Signing Off For The Year

Casual

day in the mountains

the scoop

This is my last post for the year! I am taking the rest of December to celebrate the holidays with my family and friends. I also have to get us packed and ready to head to Arizona for a few months. I have so much to do and am really excited. I’ve learned to prioritize this blog and put it away when I have more important things to do. So for now I’ll sign off and see you next year!

note

I may be posting outfit ideas on Like.to.Know.it here if I pull something really fun together that I think you might like. So check back here or get the app if you want to follow along. You can learn more about the app here. Once you sign up you can follow along on your desk top too. You don’t have to take screen shots to see new looks, that is the old technology. Now you just get the app or sign up, log in and find your favorite influences to follow and you are good to go. No need to like, comment or anything like that. I really find this is my favorite way to follow influencers.

ugg 8JPG.JPG

my look

The is one of my favorite outfits for when I am having a quiet day at home. I love to be comfy and warm while the snow is flying outside. I got these lounge pants and thermal tee at Walmart and love them so much I got them in several colors. I got my lace bralette and Ugg slippers at Costco last year. If you watch Costco they may get these slippers in again this year. They also have Ugg dupes that are really nice.

end of year projects

I have a lot of little things I like to do to tidy up my life at the end of a year. One is to clean out my closet. I began that process this week. Anything I haven’t worn or used this year is neatly packed up and taken to the consignment store or Good Will. It feels so good to get rid of clutter and share things with others that might like them for a while. I am even getting rid of a bunch of handbags that I thought I would never let go. But they just sit in their covers in the closet so its time to find them a new home. I am loving all the extra space I am seeing.

Mixing Colors

color 15.JPG

the scoop

I am such a fan of color. I like a nice neutral look but color makes my heart sing. And what better time than fall to mix things up with vibrant colors. So in this look I mixed oxblood and mustard!

my look

I’m wearing a leather jacket in oxblood that I got from ASOS several years ago. It is probably my favorite leather jacket ever. My top is old too with a mock turtleneck and slightly belled sleeves from Nordstrom. Jeans are my all time favorite flares from Express and booties are so old I can’t remember where they came from. My bag is one you see me carry all the time, an investment piece that was worth it. It is Claire V.

New Way to Wear a Scarf

black 9.JPG

the scoop

The next couple of posts will be pictures from our stay in the mountains. We are back in the city now and I have tons of things going on. It’s Halloween, I have neighbor who is now my walking partner and a new friend to meet for coffee. Plus we are hosting Thanksgiving here this year so I am planning for that.

black 7.JPG

my look

I was watching “Hot and Flashy” one of my favorite You Tubers and saw her style a scarf in a new way. I loved it so much I had to try it. I have worn it sort of like this before but I had the scarf tucked into the belt all the way around. I love it so much more with the back not tucked in.

I always think of the scarf as the star of the show when I wear it, so nothing much else is going on in this look. I have the basic back drop of jeans and a black tee. The belt is a little blingy but I loved how it looked.

Everything I am wearing is old so I won’t try to link up things right now. Maybe tonight I will add some to my Like To Know It. All you have to do is download the app and follow me for the latest posts. I think most of us have all the elements in our closets anyway.

  • We sold one of our airplane hangars so we have to run out there today to get the last of our stuff out of it.

  • Since we drive right by Costco on the way I am sure we will stop there.

  • It’s Halloween and I can’t wait to give out candy to all the little Trick or Treaters!

  • My new walking partner and I will be taking a walk in our beautiful neighborhood.

  • And it’s basically November now so it’s time to start planning holiday events!

  • Next week I have some new things to show you. I had a surprise PR package on my doorstep the other day full of fabulous clothes. I love to get surprises like that!

Something to read . . .

When we were moving things this summer, I found this old copy of To Kill A Mockingbird in our library. I could hardly remember what it was about so kept it out to read.

This book according to a 2008 poll was voted greatest novel of all time. See the article here.

I found it so interesting to see all the different book covers with new editions. This one is my copy from around 1988.

Thanks for stopping by!

Saturday Mountain Style

leopard 2.JPG

My Saturday style in the mountains!

the scoop

It’s been so nice here in the mountains for the weekend. I have mixed in taking care of business, relaxation and fun relatively evenly. There are always threes things I have to do when I come up now that we are not here full time. I have to vacuum, dust and clean bathrooms/change bedding. So I break it up into a chore a day so nothing is too much. Then I always cook because I love to cook and eat! I try to get some outdoor time in via, hiking, running or just sitting outside on the deck. Lastly I do a little picture taking for the blog.

leopard 4.JPG

Each season in the mountains has its own special beauty.

my look

So, everything I have on is too big. I don’t know why I insist on getting things too big but it seems I always order them that way. Not always but often. This top is Free People and it is way too big. I always get a small in Free People but never again. After so many too big sweaters I have learned my lesson. This brand runs way large. My jeans are new and they are high waisted skinny jeans in my favorite brand. I ordered a size up thinking it would be easier to tuck tops into them but after wearing them all day they are falling off so another lesson learned. Although I can probably wash and dry them in hot water and make them work. My hunter boots are a half size too big too but with heavy socks they are fine.

Linking my exact top. I usually wear small in tops and this one is a small but an extra small would have been much better for me. Linking exact jeans, my favorite brand 7 For All Mankind (TTS), Linking exact Hunger Boots. My Tory Burch bag is old but I found another Tory Burch in red that is similar but my red is more of a fire engine red I think.

Life right outside my front door!

  • It’s our second day here and I am loving it. It rained all night last night and it was nice to sleep listening to rain gently fall.

  • We had chili and corn bread last night and tonight I am grilling steak to go with salad and baked potatoes.

  • I got some new make up at the drug store to play with along with some bubble bath for a relaxing hot bath tonight.

  • You can see our first fire of the season on my IG Stories Highlight here! It was so beautiful.

  • Planning another big fire tonight as we watch the sun set. Which reminds me I have to run out and bring in some wood!

How I Weekend in the Mountains

Fall

in the mountains is magical!

the scoop

Last night we hopped in the car with the dogs and drove up to our place in the mountains. I had been gone for a couple of weeks and was missing it. It was after dark when we got there so we unpacked the car and settled in for the night. Today, I sprung out of bed ready to face a chilly day in the mountains. I tidied up the house first while drinking lots of coffee.

I couldn’t decide if I wanted to work on a blog post but after getting dressed I decided to snap a few pictures and put up a quick post. Rain is moving in later today so I have lots to do until then.

my look

I decided to wear a pair of high waisted jeans, low heeled OTK boots, a black tee and top it off with a cozy blanket scarf. It was perfect for this fall day. I bought the high waisted jeans in my favorite brand but sized up so I could tuck tops in and wear belts easily. I am so happy I did because they are so comfortable.

  • I’m keeping this short today so I can run into town and get some groceries. I want to make chili and cornbread and an apple cake.

  • I will be going on a trail run or hike and it may be in the rain which I love to do. I have always loved to run, walk or hike in a light rain. It’s like you are the only one in world outside and so peaceful.

  • I need some things at the drug store, like bubble bath, face powder and maybe nail polish.

  • I’m looking forward to tonight by the fireplace with a glass of wine reflecting on a beautiful day.

You can take the girl out of the mountains, but

camo 11.JPG

City

life . . .

the scoop

August was supposed to be a break for me but it ended up adding years to my life. In my last post here where I updated you at mid point of my "blogging break" I explained a lot of what was going on. But things got worse before they got better.

My husband's pneumonia got worse, his lung collapsed with fluid and a trip to the ER ensued. The big issue was that at our age getting pneumonia out of the blue when you are seemingly very healthy can be a sign of lung cancer. And since there is a family history of lung cancer along with other symptoms we had quite a scare for a couple of weeks as we ruled that out. Gratefully it was ruled out and he is finally almost back to normal.

fight or flight

I, on the other hand have aged 10 years. I was in continual fight or flight mode for a few weeks, working nonstop to care for him all the while fearing the worst. I am so grateful to breath again and now it is time to think about myself and caring for my health. I don't have a real plan yet but I am getting in long walks and sleeping and eating better.

camo 2.JPG

at least

i'm not in sweats!

my look

You can take the girl out of the mountains but you can't take the mountains out of the girl are my thoughts on this look. I have lived in joggers the past month and for this shoot I kicked it up a notch (ha ha) with very distressed jeans and a camo shirt. Most of the day I was bare footed but when I had to go out I added a pair of low heeled booties and carried my LV MM bag.

Same shirt (LOVE!), same brand jeans (SO COMFY), options for fun fall booties and totes!

sup'

We are back in the mountains as I write this post. We needed to come up to check on things since we have been away for a while. But OMG I am loving my place in the city. It is much smaller than our mountain home and I adore the coziness of it as I build our nest. I went for the not trendy layout with this house. I love different rooms and don't feel the need for the open concept that is so popular. It is open enough to feel connected but still lends the ability to have variety in decorating. The house is 18 years old and had only one other owner which was the people who built it. They took loving care of it and did so many unique things while they were there.

Everything is still a work in progress but so far I have our bedroom about done, outside of painting it. I am trying out the existing deep purple walls for a while because I actually find them rather serene. I have the kitchen set up but will change the counter tops down the road. I know quartz is all the rage but I still love granite and plan on replacing the existing counter tops with that. I am still thinking about painting the kitchen cabinets. I read that natural wood was going to be on trend this coming season and really like the way they are right now.

My dining room is done except for hanging my curtains and more furniture for our family room arrives this week and I am so excited! I am going to wait on the formal living room decor for a while as I percolate ideas but right now I am totally thinking mid century modern (ish). Deep colors for the sofa and chairs and maybe a fun texture for the fabrics, like velvet. I'm in no hurry though so I will have one big empty room for while. Oh and our patio is still stark naked! Soon though.

Dog Days Of Summer And A Blogging Break Update

shorts 1.JPG

Sup' Gang?

Popping in from my hiatus to say hi!

the scoop

There is so much to tell you and I don't really like to bore you too much so let's just say things have been crazy around here. But I wanted to check in at midway through my month off of blogging to let you know what's happening.

I was so over blogging for a a while and I am only starting to miss it a little. But even if I did miss it I wouldn't have time to do it. My husband has been the sickest he has ever been since I have known him. He is a major health nut but somehow he got walking pneumonia. And he is very anti medication so he refused to go to the doctor for six weeks. Finally I threatened him and he went and they put him on antibiotics and now at week eight he is starting to come out of it. But he was so sick for a long time.

My son and grandson came to visit for a week and we had a wonderful time. I miss them now that they are gone. We hiked, ran, cooked, made jams, went shopping and so much more. It was a whirl wind visit and I needed a couple of days rest after. I don't know if I ever told you this but my son is the male version of me. Seriously we love all the same things in life. First family, then cooking, fashion, fitness, etc. It is so fun to share things with someone who gets me so clearly. We are both introverts and just think the same way about life. It's interesting and fun!

Around the time of all this starting we were already in the process of buying a house so most the running, and making decisions was done by me alone.  We bought a house in Boise for when we spend time there. You all know how I love the quiet life here in the mountains but l also like the city life from time to time so now we have a place to stay when we go down. For the past few weeks I have been setting up that place when I have time between taking care of my husband and company visiting. We have one more round of family coming at the end of August but just for a couple of nights. I am prepping for that now.

Through all this I am trying to take care of myself which has been hard. You know how we always put others' needs first. It's in our genes. But I have continued to run a few times a week and have been extremely active with moving and keeping things under control. My diet has suffered since I have been needing a little comfort food, so lots of room for improvement there. You all probably understand the toll stress can take on your body. This spring has been a land mind of stress for me. I lost a beloved aunt, a favorite uncle, and a brother. My mother is very ill as well as other siblings with advanced lung diseases. My son went through a heart breaking divorce and then my husband got sick. I feel a little battered right now but know the only way out is up. So I make each day a day to be grateful and carry on.

Now that my husband is on the mend I plan to really work on my health, lose the five pounds that I put on over the winter and keep the joy of life as a top priority. Wish me luck!

my look

This was a very casual day for me like most of my days recently. I am obsessed with this long shirt that can be worn as a dress or a duster. It will carry me through fall and winter with so many styling options. I can't wait to experiment! For this look I wore a pair of DIY cut offs and a gray cami. Nude flip flops worked just right for the day.

Got Blog?

I plan  to be back to my blogging routine in September but I still feel I need a little change so I am trying to envision what that might be. Meanwhile I decorated my office in the house in the city. And I totally love it! I went with a bit of a French theme but really I had no plan when I started. I just went shopping a picked out things I loved and somehow they all came together. The desk is a beautiful deep red and I still have to get a chair and a chandelier. I tweaked a little more after this picture, added a few more accessories and installed my Alexa. The results were a peaceful pleasant space to dream, create and be happy. I'll try to follow up with better and more pictures soon.

Blogger's Slump?

scarf 6.JPG

the scoop

Well gang, I must confess my heart is not into blogging lately. I am in a total slump and have no vision or inspiration for fun new looks to share. I am not sure if it is a temporary thing or what but I am struggling and have been for most of the summer. Is that called a blogger's slump? I don't know but I got it bad. So I am going to take the month of August off and see if some time off will help me get my mojo back. I'll take some time and try to enjoy some summer with family and friends and hope this passes. Some good old fashion taking care of myself may go a long way. Finger's crossed!

scarf 8.JPG

my look

These pants are so different with the fun hem. I haven't worn them for almost a year and thought wearing them with a white tee might be fun. Then I added an old square scarf and an old pair of wedge sandals to complete my look. My orange tassel earrings and a wicker bag were great accessories.

Summer Color

turq 17.JPG

Summer

color.

the scoop

There are certain colors that feel like summer to me and turquoise is one of those colors. I don't have lot of this color in my closet but the few pieces I have stand the test of time and always are perfect for a summer day.

Speaking of summer it is in full swing here in the mountains. Our days are in the upper 80s and nights in the mid 50s. Perfect temperatures only marred by the fires all over the west including here in Idaho. We couldn't drive down to the city using our normal route today due to fires shutting down the highway. We're hoping they open up by tonight so we can go down. These fires are normal for this time of year in Idaho but they are making our air smokey which can irritate the eyes and throat. But nothing can dull the beauty of this time of  year in my eyes. We're certainly hoping for a short fire season this year for everyone being effected.

turq 1.JPG

sup"

We're going down to the city for the weekend for a furniture delivery to the house and to check out the fabulous Farmer's Market down town. We are also going to one of the local orchards for peaches, they are just coming into season. Normally I would be making jams with them but this year I am so busy I may not tackle that job.

Summer Sweaters

Cotton

Sweaters are always so fabulous!

the scoop

I love summer sweaters. The feel of all cotton is so comfortable and the look is casual. They are perfect for throwing on over a tank top or tee in the cool evenings. I also wear them with skirts, shorts or even over a swim suit.

Here are links to some pretty summer sweaters all on sale!

Also sharing links to some fun shoes and bags!

beach 19.JPG

my look

This free people sweater is from last season but it gets a lot of use still. I love it so much I have it is a soft white too. Here I am wearing it over a lace bralette and pairing it with a really old pair of boot cut jeans. I have had the jeans now 12 or 13 years. They are Lucky Brand which is still one of my favorite brands next to 7 For All Mankind. I am wearing a pair of two tone sandals that have orange and tan leather straps. I have so much orange in my closet these shoes go with almost everything I own. For a bag I am carrying my thrift shop find from a couple of years ago. It was in new condition and so cute! For jewelry I am wearing a Mexican Fire Opal, hands down my favorite necklace.

sup'

After a week of no Internet while we were setting up our house in the city I am back in the mountains escaping the 100 degree temps. We finally got the Internet connected just before I left so next time I'm down there I will be able to keep with my posts. I can't believe I missed two posts, a rare thing indeed!

Now I am getting our house in the mountains ready for house guests. My son and grandson are coming to visit for a week and we have so much planned. My grandson and I are big on snake hunting, rock collecting and making root beer floats! He is a real outdoors type just like me. We may even do some huckleberry picking. I know we will spend time at the lake swimming and sandcastle building too. My son and I will do some trail running and wine tasting. We always have such a good time together, he is so much like me it is crazy. We plan on doing a lot of cooking too.

Making Camo Feminine

camo 9.JPG

Camo

Feeling feminine in a masculine pattern.

the scoop

I grew up in an area where people hunted and camo was worn for that purpose. I never really thought of wearing camo until the last few years of watching it being transformed into so many fun outfits. I now have this pattern in a tee, shirt, jacket and jeans. I love them all and find them so versatile. I have found that I can put together really feminine looks now and it's fun.

Now is a great time to get a field jacket. Linking several below, all on sale. Perfect to tie around your waist outside but put on in the cold resturants and shops.

camo 3.JPG

Stella

thinks I've lost is again!

my look

For this look I am wearing a black tee dress. It is just tee shirt material with a relaxed fit and slit pockets on the sides. A favorite dress for me. I added a camo jacket since we have not even made it to the 70s most days here in the mountains. I wore a pair of platform espadrilles, and a pink cap to add feminine touches. I carried an old picnic basket for a tote to complete my look.

Linking fun options for dresses, sneakers and bags! All on sale!

The pants

that won't go away

the scoop

Remember last year when these pants were everywhere? I do, and earlier this spring I had them out again. Sorry about the quality of these pictures but things are torn up around here with working on redecorating the deck and media room so I had to dig back to pictures I hadn't planned on ever using.  Ha Ha. This outfit really was cute though, take my word for it.

The first pair linked are my exact pants, then I linked some others that are fun!

White shirts are basics we all need and have in our closets!

Camo with bright white

I like the contrast.

my look

These pants are so comfortable and have fun detail. The zippers at the ankles are so fun to zip up or unzip for different looks. A white top seemed like a nice contrast that would add interest. The tan wedges that are basically my everday shoe seemed just right. I love back packs and I have had this one for several years. It is a canvas material and goes with almost everything casual. For a third piece I added a denim jacket and my look was complete.

I love a good canvas backpack for summer. Here are some fun options!

Another summer basic? Wedges. The wooden ones have been on my wish list for a while.

Trail Blazer

Spring is the perfect time for. . .

Blazers

the scoop

Today was just crazy! We had a squirrel come down our chimney and was inside the fireplace. I felt so bad because he was so scared and the dogs were barking and freaking out. So we put the dogs in the bedroom, and opened the double front doors and then the fireplace doors. Out he came, looked around, jumped up on the bar and looked out the window then turned around a hopped out the front door and straight up a tree. Then we saw two either large coyotes or wolves running across the back part of our house in the forest. We have heard neighbors say they have spotted wolves so we are not sure.  We have baby deer hanging out all around and are so worried about them. It's like the wild kingdom here right now!

Now on to the topic of blazers. I have been seeing blazers on everyone this spring. And then I was on Pinterest this week and I saw so many cute combinations I couldn't wait to see what I could pull together.  Our weather right now still requires something on your arms so a blazer is perfect. Luckily I have several in my closet.

my look

I am wearing a pair of dark skinny jeans that I sized up on for a relaxed look. They have a high waist and a dark wash and I love them. I am wearing a tee that is really too big but since the pants were loose I was able to get it all tucked in. It is a soft and pretty tee though and I love it. It will be great with shorts this summer. Next I added a white blazer, a tan belt and tan wedge sandals. I carried a leopard bag and wore silver hoop earrings to complete this look.

I'm linking similar items so you can create you own look! You will see my exact shoes and tee but the tee shows orange. You can get it in blue, orange and yellow. Size down though.

I know I need to plant flowers in my pots, but it still gets below freezing at night so I will have to wait a little longer. At least the snow is almost all gone! Glass half full!

Thanks For Stopping By!

Date Night Look

For The Mountains

The Scoop

The sun is shinning in the mountains! Yay! To celebrate we went out to dinner. I wore what I call mountain casual style. Even though the sun is shinning for a few days the evenings are quite chilly. This called for my favorite leather jacket to keep me comfortable and stylish.

my look

I am wearing my 7 For All Mankind skinny jeans, Dolce Vita booties, a tunic length black tee  with a sharks high low hem and my leather jacket in the color oxblood. I carried my Clare V. clutch. This bag has been used more than almost any other bag for going out. It's not an everyday bag but it goes with everything it seems.
