Belt Bag Plus Red Sneakers Equals Summer Style and Where Have All The Bloggers Gone?

red 1.JPG

The Scoop

So this is a fun look that I wore over the weekend. It was total comfort and quite on trend. Again I share my love for the belt bag. What a simple thing to add to a look for chicness and practicality. Our highs on this day were only in the upper 60s so I grabbed an old white jean jacket. We went to town ate burgers at the gas station. They have a little cafe in the back of the local gas station that makes the best homemade burgers I have ever eaten. Then we roamed around town to walk off some of the load. ha ha.

To Blog or Not to Blog

I just saw another blogger posting on IG about whether blogging or the social media commitment that goes along with it is worth the work. I could totally relate.

I had an IG account with over 10,000 followers and shut it down because it was all so much work and the effort seemed to only bring out the worst in humanity. Sure lots of my gal pals supported me and I supported them but the pressure to always be posting and responding was just sucking the life out of me. So I shut it down. I started a new account with the intention of blocking anyone or anything that wasn’t there for my real message but I hardly go there because I can’t keep up with all the blocking I have to do. Daily I get bots that disguise as men. It just kind of disgusts me what Zuckerberg has done with his power and what could be such a simple pleasant social sharing.

I had already shut down my Facebook and Twitter but I hesitated with IG because I thought it directed more people to my blog. But then I thought why do I blog? Not to try to get a million followers, but to express myself and use my creative energy. I want to record a little bit of who I am for my children and grandchildren. It’s my journal and now I have almost six years worth of memories. Everything from bears on my porch, to snow storms to hiking mountains and picking wild mushrooms, its all there. I like the feeling of leaving that behind. I mean meeting lovely readers was more than icing on the cake but what more did I want? You know what I discovered? Nothing! This is all I want. A fun little blog, with amazing sweet readers and a journal of some of my life.

So shutting down FB, Twitter and IG didn’t ruin my blog. It only made me feel free and fabulous! And I have loyal readers who are fun and teach me so many wonderful things. I don’t feel I have to be perfect and sharing my imperfections makes it all more fun. I am still getting new readers every week too. I don’t do any collaborations anymore either. I just do the LiketoKnow.it affiliate program because they are so nice to work with and don’t make you feel like you have to compete and they always are helping in any way they can. There are some good platforms out there. I love Pinterest but have noticed lately more and more men/bots following my boards. It feels sort of predatory. So I guess is will be next to go.

At the end of the day I have seen a lot of my favorite bloggers disappear and I think I know why.

What about you, do you enjoy these media platforms? What do you think about blogs?

Casual Friday Work Outfit

blazer 9.JPG

The Scoop

I used to work at universities at an executive level and therefore wore a lot of business wear. My favorite was to wear a pants suit but I also loved pencil skirts and sometimes dresses. Since I started working from home I no longer need to dress that formally but now and then I like to wear business casual.

Many workplaces allow business casual on Fridays and some most days of the week. What a wonderful world we live in! Ha ha.

blazer 3.JPG

My Look

In my last post I told you I had picked up a couple of black blazers at the thrift shops and how excited I was to style them. In this post I am styling the Banana Republic blazer. I’m wearing it with an older Loft white button down shirt and a new pair of Joe’s cropped jeans and a pair of fabulous black pumps. I found these pumps a couple of years ago, also at a local Phoenix thrift shop. I carried my Louis Vuitton Never Full MM to complete this look.

There is nothing I don’t like about the outfit and I would wear it for so many occasions, like a date night, lunch with friends or even to go shopping. I have other black blazers but this is totally my favorite now.

Along with your white shirt or tee add a pair of pointy toe pumps and a power bag and you are good to go! I prefer a lower heel, it makes you look more in control somehow.

Cabi

cabi 2.JPG

The Scoop

I have been really focusing on fitness lately and doing a lot of reading and researching fashion. Melissa of Fresh Air and False Lashes told me about Busbee Style and I have been binge watching her YouTube and reading her blog. She is an amazing inspiration to me. My head is so full of ideas I am about to burst.

I am still struggling with getting decent pictures but you know it’s a fun problem to have, right? And my readers are so dear and forgiving. How did I get so lucky to have this support system? I tear up just thinking about the kind words over the years and the people that have inspired me beyond description. If you ever think you are alone or an oddball like me, you’re not! There are others whose hearts beat almost exactly like yours and they lift you up.

Gosh, I got off track! Ha ha.

My Look

So this is super fun! I wanted to shoot a look with a black blazer and didn’t have one here in Arizona so I decided to check out the thrift shops. OMG I got so lucky and found two right away both really nice. My favorite is a Banana Republic and the other is a fabulous Kasper brand. Both are lined and very well made, in perfect condition and fit perfectly.

But on with the story. The Goodwill stores here in Arizona have everything for half price on Saturdays and this was a Saturday so the lines were so long!!! Almost back half way through the store but I felt these jackets were worth the wait so I got in line. Lucky for me the line was right by all the sleeveless tops in my size. Tons of them. So as I waited I perused the merchandise. Well I found two beautiful 100% silk Cabi tops. Score! Ha! They were just so pretty and half price.

This top is one of them. I brought them both home and hand washed and dried with a little ironing and they both look like new. I wore this one with my favorite Lucky Brand jeans, and a pair of booties. I tried two different purses and liked them both. One of the bags is the Gigi bag I won in a blogger contest last winter and the other is my new mustard backpack. Oh and I wore giant hoop earrings.

Valentine's Date Night Look

The Scoop

Happy February gang! Can you believe we are well into 2019 already? February means we start thinking (or not) of that fun holiday where we celebrate those we love! It may be our partner, children, or close friends that we call our valentine but we love an excuse to eat candy and celebrate. And for some of us it is a distraction to get us through winter and closer to spring!

My husband and I have no Valentine’s Day traditions. Over the years we have done different things. Like one year he ran me a bubble bath with candles all around to soak in while he made a romantic dinner. One year, I did everything, made a dinner, dressed up in a sexy red dress and all he had to do was bring me flowers. Easy! Last year I thought we wouldn’t do anything and he surprised me with a big bag full of goodies, candy, jewelry, card, etc. He gave it to me after I had on my old PJs and I opened it in bed and ate it all right then! I thought it was so fun. Some years we do nothing at all. This year? We plan to go out to a favorite restaurant.

Do you have Valentines’s Day traditions or do you wing it like us?

My Look

Since we will be going out I need a dress! Right? I created a holiday look this year that I loved so much I thought I would do something similar for Valentines Day. I have this dress in three colors, black (see here), blue (see here) and now this gray. It is such a versatile dress that I wear it for a lot of things. You can add anything to it to give it a different vibe. Since it is cool at night here in Arizona I added a big cozy red cardigan. This cardigan is perfection! Soft, over sized, and that deep color of red that I think of on Valentine’s Day. The sweater will be used for many outfits for me because where I am in the summer (Idaho Mountains) is sometimes colder than where I am now (Arizona Desert). I decided to wear my floral Sam Edelman sandals to complete this look. I grabbed my backpack but will probably just carry a clutch when we go out. For jewelry I wore big hoop earrings, a fabulous statement necklace and my look was complete.

Mustard Please

mustard 3.JPG

The Scoop

The weekend here was so nice and I am grateful to enjoy it. Low 70s and sunny. When we are here in Arizona we walk almost every where we go. Our favorite grocery store (Sprouts) is next to a Starbucks so we walk there almost daily to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables and then we pick up a coffee on the way back. It is about 3 miles total trip so lots of days it is our workout. We are really into it with our backpacks and sneakers. Ha ha.

I love to cook so much so we don’t eat out often but there is a little sports grill about a mile away that we walk to once in a while for fish tacos. We really try to work in fun with exercise every single day. I try to cook following the Mediterranean diet which is easy when you love fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, avocados, olive oil, etc. like we do. I also can have a small glass of wine each day when I follow the guidelines.

mustard 4.JPG

My Look

I am really loving all the mustard items in the stores lately. I have always loved this color and have a lot of it in my closet but it hasn’t always been easy to find. It is a color that some love and some don’t. I am in the I do camp. I found this top and decided that floral sandals would be so cute with the stripes in the top. I wore my Lucky Brand jeans which are my favorites right now. They are skinny’s but I went up a size for a more relaxed look and feel. To complete the look I carried my mustard back pack and I wore a Kendra Scott necklace.

The Utility Jacket

green 1.JPG

The Scoop

This look is awful! Ha ha! But it is all I have in new pictures so I’ll show you what I don’t like about it. I don’t like jeans with holes anymore. I don’t know what happened but over the last year I have grown to not like the look on me. Other’s look fabulous but for me not so much. I still wear them once in a while though because they are in the closet and who knows I may start liking them again.

Keep watching my posts to see what I’ve been doing around the condo. We have new carpet being installed next week and it will be so much nicer. We have hesitated putting much money into a condo that we don’t spend too much time in but the current carpet is old and I can’t live with it any longer. We considered putting in wood floors but since we are on second floor we felt like the noise might be too much for the people below us. I guess wood or tile floors make more noise. But I found a fabulous light colored carpet that I love that will be serene, cozy and block out some of the sound for us too.

There were a couple of walls that were brown and I painted them the same linen color as the rest of the condo and like it much better. I took the dark curtains down and replaced them with linen ones and started putting more modern things on the walls. I knew I wanted a collection of clocks on one wall and I found the perfect ones at Hobby Lobby. I moved my framed art to the dining area and then put up a big mirror above the sofa. Things are starting to take shape.

I also have mercilessly been going through every cabinet, closet or corner and gotten rid of everything we don’t use. I took all our dishes down to just four place settings including all glassware. I also got rid of anything that looked out dated and boring (still more to do). Out with the old fashioned stereo system and in with the Alexa’s and Google Home systems. We are ordering them around all day long, we even control our heat by telling them what temperature we want. They let us know when a package is about to arrive and when it has been delivered. It is endless what these gadgets will do to make life easier. Anyway, I still have more to do but it has been so great seeing the clutter disappear. We ordered handles for the cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom since they did’t have any and it was another thing to drive me crazy always messing up my nails trying to open cabinets and drawers. I thought about painting the cabinets but kind of like the color of wood next to the linen colored walls. Its a nice contrast.

Up next is to put the handles on the doors and drawers and then I start painting base boards to freshen them up. I kind of like doing all these things. It has been chilly (for AZ standards) and raining a lot (also for AZ standards) so it is a good time to get things done. Because in another week or so it will be time to hit the pool and spa, sit out on the patio and get back to runs and hikes and shopping and the list goes on!

Stay tuned and I’ll keep you posted on my little projects and try to find fashion inspiration for us all!

My Look

I’m wearing Express Destroyed Skinny jeans, an Express Cami, a utility jacket (not sure where I got it but it is getting donated along with the jeans, this week) and low heeled booties. I am carrying a fabulous canvas backpack to complete this look! I do like it and the cami, booties and bag. So that’s something.

I’m linking some fabulous finds that I just ordered today! There are only a couple of the backpacks left but I love canvas backpacks like these. My current one is Fryes and I have had it for years but the Tommy Bahama is so fabulous! I decided I had to have this Poncho that is on sale today. Not sure how long it will be on sale. All these designer jeans are on sale and that’s a great way to see if you like them without spending on full price.

I’m linking the Echo Dot, Google Home Minis (we have one or the other in every room in the house) and the Thermostats we use in all our homes. These thermostats interact with my Echo Dots and are just amazing! I use the Echo Dots and my husband uses the Google Home Minis. I am an Apple user and he prefers Androids. They all play our music, answer all our questions, run thermostats, lights, etc. We haven’t even begun to use all the options available but is it fun to learn something new each day!

Overalls

overalls 12.JPG

Fun with

overalls

The Scoop

Bare with me while I have a little fun with fashion. I have been wanting a pair of overalls now for about a year. I used to wear them and found them to be comfortable. I wanted a pair that was fit (not too baggy), had something distinctive about them and were cropped. This pair met all my requirements. I wish I would have sized down one more size but these will be fine. I can see so many ways to style them all through spring and summer.

My Look

This is a look I would wear hanging around the house, or exploring festivals or flea markets. I wore my overalls with a white tee and styled them with two different shoes, a pair of casual heels and a pair of platform sneakers. I carried my orange cross body bag to finish the look.

Arizona Vibes

The Scoop

I’v been in Arizona for a week now and starting to get into a groove. It has been hectic, both my dogs got sick and it took some work to get the condo in shape. The weather has been record breaking cold but still warmer than Idaho. We have worked in a few hikes and I have started running more consistently. The dogs are all better now and today will be in the upper 60s so I see fun in my near future!

Here are some fabulous New Takes on an old trend!

So many sales on OTKs right now. I am drooling over the first pair. I love that the heel is brown! It’s such a fabulous contrast!

Give me all the orange bags! I have more than my share of orange bags but these are so closet worthy!

I have bralettes in so many colors and wear them almost daily.

_ Albert Einstein

My Look

I have to say I am so bored with fashion right now. I have been for most of the year but winter fashion holds very little intrigue for me. I am not sure if I am changing or if the fashion world is in a rut but I am leaning more toward sweat pants and sweat shirts these days. I’m trying to live by the words of Albert Einstein by keeping the fun in fashion and maybe that will help me over my hump!

One thing fun about only being here in Arizona for a few months each year is everything I leave in my closet feels new again. I didn’t remember leaving the pieces of this look here but thought it created a nice sort of Arizona vibe. My top is a thrift shop find, a Michael Kors brand. It is sheer and has a tie at the neck and buttons up the front. I wore a black lace bralette underneath. I wore it with dark blue leggings and these fun OTK boots. To top it off my third piece was this fun orange bag. It is my favorite bag right now because of the color and the over the shoulder style which makes it perfect for roaming around town exploring the beautiful city of Phoenix.

day in the mountains

the scoop

This is my last post for the year! I am taking the rest of December to celebrate the holidays with my family and friends. I also have to get us packed and ready to head to Arizona for a few months. I have so much to do and am really excited. I’ve learned to prioritize this blog and put it away when I have more important things to do. So for now I’ll sign off and see you next year!

I really find this is my favorite way to follow influencers.

ugg 8JPG.JPG

my look

The is one of my favorite outfits for when I am having a quiet day at home. I love to be comfy and warm while the snow is flying outside. I got these lounge pants and thermal tee at Walmart and love them so much I got them in several colors. I got my lace bralette and Ugg slippers at Costco last year. If you watch Costco they may get these slippers in again this year. They also have Ugg dupes that are really nice.

end of year projects

I have a lot of little things I like to do to tidy up my life at the end of a year. One is to clean out my closet. I began that process this week. Anything I haven’t worn or used this year is neatly packed up and taken to the consignment store or Good Will. It feels so good to get rid of clutter and share things with others that might like them for a while. I am even getting rid of a bunch of handbags that I thought I would never let go. But they just sit in their covers in the closet so its time to find them a new home. I am loving all the extra space I am seeing.

Free People Meets Ugg in Le Boutique

free people 13.JPG

le Boutique . . .

the scoop

I have a little room in my home that was going to be an office. It has french doors and is perfectly square with one big window. It is only 8’ by 8’ so I decided to make it le boutique. I set it up like a little store with a big mirror in the corner with stainless hanging racks and stainless shelves around the room. I need to change out the light fixture but otherwise it is the perfect inspiration room for a blogger. I put all my new and favorite things in this room and plan outfits for blog posts. One day I would like to do little videos showing my fashion favorites. As soon as I get the lighting right I’ll show you more.

My fair isle sweater is by Free People and old. I have it in cream too because I love the coziness and look of an over sized fair isle sweater. I just got these fabulous Ugg hiking boots and thought they would make a cute outfit with the sweater. As usual I bounced around my house like Tigger trying to find good lighting for pictures. I got one outside but it was too dark and I wasn’t staying outside for more since it was only 16 degrees. I wore an old pair of skinny jeans and this look was complete. My only jewelry was silver big hoop earrings.

My Christmas Present, Designer Tree & Blush Style

pink 4.JPG

All I want for

Christmas . . .

the scoop

A lot is going on here in this post but I have a lot to share as you can see in my too long title. My husband got me my Christmas present early because he is sweet. Also because it was something I have been wanting for a while and felt like I needed right now to keep me motivated in my fitness endeavors.

So what did he get me? An Apple watch, the newest series with the sport band (series 4). I never got on the Fitbit wagon because I was always happy with just carrying my phone when I ran. I don’t buy a new phone each year I am still using the iPhone 6 Plus going on four years now and it still works perfectly. But recently my walking partner showed me her Apple watch and I started researching and thought this is something that would be so useful for me. No carrying a big phone while working out. And gang, it is so pretty! I do so many things with it and have only had it a few days.

It works with the running app I have had for many years (RunKeeper) where I have tracked 1,559 miles of running, it plays my music that I have collected on my iPhone since 2005 (iTunes) and it is a phone so I can take and make phone calls right from my wrist. This is heaven for me since it seems I get the most calls while making dinner.

It has a breathing app that reminds me to stop and take 60 seconds to focus on breathing. It gently taps my wrist as I breath in and out. It has the nutrition tracker that I have used for several years (MyFitnessPal) and I can even take and send text messages easier than on my phone.

Well the list goes on, it tracks my heart rate, will call help if I fall and don’t respond, gives me the weather and more. I would say if you are on the fence, get off! It’s an investment that is worth the money.

Linking Apple watch options. The first one is mine. I love the bands on these others too. You can pick these up at Costco last I looked but they were selling out fast.

pink 2.JPG

designer tree

One Saturday night a few weeks ago I was bored. I was having a glass of wine and watching YouTube videos of how to decorate a designer tree. Well I decided I was going to do my own. I pulled out all my old stuff bought new ribbon and a few stems from Michael’s and a designer tree was born. I am so in love with it too.

I went with a red and white theme. I wish I would have added more lights and will do so next year. For big ornaments I used some of the things I normally would hang on walls, doors or something like that. I also used our Christmas Stockings as ornaments. The pictures don’t show how really pretty it turned out.

I cut the 2.5 inch ribbon in strips of about 1.5 or 2 ft, and then tucked them up in the tree in a random pattern. I stuck the stems up in the top in place of a tree topper.

Linking the Ribbon and Stems I got for my tree this year. Everything else was old.

Ugg Style

ugg

Boots

the scoop

I have two pairs of Uggs and a third on the way. One pair of slippers and these fabulous snow boots and a pair I just ordered on sale that are perfect for everyday in cooler weather. I love me some Ugg! With this brand I have to be selective because I don’t love all the styles but when I find a style I like I really like them a lot! I always get them when they are on sale and they are super high quality so you get your money’s worth in wear over the years.

my look

These boots look good with so many things but I decided to wear them with leggings. I went with a black column which I say, when in doubt, start with a column. You all know what I mean by a column. You wear a top and pants in the same color creating a column type of look. From there you build and create so many fun looks. I added these boots and a vest in a black and white almost hounds tooth design. For more warmth I topped it off with a beanie.

Column

just a pair of black leggings with a black tee.

create you own look

I’ll start with the boots. I got mine on sale a while back and adore them. The second pair I am linking I just ordered and are 33% off. These styles are really trending right now. I’m linking other options too.

complete your look

I am loving vests this season. They are a great third piece for any outfit. See more about the third piece here. I love them to be just a little fitted to accentuate the waist. You can get these for fabulous prices at Ross, Marshals, TJMax, Target, etc.

To create a column (see more about column dressing here and here) try basic black leggings and tees. I’m linking my exact tee. It comes in many colors and I wear it in black or white several times a week. My favorite leggins are Zella and I’m linking them also. I prefer the shorter ones. See more outfits with leggings here (in leather) here and here. And don’t forget to have fun with beanies! I have a few of theses linked and love them. See how I wear them here, here and here.

Koepʼs final installment in The Newirth Mythology Trilogy brings a psychologist face to face with his greatest fear: madness. On the other side of the world, a professor of mythology struggles to interpret a sudden shift in the historical timeline, the mysterious discovery of the ruins of an ancient city and the anomalous nature of Locheʼs writing. No Snow

yet . . .

the scoop

Bet you can’t guess where we’ve been. Yep, back in the mountains. We spent a few days there and I got lots of pictures. It was cold but not much snow. Hardly any really! I imagine that will change any day now. I am ready for a little of the white stuff actually.

Right now I have a fire starting in the fireplace and am watching three little deer munch on the grass in the back yard. Such a country life feel!

my look

I decided that since my days of dresses in this weather are almost done for this year I better put one on. This dress is a fabulous sweatshirt dress with a hood and a tulip hem. Not really stylish but oh so cozy. I wanted outdoor pictures so I put on a pair of fun winter boots and headed out. This is how you dress in a dress in the mountains! There is something cozy about a snuggly dress to hang around inside when winter is howling outside.

  • I have to start getting the house prepped for Thanksgiving dinner.

  • I haven’t made a turkey for a few yeas so that will be a challenge. And I love a challenge!

  • I am taking back little pine trees from our land to put in my pots on the front porch. I think they will be so cute and bring some of the beautiful pine scent to our home.

Five Years Of Blogging

A Blog

Birthday . . .

the scoop

I feel like I gave birth to my blog. I spent months preparing for it and my first post was a little painful to publish. I had no clue what I was doing. I just wanted to pour my creative energy into something and a blog seemed harmless enough. I always loved graphic arts and designing a blog was something I wanted to learn.

Like most bloggers report you don’t expect anyone to actually see your blog and for a long time I don’t think anyone did. I didn’t try to promote it because I hadn’t found my space or stride yet. Starting on November 13 of 2013 I posted irregularly and sparsely for about three years.

In the fall of 2016 I decided to take it more seriously and that is when I really started enjoying the full blogging experience. In February of 2017 I joined up with the Fierce 50 ladies and made so many blogger friends and really expanded the scope of my blog through collaborations and connecting.

I tried monetizing my blog for a while but it just seemed to take the fun out of it so I stopped. Now what little I earn is just an organic result of doing what I love. Telling a story through pictures and thoughts. Representing the mature women in the great big cyber world.

my look

The best part of blogging for me is the creativity it brings out in me when it comes to how I dress. I really think about what I put together in an outfit and learn what I like and what works for me. I love that this process is ever changing as I am.

This look is one I am most comfortable in. Very casual with a little edge. I’m wearing skinny jeans, a long sleeve white tee and cozy cardigan with leather patch elbows. Boots that just reach my knees are the perfect shoe for me in that they really finish my look and aren’t too fussy. I added my oldest and favorite statement necklace and this look was complete.

What’s Next?

I have thought a lot over the last few months about what to do with my blog and nothing earth shattering has come to mind. I am playing around with YouTube some and can see adding it to my blog for more variety. I have a good friend (found through blogging) and we are planning a YouTube channel where we talk makeup, skin care and issues in general for the over 50 crowd. We are having a really good time with it. I just have to learn a new skill which is editing video. I can do it; it will just take a little time. Everything regarding my blog has been self taught so a new challenge will be fun.

Note: This weekend my husband fixed all those cords hanging down by the TV so you can’t see them anymore. They were driving me crazy but he wanted to wait to make sure we liked the TV there first.

All of my stuff is old but I found similar items. I found the same jeans in a few different shades of blue and same tee that I am liking so much I got it in multiples and wear them almost every day. My Sam Edelman boots are sold out but I found the same brand in a knee high that are cute too, so linking them.

I went and did another search for knee high boots because I think they are so fabulous. Linking what I found.

Peace!

Mixing Colors

the scoop

I am such a fan of color. I like a nice neutral look but color makes my heart sing. And what better time than fall to mix things up with vibrant colors. So in this look I mixed oxblood and mustard!

my look

I’m wearing a leather jacket in oxblood that I got from ASOS several years ago. It is probably my favorite leather jacket ever. My top is old too with a mock turtleneck and slightly belled sleeves from Nordstrom. Jeans are my all time favorite flares from Express and booties are so old I can’t remember where they came from. My bag is one you see me carry all the time, an investment piece that was worth it. It is Claire V.

  • Today is a full on cool fall day with a high of 58. Rainy in the AM and then cloudy. Not too bad for my taste.

  • I’m meeting a friend for coffee we are planning a YouTube video. She is a make up expert and will be showing me how to apply eye shadow.

  • We had our gutters replaced yesterday. Just so you know. Ha ha!

  • My thoughts are turning toward the weekend.
