Facing My Truth

MY OUTFIT

Well luvs, its time for me to face the truth. Winter has full on arrived. We had a little snow a week or so ago, but it warmed up and melted and everything was still green. But over the weekend in started snowing and it snowed so fast and hard that it knocked our power out for a few hours. I'm writing this on Saturday, a sunny but cold day (high 33) knowing that tomorrow we are getting more snow. Temperatures are going to remain cold so this snow will be here until spring.

So I'm going with it and pulling out the boots. I have lots of snow boots for here in the mountains, one for each day of the week! ha ha! This is a cute light colored pair so I wore them with white jeans and a fun little jacket. Cozy and fun is how this outfit turned out. I took a few pictures outside but my hands starting getting so cold I was driven inside near the fire.

WHAT TO DO

I love living in the mountains and the snow but only for a bit. So what do I do? Well having lived in Arizona for many years I know how nice the weather is in the winter and so we pack up and head south. I guess we are snowbirds! And that's ok because I can hike mountains, run outside and not freeze my buns off. We will be back here for our annual Christmas party that we host and a few weeks more of winter before we head back south until spring. I am so excited for this winter and plan to enjoy were I am, when I'm there! As for Christmas day, I will be hiking a mountain and maybe toasting the holiday with a little eggnog.

How To Use Column Dressing

OUTFIT

A few years ago I learned about a style concept called column dressing. It is where you wear the same color top and pants and then build out from there. I felt it was a brilliant idea and I use it often. My favorite is the black column. In this outfit I have a pair of comfy high wasted black jeans and an asymmetrical long sleeved tee with a V neck. You will see in the following pictures how versatile this base is by switching out jewelry, bags, shoes and by adding a third piece (another style concept that I will talk about in a future post).  I used things like pulling the neckline down to a cold shoulder, big statement necklaces, adding cardigans and wearing different shoes. I could have probably put together 50 different outfits and of course loved every minute of doing it!

Fall Tones & Cardigan Style

MY OUTFIT

I am thrilled to add fall tones back into my wardrobe. I can almost hear the colors singing. Neutrals and browns look good enough to eat. We are still getting warm days here and there so for this warm day I wore a rich chocolate camisole with a neutral cardigan. I added a pair of skinny jeans and suede nude pumps. My black and brown tote was the perfect accent. For a little surprise element I wore a think leopard belt. This is close to a daily uniform for me for the next couple of seasons only changing out the camisole for long sleeve tops. Cardigans are very popular and it is so fun that they come in all lengths which gives them even more versatility.

SMOKE FILLED skies ARE OVER FOR THIS SEASON

You can see the smoke in the air in the background of this picture. I'm happy to say that at the time of this post, it is raining like crazy and the smoke is gone for the season. I am a little shocked about how quickly it seems we are going from summer to winter as they are focasting snow already. Yikes! It will be short lived as next week is supposed to be back to our normal beautiful fall weather. Here's hoping!

How I Style Over The Knee Boots For Fall Fashion

My OUTFIT

A few of years ago when Over the Knee Boots starting popping up everywhere, I was sure I was too old to wear them. I let society whisper in my ear, no no, you can't wear those, you'll look like you're trying to be younger. But as with so many whispers in my ear, I ignored it and showed my husband a beautiful pair of Louise et Cie OTK boots that I loved and he got them for me for Christmas! I was so excited and the minute I put them on I loved them. The heck with what anyone thought! Over the next couple of years I added two more pairs. They are so versatile and absolutely a fun addition to my wardrobe!

For this outfit I wore the second pair of OTK boots purchased, they are a rich caramel color and they can be scrunched down to below the knee for variation.  Right now I prefer over the knee. I wore them with a pair of pants in a copper color. My top is a fun cold shoulder in a blue that reminds me of stormy nights.  I wore a layered necklace and a choker and carried a tote bag. All I can say is, I love this outfit. The top made it comfortable for the still warm days we were having but I got to style the boots so it is a perfect transitional outfit.

THERE'S SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS

As I write this post I am enjoying a day in the mid 60s and sunny with a little wind. But the wind is blowing in an early winter storm. For the next week, it is only going to be in the mid 40s and Tuesday through Thursday the forecast predicts snow! It's crazy and way too early for snow. A first in my experience.  I think the next week it is supposed to warm up to the 50s and 60s so hopefully our fall isn't over. Meanwhile my husband has been stacking wood for all our fire places. Stay tuned for weather updates! Ha Ha!

Soft Surroundings Review

THE OUTFIT

This outfit c/o Soft Surroundings is part of their "Timeless and Traditional" fall collection. I am always looking for stylish looks and this outfit provided me the ultimate fall transition look!

I'll start with this Serengeti Necklace here. It has three hand-carved plates of naturally shed water buffalo horn with all of their natural color variations of caramel, black and cloudy white. They are strung on a supple, suede cord and have glimmering golden and jade insets on each piece of horn, further enhancing the exotic look. I have worn this necklace with so many things already. There is no end to the possibilities for using this necklace to elevate a look.

This Berkley Top here comes in several beautiful colors. I choose the color Brick desiring a real fall vibe. It has lovely bell sleeves and gently drapes the body. It is chic and comfortable.

My 5 Pocket Pull On Leggings here are so comfortable and come in several colors also. I thought the white would contrast nicely with the top and was right. I love the look. I wish I had these pants in every color!

These Vince Camuto, Calley booties here are going to be on repeat this fall as they go with anything and everything! The detail and comfort are amazing.  I was most excited by the neutral color that is so fashionable this season.

Note: I sized down in the pants and wish I has sized up in the top. The booties were true to size. The necklace is adjustable for many lengths depending on your outfit and preference.

THE OUTFIT

This necklace c/o Soft Surroundings was the base for building today's outfit. It is part of their "Timeless and Traditional" fall collection and called the Serengeti Necklace, see here. It has three hand-carved plates of naturally shed water buffalo horn - with all of their natural color variations of caramel, black and cloudy white. They are strung on a supple, suede cord with glimmering golden and jade insets on each piece of horn, further enhancing its exotic look. I have worn this necklace with so many things already. There is no end to the possibilities for using this beautiful necklace to elevate a look. I'll have more to show you from Soft Surroundings on Wednesday so stay tuned!

To go with this necklace I chose a bold blue top with bell sleeves and full style. I wore my 12 year old flared jeans and a pair of neutral mules. I thought my leopard clutch would be the perfect accessory.

Softer Side of Both Sexes

THE OUTFIT

While I was out hiking this morning I was thinking about how many people say they love to wear gray and pink together. I wondered why I heard that more than about any other color combination. It just struck that maybe it is because these colors represent the softest side of both the female and male. I think of pinks as the most feminine color and I think of gray as the gentler side of men. Crazy maybe, I don't know.

For this outfit I wore a pair of what I call vintage jeans. I have owned them for around 12 years and will never give them up. I wore a pastel pink camisole and this gray sweater with big bell sleeves. I wore some silver sandals and carried a leopard bag. The bag is several years old and a favorite that will never go out of style either. For jewelry I wore my giant hoop earrings and a layered necklace. When I was all put together I could see this outfit would be on repeat for fall.

TEXAS

I have been watching the tragedy in Texas non stop and it is so heart breaking. This flooding reminds me of the time my home flooded in Missouri. Back in the early 90s we had a 100 year flood. We had no warning. Our house was next to a river. Before we knew it water was coming in our doors. We saw our car washed away and huge rail road ties raced by in the water along with everyone's barbecue grills and lawn furniture. We didn't know what to do because the water was up to our knees and the current was so fast we were afraid to try to wade out. Our refrigerator was shorting out and we were afraid of electricution. All our pictures, my sons saxaphone and furniture was being covered in water. We grabbed our cat and went out on the front porch. The city came by in a big front loader or something like that but I guess they didn't realize we were trapped because they just drove by. We (my husband and two sons and cat finally linked arms and started wading through the water and got to higher ground.

After the water subsided a couple of days later, we went home. Inches of slimy mud covered everything. Water damage was devastating. It was a little overwhelming and to make it worse the media showed up taking pictures. That upset me, they weren't there to help they were there to take video of our heartbreak. It made me sick. Anyway, we got through it all and it is a distant memory. My car was found and totaled and our house was repaired and we soon sold it and moved to higher ground.

That chapter of our life was closed. But today, I feel deeply for those going through this. All of us looking in the window at them isn't that helpful sometimes. No one wants to see their pain splashed all over for the world to see.

Style In The Mountains

THE OUTFIT

We are having one of the hottest weeks we've had all summer this week. This means our days of warm weather are almost over. You know the one last kick of the bucket thing. So I  pulled another tried and true cold shoulder top out of the closet and styled it. I wore skinny jeans, and sandals and carried my Ark bag. For jewelry I wore a new choker necklace that I bought at a local Art Fair last weekend. Jewelry styles are experiencing a little change and I am loving it. Chokers and layered delicate necklaces are so pretty and easy to wear.

LOCAL HAPPENINGS

We went to our local farmers market last Saturday and it was going strong with lots of local farms selling their crops. One sign caught my attention. It was the Hobbit Hill Farm and they had Himalayan Yak meant for sale stating it was mountain grown and grass alone. I've never had Yak meat before, have you? I'm not sure I've ever even see a Yak.

After the farmers market we went to a local art fair and I found the beautiful choker that I am wearing in this post. It can also  be wrapped and worn as a bracelet. I have been wanting a choker and finding a one of kind made locally was perfect. I like jewelry that holds a memory and this one will remind of the lovely day we had. We finished our morning by going to a little cafe that is at the back of the gas station. Yes, you heard me right, in the gas station. They have really good biscuits and gravy and are off the beaten path.

Red Floral Bells & Social Media Warning

THE OUTFIT

I'm still rotating fun clothing items from spring and summer. I am going to hate putting away some of my tops for the winter. But at least I know they will be there next spring. The top has a lot of fun detail with crocheted strips and bell sleeves. What really attracted me was the tiny red flowers. They seemed so feminine and old fashioned.  I wore white cropped jeans, tan mules with the rope heel detail and carried one of my favorite Tory Burch bags. Another comfortable and pretty outfit put together.

WARNING

This past week I learned a few things that I wanted to share. I am not an expert but I will tell you what I know. An Instafriend of mine who had over 10,000 followers and a lovely gallery was hacked a couple of weeks ago. Her account was taken over and they were trying to get money from her. She and many others tried to contact Facebook who owns Instagram and they shut her account down and refused to even speak to her in any form. She was left with no alternative but to start over with a new account.

This is why I could care less about Instagram, it is not mine, Facebook is in control and they could care less about any individual. I use Instagram as a driver to my blog which is my true passion/hobby. With that being said, I have put a lot of work in the my Instagram account and don't want to have it hacked. Here is what I have been told to do to protect it.

1. Make sure to have Two-Factor Authentication set up. You can find it it your settings.

2. Create a second account where you post everything so if you lose one account you will still have all your pictures. This one seems like a lot of work but I thought I would do it anyway. I don't promote it or work at it in anyway other than add the same photo as my main account. It just takes a minute. Plus it is a fun little experiment to see how things go with no effort. So far nothing but trolls are visiting it.

3.  Google has a security system that you can implement also. Go to your account and click on Sign-in and security and then on 2-step verification and follow instructions.

4. I am sure there are other systems for other social media and as I learn more I will share.

Straight Skirt Style

THE OUTFIT

I was getting a little excited about fall fashion and went into my winter closet to walk down memory lane from last year. Way back in the back I saw this skirt and it still had the tag on it. I remember buying it and one in black several years ago thinking a straight skirt never goes out of style and it would be a good closet staple. The wheels started turning and I put together this outfit. The skirt is a dark grey and I love pink with grey so I wore a light pink camisole. These blush cage sandals seemed perfect and on my clutch shelf I saw this colorful clutch that I thought would add a pop of color to the look. For jewelry I layered a couple of necklaces which is my favorite jewelry hack right now, my signature hoop earrings was all I needed. This outfit turned out so cute and was fun to create! I think come fall I can wear the black skirt with an over-sized sweater and over-the-knee boots for a fun look.

This Weeks Happenings

This Friday I have a hair appointment and I am a little torn. Some days I like this length of my hair and some days I want it a few inches shorter like I had in the Spring. I'll probably have her take a couple of inches off. I am not going to have her do anything much to the color. For winter I want it to be my natural dark blond color as well as continue to let my grey come in more. So maybe just a tiny bit of highlighting will happen.

Today is the Eclipse and we plan to watch it from the comfort of our back yard. We are supposed to have about 10 seconds of total eclipse so it will be fast and fun. The last chance in my life time to witness it. Some parts of the state will be overrun with visitors because some areas will get almost two and a half minutes of total eclipse. I hear there may be some odd things going on, my dentist had heard of things like sacrificing animals and weird rituals being expected. Strange world we live in. I will be keeping my fur babies as close as ever. But then they are almost always sitting next to me or on me anyway so nothing new there.

Tassel and Tuck

THE OUTFIT

I have been putting tops and things I got early in the spring on major rotation for different looks. Summer is almost over here and I want to enjoy all the fun summer clothes in my closet. I wore this top in early spring here. I was wearing skinny jeans and for this post I am wearing the top with my beloved flares. I added my belt with a tassel, tan mules with the rope heels and carried my Ark bag. I layered some delicate necklaces and wore my signature silver hoop earrings for jewelry. I could wear this outfit everyday, I love it so much.
