Free People Thermal Top

MY OUTFIT

I am always looking for comfort wrapped in style and I found it with this thermal top by Free People. It is soft and roomy and has so many cute details. It is the perfect top to wear with leggings and boots that just hit the knee as I did in this outfit. This is the only thermal top I have right now but I am on the look for more because this is a top that can be worn in most of the seasons. For winter I will add a warm scarf and in the spring cropped jeans. A couple of rings, large hoop earrings and a tote and this outfit was complete.

One Trip Down

I just got back from my trip to Kansas City to visit family for about a week and now I am getting ready to go to Arizona for a month. I get homesick after a few weeks so we will be going back and forth this winter. Four weeks there, a few back here and then back to AZ again until spring. The countdown is on as we prepare for warmer sunny weather.

Red Leather Jacket For Fall Fashion

MY OUTFIT

I put this outfit together a while back for a link up I was doing. I wanted to share it in more detail. The jacket is such a favorite of mine. I got it several years ago in a consignment store. It is 100% leather and very high quality. I always love it when I find such a treasure. I wear it every year as the holidays get closer and the style options are never ending.

This time I wore black jeans and a colorful top with bell sleeves, my OTK boots and I carried a little black clutch. It was such a festive look and comfortable too.  The jacket is timeless and I am sure I will be styling it for many years to come.

TRAVEL UPDATE

I'm still traveling from one place to another but have my laptop and am being able to stay on top of blog things. I should be in one place soon and back to my normal routine. Happy Halloween BTW!

Pre-Holiday Style With A Red Silk Shirt

MY OUTFIT

I am having a hard time believing how close the holidays are. We hold our annual Christmas Party on December 16th and have already started Christmas shopping. We don't do much, I am not a big believer in the commercialization of Christmas but I like to get my grand kids and parents a gift. My husband and I pretty much host one Christmas party for friends and then ignore the rest of the chaos.  We spend Thanksgiving with family and then on Christmas you will find us hiking in Arizona.

I still like to celebrate the season with a few festive outfits. This red silk top is old but perfect for this time of year. I wore it with black jeans, leopard belt and nude heels. A big tote for toting and I am good to go!

Neutral Outfit For Fall Style

MY OUTFIT

On the day (week really) of this post we were having beautiful weather. Just splash of snow was left on the ground here and there but is was 60 degrees and sunny. My favorite weather! I decided to wear a neutral outfit for the day. I wore a pair of white flared jeans, with fun wedge booties, an over sized-sweater, a tan belt and an beautiful green bag. Me and my crew ( McCall and Stella) decided to go outside to take pictures since the lighting wasn't too bad.

What's Up

A very old Facebook account of mine that I thought was deleted but somehow Facebook kept, was hacked into last night. I had to search ways to completely delete it and did so. Facebook is criminal if you ask me. Invasive, evasive and I don't like it. I only have it because it helps some people get to my blog. Not sure I will keep it much longer though. Ugh.

By the time you are reading this I will be in the midwest spending the Halloween season with my grandson. This year he wants me and his parents to be robbers because he wants to be a cop. We have really fun costumes figured out. Then soon after my stay there we are off to Arizona for huge chunks of the winter. My grand daughter lives there! It's going to be a great winter!

A Fall Outfit For Date Night

MY OUTFIT

I wanted to put together a comfortable but semi dressy outfit for a night out and came up with this. The top has the most fun sleeves that are bell shaped, split with a tie. I also love the white with black stripes making it a top that can be worn so many ways. I added a pair of soft stretchy leggings and fun booties and a long cardigan. I didn't want to cover the sleeves with the cardigan so I pulled up the cardigan sleeves so the blouse sleeves peeked out. For jewelry I wore a long necklace and earrings. Of course I added my leopard clutch and that was that. I was ready to go out!

P.S. That is the care tag on the inside seam of my cardigan. I tried to cut it out but you can still see some of it. I had a person once think it was the price tag, although I have never seen a price tag on the inside seam of a garment.

Shoe Style & Still, A Beret

MY OUTFIT

So I got these shoes. I loved how they looked online and when other bloggers wore similar ones but somehow when I put them on I wasn't feeling it. I let them sit in the box for a day and tried again. And this time I was feeling it. I had to find the right kind of jean style for me for these shoes. And you know what? Once I found them I wish I had ordered a back up pair for when these wear out cause I'm thinking I'm going to be wearing them a lot!

My husband thought the wear fancy slippers! Ha Ha! I can see his confusion and in a way I hate to wear them outside of the house but I have a trip coming up and these will be my travel shoes. They are the most comfy and cute flats I own. I wore them with very old Levi's, a cami, a big comfy sweater and of course the one thing you may get sick of seeing, my beret!

TMI

These pictures are dark and as you know I am not a photographer but I do the best I can with my camera and tripod. It had been snowing for two days and I had no light so thus the dark photos. Today, as you read this post it will be sunny and in the 50s so almost like summer for us! Ha Ha. Soon I will be traveling to visit family in Kansas and I can't wait! Big plans!

A Girl & A Beret

First I saw a beret on @emillyanngemma and then on @simplysylviadc and now I may never take mine off! I don't look great in hats and I have a small head so they are usually too big. I bought this one and one in a cream color and the flood gates are open. I was able to get them in xsmall and by golly they fit! These are now my favorite hats!

I wore my hat with flared jeans and a old top, well everything I have on is old but the beret. I was totally having a few Mary Tyler Moore moments taking these photos. My next try is a cap I have been seeing. A page boy cap or similar style, so stay tuned!

NEWSFLASH

My internet was down all day Wednesday and most of the day Thursday. I barely got this post up. So I missed a couple of days of link ups and lots of commenting. I'll try to catch up!

My husband is drying a piece of plastic in the drive. Lovely background eh?

How I Wear Corduroy Pants

MY OUTFIT

A few years ago I got on a corduroy pants kick. I ended up getting them in several colors but seemed to always be saving them for a special occasion so rarely wore them.  I decided to style them for this post. This pair is a gorgeous deep chocolate brown color. I love the fit and they are extremely comfortable. I added a leopard top, a long tan cardigan and a pair of fun clogs. I carried one of my Dooney and Bourke bags from a few years ago and wore a piece of Amber jewelry. It all came together nicely.

I have these pants in three other beautiful colors; charcoal, olive and a wine color. I am making it a point to get them out and wear them, they are just so pretty. These pants are so popular that even though I got mine three years ago, you can still buy the exact pants today. Even the colors are the same. I guess classics never go out of style.

How I Style Pom Poms, Leather, Lace & Fringe

MY OUTFIT

The day I took these pictures I woke up to snow on the ground and it was still coming down. It looked like a full blown winter storm. Since it is about a month or more early for this kind of weather I wasn't that excited. To cheer myself up I decided to find something fun to wear.

In my last post I showed you I had ordered a pair of faux leather leggings, fun booties with pom poms and a beautiful cardigan with fringe. All 40% or more off. I wasn't sure about the sizing of my leggings but when I tried it all on I loved it. The leggings have a motto design on them giving them an edgy look. The booties are not high quality, thus the low price but for a trendy item I would rather not spend that much money. They are as cute as can be, comfortable and add so much fun to leggings. The cardigan was a total win purchase. It is quality, on sale and oh so cozy and pretty! Score! I wore a lace camisole that I have had for a few years, a hat and headed out into our first real snow of the year.

SNOW IN THE MOUNTIANS

We've had this home in the mountains since 2003. We used it for a vacation home until a few years ago when after the kids all left home we decided we preferred county life in fresh mountain air. So here we are. We sold our house in the valley last spring and make this home except for a couple of months a year when we go to AZ for a winter break.

I don't remember a year that we've had snow this early. We get snow earlier than a lot of the country but not this early. We live close to the base of a ski mountain which is about 3000 feet higher elevation and they get about double what we get. They got about six inches and we got between three and four inches. Luckily it is supposed to melt today and we will get a few days of fall like weather before its expected to snow again this coming weekend. So I am kicking back taking it in stride. Making lots of delicious soups and using my home gym to try to get enough exercise in my days. It's all good.

WINTER EXERCISE ROUTINE

Since winter arrived early and my days of getting out for trail runs are limited, I worked up a new fitness routine for the next few months. I start my days with a 25 minute yoga practice. Then on alternate days I am doing HIIT and easy runs. My HIIT program uses all weight bearing exercises so it fills my strength training goals. I am doing a 20 minute HIIT program now because I injure so easily but will work up to a 30 minute program.

I make sure to eat mostly a vegetarian diet these days, making many delicious soups and cutting out simple carbs like sugar, white breads, sweet desserts.  I do eat an egg for breakfast most days and I use chicken stock in soups. But as for eating a piece of meat, it is down to only a couple of times a week. I take supplements as I've talked about before (here). I also drink a protein drink after HIIT and running. I'll let you know how its all working as I see how I feel in a few weeks. I am always trying new things!

How I Wear Leather Leggings

MY OUTFIT

We are now seeing all the beloved fall clothing spilling out all over Blogsphere. One tried and true garment is leather leggings. For so many years I wouldn't go near leggings let alone leather leggings. I finally took the plunge and bought these multi media leggings, faux leather in the front with a nice fabric back. I was so thrilled with the look and fit that a bought two of the same pair and now in my third season love them more than ever. They are not tight fitting but they are nicely fitted and they look good with everything from pumps to OTK boots and from camisoles and cardigans to be over sized sweaters.

For today's outfit I choose to wear OTK boots and a cozy sweater along with a Shearling vest. Can I just say, OMG? This is my favorite outfit so far this fall. It is comfy, stylish and edgy. Everything I love about an outfit. I carried an old designer bag that added a pop of color and more edge and wore big hoop earrings, a layered necklace and that was it! Ready to hit the road or sit by the fire with a glass of wine!

I like this look so much that I found another pair of faux leather leggings that were on sale. They just arrived and I'm not thinking they are going to work but I will try them on to see and let you know. Just for fun I will show you what I ordered down below for a complete outfit. It all arrived today and I will try it out in the next day or two. I think I will put a cami with this outfit.

How I Wear Body Con

MY OUTFIT

I am seeing body con dresses a lot lately. I love the look but would say I am more body self conscious than conscious at times. I got this dress several years ago and wear it for special occasions with my husband. It is a nice knit fabric and is ruched around the waist.

I am not always ready to wear this dress as is, so I have come up with lots of ways to be completely comfortable when wearing it. I usually take a scarf and wear it different ways for different moods. I may wear it around my shoulders letting it hang down for more full body coverage or I may wrap it around my neck for more chest coverage. It's also fun to wrap the scarf around my waist so it can cover my stomach and hips. See the versatility and fun in this dress?

Other things I think about when purchasing or wearing a body con dress are that I prefer a black dress or a dark solid color. I also like it to have a good weight fabric. I always want to wear shoes that are comfortable so I am not flailing around as I walk. I like my jewelry to accent not steal the show and I prefer a clutch rather than a larger bag. All this seems to compliment my look which is simple and easy.

Last Ride On The Mules

MY OUTFIT

I titled this post last ride on the mules because this will probably be the last post where I can be wearing mules this year. We had snow again today and although it melted right away it looks like we are going to have an early winter.

These mules have been an absolute favorite for me this year. I love the bright color, the big bow, and the chunky heels. They seem to go with about anything I wear. For this outfit I wore one of my Johnny Was tunics. I have Johnny Was tunics in Red, this yellow, white and navy. They are favorite tunics for me as I love the embroidery detail and flowy design.  I wore a pair of skinny Levi's and carried an old Dooney and Bourke bag. I was happy with this end of the summer season outfit.

How I Wear Leopard Pants

MY OUTFIT

Happy Friday Everyone! Another week in the bag. For today's outfit I wanted to share I how wear leopard pants. I was a little worried about how I could pull this off but after I found the right pants and sweater I was confident I would love the results.

I wanted to add a modern twist to this look since the style of the pants and cardigan are rather traditional. The graphic tee is so trendy right now so I added that and then to add more modern zing I added the mustard colored cardigan to the leopard pants. I love it when I get the chance to wear my belt with a tassel. For heels I wore my low heeled suede pumps in a nude color. I felt like they were a nice neutral for this look that didn't need anymore attention. A simple tan tote completed my look. I love it so much I plan to repeat this in other colors. I got the pants in a mustard color and the sweater in a leopard print that I think will look great. So stay tuned!

How I Wear Greenery (Pantone Color Of The Year)

MY OUTFIT

Green is probably my second favorite color after orange. I find it a relaxing color and love all shades of green. However, I don't have a lot of green in my closet for some reason. I never seem to run across clothes that are green in the stores. The one exception is what I call olive green. I have several items in various shades of this color. I think it is almost a neutral and goes well with most other colors.

I was so happy when I learned that the Pantone color of the year is Greenery. This meant I would be seeing more of it on the racks.

Here's a description of Greenery from the Pantone website . . .

"A refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings.
Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.
Greenery is nature’s neutral. The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world. This shift is reflected by the proliferation of all things expressive of Greenery in daily lives through urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design choices globally. A constant on the periphery, Greenery is now being pulled to the forefront - it is an omnipresent hue around the world.
A life-affirming shade, Greenery is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality." (From: https://www.pantone.com/color-of-the-year-2017)

In this outfit I am wearing a cardigan in a shade of greenery that is a few seasons old and gets a lot of use. I am wearing it with a cream camisole, a pair of skinny jeans and a pair of booties that are also a shade of Greenery. I carried a clutch that had the same shades as my camisole. For jewelry I wore one of my oldest and most favorite necklaces. You will see this necklace in more pictures of mine than any other jewelry I own. This was a simple casual everyday outfit that I enjoy often.

How To Use Column Dressing

OUTFIT

A few years ago I learned about a style concept called column dressing. It is where you wear the same color top and pants and then build out from there. I felt it was a brilliant idea and I use it often. My favorite is the black column. In this outfit I have a pair of comfy high wasted black jeans and an asymmetrical long sleeved tee with a V neck. You will see in the following pictures how versatile this base is by switching out jewelry, bags, shoes and by adding a third piece (another style concept that I will talk about in a future post).  I used things like pulling the neckline down to a cold shoulder, big statement necklaces, adding cardigans and wearing different shoes. I could have probably put together 50 different outfits and of course loved every minute of doing it!
