Closing Day!

What to wear

to a house closing

the scoop

A couple of things here goin' on. Maybe three . . . It's closing day on the house in the city and I am so excited. But I'm almost as excited about these jeans. I mean they are hands down my favorite pair for summer. So boho, so comfy, so me! But wait there's more! This top with these jeans is crazy my loves! CRAZY!

But back to the house. I am headed down with a big truck load of stuff, doing the final walk through and picking up the keys. I will spend the night in a sleeping bag. Ugh. Because bright and early in the morning some of my furniture is being delivered. So a fun little camp-out for me!  Think giant pizza on the floor, TV hooked up to rabbit ears. Ha ha! But it's the beginning of fun projects of putting together our place. My husband will follow along shortly after. He is the president of the Idaho Aviation Association, McCall Chapter and the annual fly-in is tomorrow and he has to be there for that. Then he and the fur babies will be on their way to help because its all hands on deck this weekend.

just a bit of

Boho

my look

These jeans went out of stock in most sizes when I first wrote this post, then they were restocked but I am sure they will sell out again really fast. I snatched up a second pair as soon as I saw them available.  This top is so boho! You can wear it like a peasant blouse or off the shoulders. I mean how fun it that? My shoes are old but perfect low heeled sandals in orange and tan. The fun little bag was a thrift find and I love it! My layered necklace is old too. It's hard to see but it had a pineapple and star and other beach type things.

Linking more fun tops and sandals.

Got Kimono?

kim 4.JPG

Kimono and Jeans

Sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G

the scoop

I don't know what I want to talk about first, the kimono or the jeans. I talked about my latest kimono additions here. The green tropical maxi kimono is totally a favorite but this is the other one I got from Amazon and the colors just sing! They are my colors! If I had a flag it would be in oranges!

But wait, the jeans. Holy Moly, they are goodins'! Yes they have become my favorite jeans for summer 2018. They look like they are from 1979 which is a big part of why I love them. Now it's obvious I was alive and wearing similar jeans in 1979 but there is a big difference. Back then there was no stretch in the jeans so not quite as comfortable but these have a little bit of stretch. Not enough to make them stretch out but enough that they fit in all the right places. Hello lover! Ha ha. Nope, not drinking wine, just iced coffee.

sup?

In my effort to make sure I spelled that right I learned this . . .

Urban Dictionary: sup
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=sup
  1.
A term that cool people use because they are too damn lazy to say What's up. (Too much effort involved there man.)

Now I beg to differ because I just spent a great deal of time, looking it up and putting it in this post which ended up even more difficult because I wanted it in the quote format.  Just saying.

my look

Along with my kimono and favorite jeans of the summer I wore a white lined cami and white low heeled mules. I carried a little wicker bag and for jewelry I wore orange tassel earrings and a layered necklace. God only knows what was going on with my hair though.

Exact kimono, exact jeans (they sold out once, restocked but will sell out fast again), exact cami, similar shoes and fun bag!

Summer Chic

all black 1.JPG

the scoop

I love summer fashion but I think options are limited when it comes to variety. Other seasons give you more of an opportunity to layer which provides endless options and creativity. But I must admit putting together an outfit for an evening out is a lot of fun when you don't have to think about keeping warm. And I think a monochromatic look is so chic for summer. All black or all white just always works.

Linking exact jeans, shoes and top (limited sizes and colors) and a couple of similar tops and fun bags for summer.

all black 11.JPG

my look

This top covers a lot but yet it doesn't. The sleeves are sheer so not at all too warm for evenings and baring the shoulders is also a comfortable way to keep cool. This top is great because it is nicely secured around the neck. You don't even think about it falling or being too revealing. I decided to wear it with cropped black denim for a chic look. I had packed most of my belts to move to our other house so had to use this silver metal belt which I ended up actually liking. Nothing makes black pop more than tan shoes and bags so there you have it. A complete look. I added colorful earrings for fun. It wasn't planned but red toes and white nails added even more interest to this look.

Candy Land

pink 1.JPG

Color me Candy!

the scoop

I never want to take this cami and these pumps off! They zero in on the part of my brain that says HAPPY! The colors of these pieces make me think of all the wonderful candies of my childhood. I remember getting a dollar and walking or riding my bike the two miles to the Ben Franklin's store in town and spending it all on candy and then eating it all the way home. Simple joys of childhood never leave me! I remember the candy isle of that store and all the options and decisions. So fun!

Linking up my cami. It comes in lots of colors and they restock often so if you can't find the color you want check back. I am wearing boyfriend jeans and linked up similar ones as well as fun shoe and bag options for creating your own look!

pink 10.JPG

Delicious

is how I describe these colors!

my look

This cami is a new staple in my closet. I have it in black, white, mustard, cream and this pink. I have one in black and one in cream that have a fun little panel in the front too. It is lined and fits perfectly and can be worn with everything. I will use them all year long because they are great for layering as temperatures dip.

I wore my cami with ripped jeans that I got a couple of years ago and a old duster along with pumps purchased earlier this spring. See posts with these shoes here and here. I wore my Tuckernuck earrings and carried my thrifted bag to complete this look.

How I Created A Shorts Suit

black shorts 5.JPG

Suit Up

for summer!

the scoop

I've been inspired this spring by bloggers wearing shorts suits. I have wanted one but not really seen the right thing. But then I found these cute shorts and thought if I wore my white blazer I would have the look of a suit. And yep I was right! I could switch it out with my black blazer for another look! Now I'm excited because I have similar shorts in red and white that I want to style this way.

the end of style wise link up

I have reported here on the blog that I have cut back on social media platforms and am finding ways to unplug and be in the now. With summer arriving and lots of company visiting this season (starting this weekend) as well as house hunting for a place in this city ( put in an offer today on one, fingers crossed) I am ready to let go of more of the work part of blogging and just focus on the fun part. As much as I love the community of  the Style Wise Link Up it is time for it to end. Thanks to everyone who has participated and supported the link up, I hope you will continue to stop by when you have time.

I'm linking options for creating your own look! My shorts are sold out and everything else is old.

my look

These shorts are from H&M. I rarely shop there (the closest one is 100 miles away) but I saw these shorts and thought they would be so fun for summer. I paired them with a white blazer that was in my closet and created a summer suit. I wore tan mules, a black ruffled cami and carried my leopard clutch. I wore an old silver necklace and big hoop earrings to complete this look. Next time I will wear a white cami and a black blazer to mix it up!

Most of the linked blazers come in black and white.

Something New In Denim

denim 1.JPG

Demin

Jumpsuit Style

the scoop

When I saw this jumpsuit I thought it was different and fun in so many ways. I've never had a jumpsuit and have been wanting one for a few years so this was going to fill the bill. I have to say the comfort level was 100%! It was just like having PJs on. Also, I liked that it was a new form of denim for me. I was certainly stepping out of my comfort zone with this look and I'm happy I did.

I got this jumpsuit and Marshalls about two weeks ago but when I was in the store last weekend I saw they still had them. So if you are near one, I would check there.

denim 20.JPG

my look

The fun thing about a jumpsuit is that they are easy. Not a lot to think about, you just put them on and go. I wore a fun pair of red mules with mine. They were easy to kick off when I wanted to relax but added a little pizzazz to the look. I wore a really old necklace that goes with everything. It was a one of a kind made in a small jewelry shop where I lived a long time ago. A navy fringed clutch completed my look.

They Call Me Mellow Yellow

festive 7.JPG

when you know a hero

This is a last minute add in. I don't talk much about my immediate family, I respect their privacy and my blog is about frivolous things and not personal things. But I have to share this story. Today my youngest son called me and told me about something that had just happened.

He was driving on the highway in Kansas City where he lives and an older woman had made a move that angered a younger man. The man began trying to run her off the road and finally got in front of her and stopped her. My son pulled in behind her and watched as the man got out of his truck with a small knife. My son grabbed his big wooden umbrella and got out of his car and told the guy to get away. My son is big and strong and the guy stopped immediately and turned to run away but first stabbed the lady's tire. He got in his truck and did a u turn and took off. My son got in his car and followed him and got his license plate number and a picture of the car. Then he went back to the lady who was with her 12-year-old granddaughter and called the police. They came and he gave them all the information he had attained and made sure the lady and her grand daughter were okay before calling me.

I was so proud of my son and so scared for him. My heart was in my throat as I listened to his story. He was very brave and did the right thing. Too many people would have not stopped to help and he did. He is not stupid, he said he looked at the situation carefully and knew he could take the guy down in a heartbeat. He was furious that someone would try to hurt an older lady and a child. He said he could not stand by and let it happen. I am so proud of my son. He is my hero. He was a hero for someone he didn't even know. She was so grateful and shaken. He said she could barely write his name down. I feel so bad for her but happy that someone was there to help her. No one else will ever know this story but that is what being a hero is, helping others in trouble without thought to yourself. And I know a hero.

the scoop

Yellow has cast it's spell on me this spring. I have never been a fan of yellow. When I was a small child I got lots of ear infections and the medicine I was given was yellow. I still remember the taste and the trauma of being held down while warm ear drops where put in my ears. It was very upsetting to me and I never forgot it and every time I saw yellow the memories came back. And even now I recall those times but I am pretty much over blaming the color yellow. Ha ha!

Linking my top (limited sizing), and several other fabulous tops in yellows.

my look

This top is sort of a light mustard color and the minute I saw it, I liked it. The fact that it had the cold shoulder design and was in a sort of linen fabric made it even more appealing. I wore it with my DIY cut off shorts and my fabulous striped Seychelles mules that I got last year. The shorts are button fly Lucky Brand and very comfy. I plan to cut off a few more jeans this summer. I usually go to the thrift shops for jeans to cut off which is where I got these.

The Count Down And Other Bits

Five days

until the calendar marks another year to my life.

the scoop

I have heard people say all my life that they are too old to do something anymore. I say I am too old not to do things. If not now, when? That is way more logical. Every time I hear that voice in my head say, you're getting too old for that I take the time to correct it. I'm not too old to do anything and I'm not wasting time debating it. It ain't over for me until I'm in the ground. Ha ha!

So this week the count down has begun to my birthday and each day I plan to do something that some would say I'm too old to do. Today I did my trail run and enjoyed it completely. After my run I made a bowl of steel cut oats with mixed berries and honey and almond milk to break my fast. If you don't know what I'm talking about read here.

outdoor living

The above picture on the left is right outside my front door. The picture on the right is my back deck. It's finally turned summer here and I am loving being outside as much as possible. To smell the pine of the trees and feel the sun on my back is like heaven to me. We sold our old wooden deck furniture this year and bought a comfy seating arrangement and I am loving it. I sit outside and read and watch the wild life and cuddle with my dogs and in the evenings my husband and I play cards and eat dinner outside.

Find what you love to do

and do it!

my look

This is my motivation outfit. If I don't feel like working out I just put on workout clothes and find I am excited to work out. It's just another area where when you look good, you feel good. Oh it's true we all have low days but the trick is to keep up the fight.

I'm wearing capri leggings, a sports tank and running shoes. I have my sunglasses and my running app with music ready to go. What could stop me now?

I almost always get my active wear on sale and here are some great items for great prices!

pictures above

Each spring I ready our front entry for summer. I have a couple of benches with pillows and a couple of planters that I fill with flowers. I was lazy this year and just planted Marigolds. They are supposed to repel bugs and I love the pretty yellows and oranges. Keeping things simple gives me more time to do the things I love.

picture below

I take a lot of pictures in this part of my house because I can usually get enough light for them. It's basically my media room and office area. My laundry room is behind that door and it seems I always have laundry going so it is nice to have it close to my office. I rarely sit still for long so my environment is very functional. I am right next to my kitchen here too. This is nice because I love to cook and almost always have something prepping.

My 2nd Most Worn Pants

More Of The Pixi Pants

This time in a leopard print!

the scoop

I can't seem to get enough of my Pixi pants! I wear them the most next to my jeans. They are so chic and comfortable and versatile! Just right for all seasons but especially spring and summer. On Wednesday I showed you my mustard colored pair and now I am styling my leopard ones. I will wear these with a cute black front tie tee and white tees this summer. I wear heels, flats and sneakers with them too.

my look

I got these pants last fall and decided to make them work for spring too. Read how I styled a mustard pair here. I added this amazing peplum tunic that was all the rage last summer. It is such a pretty top that I have it in five colors! It is easy on the pocket book too. I found it for you on sale and will link up below. There are several colors available. These pants are also available in multiple colors for spring. I carried my black bag and tied a scarf to it for a little more pizzazz! Platform sandals and big hoop earrings completed this look!

Here are several options for such fun looks! I love them all! Obsessed with these pants!

Story Of The Traveling Pixi Pants

Pixi Pants for summer

My second most worn pants other than jeans!

the scoop

Last fall I saw these adorable Pixi pants at Old Navy and thought a pair in mustard and a pair in leopard would be perfect for early fall looks. And I was right I was able to put together pretty outfits with them (see leopard here).

Fast forward to spring and I am seeing these pants again only in fun spring colors. But I thought with the right top and shoes I could make these colors work for spring too. No need to buy more although I am tempted because these pants are so comfy.

my look

For this look I pulled out this fun top from my closet that I hadn't had a chance to wear yet. The pattern and style was perfect for these pants. Next I added my platform sandals and a brilliant blue bag and I was almost ready. The last touch were my royal blue tassel earrings. Fun, fun look that will be on repeat this summer.

Summer colors

in vibrant yellows and blues

Dressing For Date Night

Date Night Look

For The Mountains

The Scoop

The sun is shinning in the mountains! Yay! To celebrate we went out to dinner. I wore what I call mountain casual style. Even though the sun is shinning for a few days the evenings are quite chilly. This called for my favorite leather jacket to keep me comfortable and stylish.

my look

I am wearing my 7 For All Mankind skinny jeans, Dolce Vita booties, a tunic length black tee  with a sharks high low hem and my leather jacket in the color oxblood. I carried my Clare V. clutch. This bag has been used more than almost any other bag for going out. It's not an everyday bag but it goes with everything it seems.

The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow

IMG_7195 (2).JPG

All I Wanna Do Is Have Some Fun

Until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard

Remember that Sheryl Crow song. It's been running through my mind the last few weeks because we have not had much sun. It came out for two minutes for this shoot and I had my cool shades ready to go!

Little by little though the snow is melting and I can at least get out in my boots for some outdoor photos.  When all the snow does finally melt it looks like a disaster zone from the harsh winter weather. It takes half the summer to get things back in order. And then it all starts over again.

I'm not complaining though. The beauty of this forest is like none I have ever experienced. It's not just the landscape, its the wild life, the scents in the air and the twinkle in the stars. I have never seen a stars shine brighter anywhere in my life. And they seem so close, I feel like I can reach out and touch them. It's also the quietness. Silence. Something my heart craves. I love to listen to silence. Have you ever heard silence?

Today, I put on my old Levi's, Hunter boots, over-sized tee and white distressed denim jacket and headed outside for a few pictures. I was actually warm, in the low 40s. But the lighting wasn't the best so I did what I could. I thought my white tassel earrings and white framed sunglasses were fun details for this look.

I'm linking exact jacket, tee and boots. My jeans are Levi's and almost exactly like the pair I linked up. And I also linked up similar sunglasses that are too fun!

IMG_7192 (2).JPG

I was able to clean off our front entry. We had wood stacked on the sides over the winter which left a mess and it was so nice to sweep it off. Next I will add pretty cushions since we sit out here a lot throughout the spring, summer and fall.

The snow melts first in circular forms around the trees. It's a scientific thing where the sun heats the snow and the roots absorb the heat and so you get large rings of bare earth around the trees even while there is a foot of snow everywhere else. Our driveway is clear due to the snow plow we have come all winter and the side walk is clear because we use a snow blower to keep it passable.

My Next Challenge In Fitness Adventures

Whoa! I've hit a plateau!

What's up with that?

It's true! In all my years I have had a pretty good grip on my fitness routines. I limit my yoyoing to about 3 or 4 pounds and when I am up a few I immediately make the changes in my lifestyle to drop them. It's always been to take in fewer calories than I burn. It works and its fast and basically easy. Two weeks and done!

But this spring I haven't had the will power for lack of a better word to do what I know works for me. For the first time in my life, I almost don't care. But it just hit me recently. If I don't care about myself who will?

So I am taking the reins for this ride and making changes. I have always been active. Always exercising most days added to not sitting much during the day. I think that has been part of my problem this winter. Sitting too much during the day.

So what will I do?

Go back to the tried and true. Consume less fuel and use more energy.

I've already started the process. I plan an activity for each day that uses my energy. Something that makes me move and keeps me engaged. I started with my closet. A full day of physical work moving the winter/fall things up and bringing my spring/summer things front and center. Next day was my office. I rearranged the furniture, cleaned and organized and boom another day of major activity. I have a list a mile long, especially as the weather warms up and I have the great outdoors to conquer. I also do my regular three-mile runs every other day. And I added a new weight training program for the days I don't run.

What about food? I have been showing you the healthy meals I have been making on my IG stories, and weekend blog posts like here and here. I'm pushing hard to eat lots of veggies, nuts, legumes, lean meats and fish. But I still want cake so I am human.

Do I fall off the wagon? You bet! But only for a moment. Every hour of the day is a new chance to do what I need to do for my body. The only body I will ever have. My hope is to keep it fit enough to enjoy this beautiful life I have been given.

So what's my new challenge? I am starting a seven-week boot camp this week that will be a major challenge. I did this boot camp a little over a year ago and it was intense. But I learned so many important lessons and I want a refresher. Things in health and fitness change all the time and I like to be on top of it. So stay tuned! I'll be sharing more on my journey through a collaboration with fellow bloggers as they also embark on their own new challenges in fitness adventures. Hint, Ball Room Dancing Anyone?

Thanks for stopping by!

Columns For Spring Fashion

I am a column. . .

They say you are what you think. Or is that you are what you eat?

Oh well which ever, today's look is all about column dressing where I wear all one colored top and bottom and then add a third piece in a different color. This is one of my favorite ways to dress because it always looks nice and it takes very little thought. I plan to style a white column and maybe a colored column here over the next few weeks just to play around with it. I just got the cutest white denim jacket that I can't wait to style and I think it will be cute on a colored column.

For this look I am wearing 7 For All Mankind jeans with my DIY hem. I love this brand so much that I ordered a pair of black cropped raw hem for summer. I'm wearing a pretty sleeveless top that has a sheer overlay. I wish I had taken a closer picture of it although it is old it is a favorite. My third piece was a waffle knit cardigan in orange by Free People. Then I added my orange Tuckernuck earrings and tan wedge shoes. A neutral belt and tote completed this look.

Its still gloomy here

But I keep acting like it's full on spring. What else are you gonna do?

I am staying really busy with work and home projects and I even got away for a day at the spa with my girl friends. I am sure I am going wake up soon to the sun shinning bright!

I am linking some of the same and other similar items in case you want to create your own look.

Peace!

Maxi Season

It's Maxi Season

Spring and summer are the times of year when I wear a maxi dress the most.

I was going through pictures and brutally deleting those that were awful. When I ran across these I knew I wanted to use them even though the lighting is not the best. Because this dress is crazy cute and comfortable.

It's made of the nicest quality knit, hangs perfectly and the colors are very vibrant and rich. It has slits on both sides up to the knee and is shorter so I can wear flat sandals with it making it perfect for hanging out in the summer.

You won't beleve where I got it

I got it last summer at Costco. That's right, they have cute clothes there too! And I went yesterday to see if they had them again and they do. I picked up another one in a beautiful Merlot color. Score!

I always try to dress for dinner, even when we eat at home. I make nice meals and love to celebrate the day in style. This dress has been perfect for dinners here in Arizona.

If you can't get to a Costco, here are some similar dresses, flip flops and bags for creating your own look! My flip flops are leather and I love to have a few in black and nude for casual outfits.

As always gang, thanks for stopping by!

Peace!

note

My like to know it feed on the boutique page was broken and I didn't know it. Yikes! Anyway it is fixed now. Sorry for any inconvenience! Please stop by and check out my updates in the boutique here.
