Summer Chic

all black 1.JPG

the scoop

I love summer fashion but I think options are limited when it comes to variety. Other seasons give you more of an opportunity to layer which provides endless options and creativity. But I must admit putting together an outfit for an evening out is a lot of fun when you don't have to think about keeping warm. And I think a monochromatic look is so chic for summer. All black or all white just always works.

Linking exact jeans, shoes and top (limited sizes and colors) and a couple of similar tops and fun bags for summer.

all black 11.JPG

my look

This top covers a lot but yet it doesn't. The sleeves are sheer so not at all too warm for evenings and baring the shoulders is also a comfortable way to keep cool. This top is great because it is nicely secured around the neck. You don't even think about it falling or being too revealing. I decided to wear it with cropped black denim for a chic look. I had packed most of my belts to move to our other house so had to use this silver metal belt which I ended up actually liking. Nothing makes black pop more than tan shoes and bags so there you have it. A complete look. I added colorful earrings for fun. It wasn't planned but red toes and white nails added even more interest to this look.

Something New In Denim

Demin

Jumpsuit Style

the scoop

When I saw this jumpsuit I thought it was different and fun in so many ways. I've never had a jumpsuit and have been wanting one for a few years so this was going to fill the bill. I have to say the comfort level was 100%! It was just like having PJs on. Also, I liked that it was a new form of denim for me. I was certainly stepping out of my comfort zone with this look and I'm happy I did.

I got this jumpsuit and Marshalls about two weeks ago but when I was in the store last weekend I saw they still had them. So if you are near one, I would check there.

denim 20.JPG

my look

The fun thing about a jumpsuit is that they are easy. Not a lot to think about, you just put them on and go. I wore a fun pair of red mules with mine. They were easy to kick off when I wanted to relax but added a little pizzazz to the look. I wore a really old necklace that goes with everything. It was a one of a kind made in a small jewelry shop where I lived a long time ago. A navy fringed clutch completed my look.

Where The Wind Blows

It's my

Birthday Weekend!

the scoop

As I write this post I have no plans to celebrate my birthday. My husband's birthday is the day after mine and we decided to wing it! Fly by the seat of our pants and go where the wind blows us on our special weekend. No matter what we end up doing it will include taking time to relax and reflect and be grateful. We did manage to book a hotel at the last minute but other than that anything can happen! As long as I am in bed by 9! Ha ha!

Basket bags are so fun for summer, especially when they are thrifted!

my look

This top grabbed me when I saw it due to its bright colors. Then I saw the style. We used to make these tops by the dozens when I was a teen. We used a soft white rope cord to string through the top to tie it in the back. This is the easiest top to make and we all learned to sew making it. The fabric on this top is a crepe (another blast from the past) so it hangs softly which I love also. I wore it with jeans and platform wedges and carried a fabulous straw bag that I got a a thrift shop a few years ago. I wore my bright orange tassel earrings from Tuckernuck and a bracelet that I bought in Mazatlan a few years ago and my Michael Kors watch. And that was that! A fun summer look. I think I would like this top in other colors it is so cute and comfy. I wear stick on bras with tops like this. I'll link it so you can see what I am talking about.

Linking my top (tts, I am wearing a small petite for the shorter length) and jeans (limited sizing when I posted) along with shoe and bag options!

Arms

A Story About

Arms

the scoop

I can't believe I am still reading articles and posts saying women should not show their arms as they get older. Jeez people, what are we supposed to do when it gets hot? Give me a BREAK! Because of this societal pressure I used to be very self conscious of my arms. I have been working on silencing the voices of a life time of putting me in a corner and finding it rather easy. So when I found this top I thought it was so cute and by golly I was going to wear it! And I'm asking all my readers to join me and show your arms!

I'm linking my exact top in a gorgeous blue, similar pants and wedges that I recently bought and LOVE. I'm also linking a bag that I am obsessed with to complete this look for you!

my look

I wore this fabulous coral top with my olive green pants, tan wedge sandals and I carried my leopard clutch. For jewelry I wore large silver hoop earrings, my watch and a sliver bracelet. The top really was the star of the show so nothing more was needed.

Linking two complete "Show Your Arms" looks that would be so gorgeous!

Look Good Feel Good

Style Can Make You Smile

True that!

the scoop

I hear or read almost daily bloggers and readers saying that a certain outfit makes them feel good. And its true for me too. When I feel bad or low it is reflected in how I dress. Things just are off.  If I can find the right outfit sometimes it can change how I feel. Bright colors, comfortable fit, and a little trendiness splattered in can lift my spirits.

Obsessed with this fun summer tops . . .

Another thing that makes me feel better is to put a smile on my face. A smile is contagious, it is your best accessory, it is a signal that everything will be all right. As long as I can remember, people have commented that I am always smiling and I can't say why that is, only that it is how I connect with people. A smile goes a long way when putting others at ease. It's kind of like my personal hand shake.

Fabulous jeans and slides linked for creating your own look!

Color Your world

with smiles

my look

I have had this top for a while but was waiting for the right occasion to wear it. This day was they day. The sun was shining and it was warm for our standards - in the upper 60s. I wanted my look to reflect the beauty and lightness of the day.

I wore this off shoulder festive top with my comfy flare jeans and tan mules. I carried my Ark bag and wore bright red tassel earrings along with a white watch and beaded bracelet to complete this look.

Details make a look  . . .

my hair

I got a hair cut a few weeks ago and my stylist took a lot of length off. She cut it in a graduated style and I love it. But it is still too long so I am going back this week to get a few more inches taken off. Same style just shorter. I love this style because I can just wash and go. These pictures show how my hair looks when I just wash it and let it air dry and do nothing else. It was part of my causal feel good look.

Mother's Day Everyday

Mother's Day

Everyday

the scoop

Everyday is mother's day. We don't need a special day to remember all we do as parents, step parents, pet parents, parent parents and the list goes on. We all nurture and care for others all the time or at some point in time. We make the world go round and should never have to remind others to honor us.

Meanwhile, since the world insists that we have a mother's day I plan to make it special! (Cheryl style!) Which means usually a project. Ha ha. On Saturday we had a big garage sale which was such an event I could write a whole post on that alone. But the main thing is that I sold all my old deck furniture so I can get newer more modern and colorful decor.

So on Mother's Day we will be combing the stores for just the right things. I have a perfect rug and iron chandelier and a nice stainless grill but that is all. I want a conversation seating set, a smaller intimate dining table and chairs and maybe lounge chairs. I want bright colorful cushions. We have a pergola and I got really large sun sails to hang for more shade and so I will want a little accent type decor too. This to me is fun!  I want a space where I can work on my blog, entertain, and really use. We have so much company coming this summer that a nice space outside will get lots of use.

my look

A couple of weeks ago I ordered six dresses to try out. I have a hard time finding dresses that fit well but wanted to add a couple to my closet for spring. True to form four of the five I have tried so far wouldn't work. This is the only one I liked and I just love it. Partly because of the sunny yellow colors but partly the casual style. I can wear flat sandals with this dress for an even more casual look. I wore wedges and carried my wicker clutch and wore turquoise tassel earrings to complete my outfit.

I'm linking fun options for creating your own look!

weather update

We are still having some pretty chilly days but the day I took these pictures it was gorgeous. Only about 60 degrees but the sun made it feel much warmer. Our grass is as green as can be and things are starting to grow. It's time for me to plant my annual flowers in the pots and spruce the place up! One of my favorite things to do!

Trail Blazer

Spring is the perfect time for. . .

Blazers

the scoop

Today was just crazy! We had a squirrel come down our chimney and was inside the fireplace. I felt so bad because he was so scared and the dogs were barking and freaking out. So we put the dogs in the bedroom, and opened the double front doors and then the fireplace doors. Out he came, looked around, jumped up on the bar and looked out the window then turned around a hopped out the front door and straight up a tree. Then we saw two either large coyotes or wolves running across the back part of our house in the forest. We have heard neighbors say they have spotted wolves so we are not sure.  We have baby deer hanging out all around and are so worried about them. It's like the wild kingdom here right now!

Now on to the topic of blazers. I have been seeing blazers on everyone this spring. And then I was on Pinterest this week and I saw so many cute combinations I couldn't wait to see what I could pull together.  Our weather right now still requires something on your arms so a blazer is perfect. Luckily I have several in my closet.

my look

I am wearing a pair of dark skinny jeans that I sized up on for a relaxed look. They have a high waist and a dark wash and I love them. I am wearing a tee that is really too big but since the pants were loose I was able to get it all tucked in. It is a soft and pretty tee though and I love it. It will be great with shorts this summer. Next I added a white blazer, a tan belt and tan wedge sandals. I carried a leopard bag and wore silver hoop earrings to complete this look.

I'm linking similar items so you can create you own look! You will see my exact shoes and tee but the tee shows orange. You can get it in blue, orange and yellow. Size down though.

I know I need to plant flowers in my pots, but it still gets below freezing at night so I will have to wait a little longer. At least the snow is almost all gone! Glass half full!

Dressing For Date Night

Date Night Look

For The Mountains

The Scoop

The sun is shinning in the mountains! Yay! To celebrate we went out to dinner. I wore what I call mountain casual style. Even though the sun is shinning for a few days the evenings are quite chilly. This called for my favorite leather jacket to keep me comfortable and stylish.

my look

I am wearing my 7 For All Mankind skinny jeans, Dolce Vita booties, a tunic length black tee  with a sharks high low hem and my leather jacket in the color oxblood. I carried my Clare V. clutch. This bag has been used more than almost any other bag for going out. It's not an everyday bag but it goes with everything it seems.

Fun options for your own look linked below!

Camo For Spring?

Camo for spring?

It's a thing! All you have to do is add some white to make it pop for the season!

I guess we see camo being worn for about every season. It's almost become a neutral. I think of it as something I wear in the fall the most. But I LOVE these pants so much and had to see how they would work for a spring look.

In this look I wore a my newest field jacket, a pair of wedge sandals and a bamboo bag.

Here are links to my exact look!

Adding white to my look

along with wedge sandals and bamboo bag gave these pants a real spring vibe.

For this look I switched out my jackets for a light weight duster and loved the way it turned out. These pants are so fun with the zipper detail. They have a little stretch so they are oh so comfy! I tried different earrings with each look and just cannot get enough of the Baublebar earrings from Target.

Thanks for Stopping by gang!

YouTube + Scissors =Bangs

YouTube + scissors = Bangs!

I have always been risky with my hair. Coloring it myself, perms way back when and yes I even have cut it if I am inspired.

As I have grown older I am a little more reserved when a whim to make a change takes over. But last weekend I was totally bored. Note: My mom always said only stupid people got bored so lets not tell her.  Ha ha! Anyhow, I started watching YouTube videos, my newest obsession. I watched a video on hair trends for 2018 and learned the number one trend was going to be fringe also called bangs. Also known as the "french facelift." I thought, I could use a lift!

Hmmmm. Well I was in Arizona and my stylist was in Idaho so I had a problem. First, I am not a patient person and second, I have a laissez-faire attitude most of the time. I remembered some disasters by my own hands but the thought whatever, it will grow back. So I proceeded to watch several videos on cutting your own bangs. I checked to see what style bangs would work for my face shape and exactly how to cut them the way I wanted. Then I walked into the bathroom and did everything I was instructed and boom, here I am.

I will have to train my hair to stay parted in the middle and my bangs to hang straight but I also sort of like the messy effect right now. I then watched videos on all sorts of ways to style your hair with bangs and I am so excited to play around with them this spring. Think up-dos, scarves and more!  I'll have my stylist clean it up a little but I think this is fun for a spring change.

Speaking of my stylist, she will probably faint when she sees my DIY haircolor that I have been playing with. But I am sure she can whip it back to pre-me and my YouTube days.

Bangs seem so retro.

The hair style I was going for was the iconic brow length bangs combined with overall long hair made popular in the 1970s by the English actress and singer Jane Birkin. For more details on the history of bangs go here.

I wanted to share my new hair style with you but also wanted to show you these fun earrings. Baublebar has really fun jewelry and now you can by this brand at target! I got these fun earrings along with several other bright colored ones for spring and summer.

As for my outfit since I was feeling retro I wore my bell bottoms and a black front tie tee and platform shoes. I tied a white knit jacket around my waist and carried my leopard clutch to complete this look.

Linking up my Express jeans, Ted Baker platform shoes and my Clare V. clutch along with fun options for creating your own look!

Thanks for stopping by Gang!

Sheer Tops & Style Wise Link Up

So A sheer top you say?

I usually don't wear them because the need to layer underneath adds bulk that doesn't work on my short frame.

But when I saw this top it was so beautiful that I thought I would give it the old college try! I found a nice fitted little white t-back tank and hauled it all home. All the while thinking I wouldn't be able to pull it off and would be returning.

I styled it with my long and lean flares and my platform shoes and SHAZAM! I think it worked! I can't tell you how pretty this top is, with the navy color and white dots and flowers. It has big bell sleeves with a split and a sharks tooth hem. It has it all and screams spring!

My top is no longer available but here are some beautiful options for creating your own look. Sheer tops are so popular for spring and I am obsessed with the longer ones so stay tuned for that!

It was just fun putting it on

I felt sassy, comfortable and bohemain all at the same time.

The trick I think was the form fitting tank and the longer jeans to help balance my body. Also choosing a sheer top that was the perfect fit in my shoulders and length just hitting the tops of my thighs helped. My white cross body bag was the perfect bag for this look. I had to have a glass of wine to celebrate my success in making this sheer tunic work!

The first pair of jeans and the first pair of shoes linked are what I am wearing  and I've added more options along with bags too, for creating your own look!

As always gang, thanks for stopping by!

Peace!

My Hair, The Long & The Short Of It

hair 5.jpg

shop my hair products

the scoop

Its always fun to check my blog stats and see what interests people. The most searched word on my blog is hair. So I thought I would tell you a little about my hair. Two things for sure. One, I never take more than ten minutes on my hair. I am just too lazy. Two, I rarely try to style it the same way twice. It's just too boring.

my cut

I am lucky in that I have found two of the most amazing stylists for the past 20+ years of my life. I went to same one when I lived in Arizona for 12 years.  And currently I have been with my stylist here in Idaho for a little more than ten years. I now just think of her as my friend who styles my hair. I adore her. She knows me, knows my hair and it is a perfect union! She is not afraid to guide me away from something that won't work for me and I'm not afraid to tell her to do whatever she wants with my hair. She cuts in layers but that is about all I can tell you because I am usually talking my head off while she is working and she changes the cut often.

I posted a few pictures of my styles for this year but if you look at years past (see archives up top) , I have it seems, a dozen different looks at least. I started out 2017 with a shorter hair cut and kept it fairly short until the last few months. After going through all these pictures I am thinking about going shorter again. It was fun and versatile.

I posted the pictures oldest to newest to give you an idea of the different looks I like.

my hair care

I try to take very good care of my hair without making it into a chore. First I eat healthy and drink lots of water. I take lots of supplements to make sure my body, skin and hair have the nutrients they need to stay healthy. As I get older it seems I have to eat less to maintain my healthy weight so supplements are vital to me.

I wash my hair every three to four days. I usually let it air dry or mostly air dry. If I don't have somewhere to be that is all I do. If I am going somewhere I will either flat iron it, or curl it. However I style it, it will mostly stay that way until I wash next. I use almost no product other than shampoo and conditioner but when I do, I use some really amazing things.

Until recently I used Redken Gold shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. But recently I was given samples of a product to try and it blew me away. I will be using it from now on! I will link all the products I use but the name of the shampoo, conditioner and an all in one milk, is Avines OI. (TIP: It's an all natural product so you need to rub it between your hands well before applying to get a lather.

my hair color

Until about a year ago, since I was about 21-years-old I always colored my own hair. Last year, my stylist took over because I thought I wanted her to start blending in my gray. I have very little gray so far but what was showing up just wasn't what I liked so last month when I was in Arizona and couldn't get to my stylist I went back to my old hair color on my own. You can't tell that much difference in pictures but I can tell in person and am happier sans the gray for now. I linked what I use. I try to only go a shade or two lighter than my own color. I use medium golden blond but sometimes in the summer I use light golden blond. I only color about once every 8 to 12 weeks.
