with cropped black denim for a chic look. I had packed most of my belts to move to our other house so had to use this silver metal belt which I ended up actually liking. Nothing makes black pop more than tan shoes and bags so there you have it. A complete look. I added colorful earrings for fun. It wasn't planned but red toes and white nails added even more interest to this look.

Why I Said Good Bye To Social Media

black 9.JPG

Life

should be lived in the present.

the scoop

I've been asked many times now several questions about deleting most of my social media accounts. Why did I leave? Has it affected my blog numbers? How does it feel to not be on my phone or computer so much are just a few of the questions. I thought in this post I would let you know how it is going or has turned out.

Why did I delete?

In early June I deleted my Facebook, Google+ and Twitter accounts. Why? Mostly because I think they only promote competition and self doubt. But also because they misuse the trust people put in them regarding privacy. I also didn't like the feeling of always needing to be online to promote, reciprocate, be perfect, etc. The endless feeling of unrest was just stupid in my mind. Social media didn't own me, I owned it. So I took control. I still have my IG account but have basically ghosted it for a month or so. I want to delete it too but am still considering the fact that it used to be my favorite form of social media. I enjoyed sharing and liking with my IG friends. But at some point they disappeared and the whole thing became frustrating. And any new followers I got were men who had no interest in fashion or the life style of a woman my age. So I am pretty sure I will nix it soon.

I still love Pinterest and will be holding on to it. It is relaxing and doesn't make me feel like I owe it or someone else something. I hope they don't change it and screw it up. I use Bloglovin' to track the blogs I follow and will stay with it for now too. It seems non invasive so I'm good with it.

how has it effected my blog?

My blog numbers are down about 21%  month on month. I don't blame it all on quitting social media though. I have slacked off on my commenting and participating in link ups as well as shut down my own link up party account (Style Wise). The biggest decrease came from letting it go. But dropping off  21% seems worth all the freedom I am feeling these days. I also feel like this fall when I get back into things I can bring the numbers back up. Summer's are usually slow in the blogsphere. People can get out more and don't want to spend as much time online. And I agree and support that! And I am still up 73% in unique visitors and 43% views year on year so that is awesome! I remember when I only had one or two visitors and was happy with that! Ha ha!

I still get daily invites for collaborations but I'm no longer interested in them either. It is another way of me trying to be something I am not. Once in a great while I will hook up to help someone out but mostly I just say no. I've come to learn that the the brands benefit much more than the influencers most of the time. I am always open to helping a cause if I can though.

I love affiliate programs and use Reward Style all the time. I enjoy it and it helps pay for some of my blogging expenses. They are so nice and helpful and fair! Mostly it's a great way for me so share my style with others.

black 3.JPG

how did it effect me?

I have a lot more free time on my hands! I can fit in reading a book, talking on the phone, going for walks, cooking. You get the picture. Smell the roses. It was a little difficult at first because I was worried my blog would tank. But I told myself that I wanted readers that were long term, not blue birds that flitted in accidentally. And an organic following would build that kind of readership.

Right now I am very honored to have the readers I have and enjoy getting to know them and interact through my blog. I have my creative outlet, a fun hobby and amazing readers. It's all good! I can look to the future of my evolving interests and know I am being supported by the most amazing people ever!

will i return?

I never say never about anything. But I don't see myself returning to facebook, twitter or google+. I may revive my Style Wise Link Up party in the fall because although it was a lot of extra work, it was fun. IG is still on the chopping block. I would love some input. Would you delete it? Are you on social media? Do you enjoy it? I would love to hear what other's think!

my look

I was so taken by this fun top when I saw it because of the big bell sleeves and the black trim on them. I also liked the style of this top with the buttons half way down the front and an almost peasant design. I could see it would be perfect for so many outfits. I mean black and white is the original basic! I wore it with a pair of cropped shinny jeans and tan wedge sandals and a basket tote completed this look.

Softer Side Of Style

pale 10.JPG

Sometimes . . .

I feel quiet and wear softer colors.

the scoop

Some days I am slow on the uptake and want to sort of lay low and be quiet. Wearing softer colors feels right on those days. Neutrals are a way to stay in the background and observe. This to me is the softer side of style.

Linking my exact top in Petal Pink, exact jeans (size down), adorable tote and mules.

my look

I'm wearing white flared jeans in this look. They are stretchy and high waisted and so comfortable. I wore a soft pink top, tan mules and carried a neutral tote. Everything was soft and quiet. The top had a lot of detail which made it fun. A Swiss Dot yoke and sleeves and a lace-up front are so pretty.

Here are some more beautiful pink tops all on sale! Also I'm linking some more cute totes and mules!

Making Camo Feminine

camo 9.JPG

Camo

Feeling feminine in a masculine pattern.

the scoop

I grew up in an area where people hunted and camo was worn for that purpose. I never really thought of wearing camo until the last few years of watching it being transformed into so many fun outfits. I now have this pattern in a tee, shirt, jacket and jeans. I love them all and find them so versatile. I have found that I can put together really feminine looks now and it's fun.

Now is a great time to get a field jacket. Linking several below, all on sale. Perfect to tie around your waist outside but put on in the cold resturants and shops.

camo 3.JPG

Stella

my look

For this look I am wearing a black tee dress. It is just tee shirt material with a relaxed fit and slit pockets on the sides. A favorite dress for me. I added a camo jacket since we have not even made it to the 70s most days here in the mountains. I wore a pair of platform espadrilles, and a pink cap to add feminine touches. I carried an old picnic basket for a tote to complete my look.

Candy Land

pink 1.JPG

Color me Candy!

the scoop

I never want to take this cami and these pumps off! They zero in on the part of my brain that says HAPPY! The colors of these pieces make me think of all the wonderful candies of my childhood. I remember getting a dollar and walking or riding my bike the two miles to the Ben Franklin's store in town and spending it all on candy and then eating it all the way home. Simple joys of childhood never leave me! I remember the candy isle of that store and all the options and decisions. So fun!

Linking up my cami. It comes in lots of colors and they restock often so if you can't find the color you want check back. I am wearing boyfriend jeans and linked up similar ones as well as fun shoe and bag options for creating your own look!

Delicious

is how I describe these colors!

my look

This cami is a new staple in my closet. I have it in black, white, mustard, cream and this pink. I have one in black and one in cream that have a fun little panel in the front too. It is lined and fits perfectly and can be worn with everything. I will use them all year long because they are great for layering as temperatures dip.

I wore my cami with ripped jeans that I got a couple of years ago and a old duster along with pumps purchased earlier this spring. See posts with these shoes here and here. I wore my Tuckernuck earrings and carried my thrifted bag to complete this look.

How I Created A Shorts Suit

black shorts 5.JPG

Suit Up

for summer!

the scoop

I've been inspired this spring by bloggers wearing shorts suits. I have wanted one but not really seen the right thing. But then I found these cute shorts and thought if I wore my white blazer I would have the look of a suit. And yep I was right! I could switch it out with my black blazer for another look! Now I'm excited because I have similar shorts in red and white that I want to style this way.

the end of style wise link up

I have reported here on the blog that I have cut back on social media platforms and am finding ways to unplug and be in the now. With summer arriving and lots of company visiting this season (starting this weekend) as well as house hunting for a place in this city ( put in an offer today on one, fingers crossed) I am ready to let go of more of the work part of blogging and just focus on the fun part. As much as I love the community of  the Style Wise Link Up it is time for it to end. Thanks to everyone who has participated and supported the link up, I hope you will continue to stop by when you have time.

I'm linking options for creating your own look! My shorts are sold out and everything else is old.

These shorts are from H&M. I rarely shop there (the closest one is 100 miles away) but I saw these shorts and thought they would be so fun for summer. I paired them with a white blazer that was in my closet and created a summer suit. I wore tan mules, a black ruffled cami and carried my leopard clutch. I wore an old silver necklace and big hoop earrings to complete this look. Next time I will wear a white cami and a black blazer to mix it up!

Most of the linked blazers come in black and white.

Something New In Denim

denim 1.JPG

Demin

Jumpsuit Style

the scoop

When I saw this jumpsuit I thought it was different and fun in so many ways. I've never had a jumpsuit and have been wanting one for a few years so this was going to fill the bill. I have to say the comfort level was 100%! It was just like having PJs on. Also, I liked that it was a new form of denim for me. I was certainly stepping out of my comfort zone with this look and I'm happy I did.

I got this jumpsuit and Marshalls about two weeks ago but when I was in the store last weekend I saw they still had them. So if you are near one, I would check there.

denim 20.JPG

my look

The fun thing about a jumpsuit is that they are easy. Not a lot to think about, you just put them on and go. I wore a fun pair of red mules with mine. They were easy to kick off when I wanted to relax but added a little pizzazz to the look. I wore a really old necklace that goes with everything. It was a one of a kind made in a small jewelry shop where I lived a long time ago. A navy fringed clutch completed my look.

They Call Me Mellow Yellow

festive 7.JPG

when you know a hero

This is a last minute add in. I don't talk much about my immediate family, I respect their privacy and my blog is about frivolous things and not personal things. But I have to share this story. Today my youngest son called me and told me about something that had just happened.

He was driving on the highway in Kansas City where he lives and an older woman had made a move that angered a younger man. The man began trying to run her off the road and finally got in front of her and stopped her. My son pulled in behind her and watched as the man got out of his truck with a small knife. My son grabbed his big wooden umbrella and got out of his car and told the guy to get away. My son is big and strong and the guy stopped immediately and turned to run away but first stabbed the lady's tire. He got in his truck and did a u turn and took off. My son got in his car and followed him and got his license plate number and a picture of the car. Then he went back to the lady who was with her 12-year-old granddaughter and called the police. They came and he gave them all the information he had attained and made sure the lady and her grand daughter were okay before calling me.

I was so proud of my son and so scared for him. My heart was in my throat as I listened to his story. He was very brave and did the right thing. Too many people would have not stopped to help and he did. He is not stupid, he said he looked at the situation carefully and knew he could take the guy down in a heartbeat. He was furious that someone would try to hurt an older lady and a child. He said he could not stand by and let it happen. I am so proud of my son. He is my hero. He was a hero for someone he didn't even know. She was so grateful and shaken. He said she could barely write his name down. I feel so bad for her but happy that someone was there to help her. No one else will ever know this story but that is what being a hero is, helping others in trouble without thought to yourself. And I know a hero.

the scoop

Yellow has cast it's spell on me this spring. I have never been a fan of yellow. When I was a small child I got lots of ear infections and the medicine I was given was yellow. I still remember the taste and the trauma of being held down while warm ear drops where put in my ears. It was very upsetting to me and I never forgot it and every time I saw yellow the memories came back. And even now I recall those times but I am pretty much over blaming the color yellow. Ha ha!

Linking my top (limited sizing), and several other fabulous tops in yellows.

festive 1.JPG

wearing yellow

my look

This top is sort of a light mustard color and the minute I saw it, I liked it. The fact that it had the cold shoulder design and was in a sort of linen fabric made it even more appealing. I wore it with my DIY cut off shorts and my fabulous striped Seychelles mules that I got last year. The shorts are button fly Lucky Brand and very comfy. I plan to cut off a few more jeans this summer. I usually go to the thrift shops for jeans to cut off which is where I got these.

The Count Down And Other Bits

Five days

until the calendar marks another year to my life.

the scoop

I have heard people say all my life that they are too old to do something anymore. I say I am too old not to do things. If not now, when? That is way more logical. Every time I hear that voice in my head say, you're getting too old for that I take the time to correct it. I'm not too old to do anything and I'm not wasting time debating it. It ain't over for me until I'm in the ground. Ha ha!

So this week the count down has begun to my birthday and each day I plan to do something that some would say I'm too old to do. Today I did my trail run and enjoyed it completely. After my run I made a bowl of steel cut oats with mixed berries and honey and almond milk to break my fast. If you don't know what I'm talking about read here.

outdoor living

The above picture on the left is right outside my front door. The picture on the right is my back deck. It's finally turned summer here and I am loving being outside as much as possible. To smell the pine of the trees and feel the sun on my back is like heaven to me. We sold our old wooden deck furniture this year and bought a comfy seating arrangement and I am loving it. I sit outside and read and watch the wild life and cuddle with my dogs and in the evenings my husband and I play cards and eat dinner outside.

Find what you love to do

and do it!

my look

This is my motivation outfit. If I don't feel like working out I just put on workout clothes and find I am excited to work out. It's just another area where when you look good, you feel good. Oh it's true we all have low days but the trick is to keep up the fight.

I'm wearing capri leggings, a sports tank and running shoes. I have my sunglasses and my running app with music ready to go. What could stop me now?

I almost always get my active wear on sale and here are some great items for great prices!

Each spring I ready our front entry for summer. I have a couple of benches with pillows and a couple of planters that I fill with flowers. I was lazy this year and just planted Marigolds. They are supposed to repel bugs and I love the pretty yellows and oranges. Keeping things simple gives me more time to do the things I love.

I take a lot of pictures in this part of my house because I can usually get enough light for them. It's basically my media room and office area. My laundry room is behind that door and it seems I always have laundry going so it is nice to have it close to my office. I rarely sit still for long so my environment is very functional. I am right next to my kitchen here too. This is nice because I love to cook and almost always have something prepping.

Peace!

It's My Birthday Week!

Hello

58

the scoop

Starting in my late 20s I worried about getting old. I was so afraid I wouldn't get every thing done and done right fast enough.  Turning 30 and then 40 were especially sobering. I joked around on the outside but on the inside I felt strange. I can't explain it.

But on my 50th birthday something clicked and I knew I would be alright. I stayed awake until the clock struck midnight and I looked at myself. I wanted to see what happened the moment I turned a half century old. And you know what? I was still me. And now when a birthday comes and goes I don't even blink. I carry on with living life and being grateful and well, just smelling the roses.

So here I am facing my 58th birthday with a smile on my face and gratefulness in my heart. It's going to be okay and I know it. I take all the changes that come with each year and I look at them with hope, joy, and curiosity. It's all good.

Linking my LBD and others that I love!

Here is my pink denim jacket and more fun out of the box styles!

life

It's a good thing.

my look

I decided to dress for this post in way that reflected my thoughts on turning another year better. A little black dress, a bright pink denim jacket and fun wedges perfectly reflected my zest! I carried my leopard bag and wore colorful tassel earrings to complete this look.

I always love fun tassel earrings to complete my summer look!

Summer wedges go with everything!

Don't forget your clutch. Linking mine and others that are crazy fabulous!

Peace!
