Welcome Back To My Mountain Life

The Scoop

By the time you read this post I will be leaving Arizona after an eight-week visit and be on my way back to our mountain home. We had to cut our trip short because we have so much snow back there that some of our huge pine trees have fallen across our drive and down the sidewalk to our house. Too close for comfort and we are afraid one might fall and hit the house. And all of our security cameras are out except one that is hanging upside down. I think it has been a wild winter up there while we were gone. At any rate we are excited to get back, check on things, sit by a fire and view the beautiful winter wonderland.

Needless to say I will be out of pocket for a week or so. I was able to get posts up for the rest of this week and I have been playing around with the design of the blog, so I hope you enjoy that. Check out the main page and the blog pages to see all the new elements I have added. I am trying to make it a little more interesting. and fun!

I really hope you all are having a wonderful winter so far! I will be back with part three of my fitness series of posts as soon as I can along with more fashion, life and style for us over 50 ladies.

My Look

These pictures are from last year. I remember is was fun to get out and play in the snow and share some of my outdoor looks. I am wearing a red coat, black leggings, fun snow boots and a warm cap. No big deal but I loved the bright red in the winter outdoors. I remember I had a red nose too by the end of the shoot!

No Snow

yet . . .

the scoop

Bet you can’t guess where we’ve been. Yep, back in the mountains. We spent a few days there and I got lots of pictures. It was cold but not much snow. Hardly any really! I imagine that will change any day now. I am ready for a little of the white stuff actually.

Right now I have a fire starting in the fireplace and am watching three little deer munch on the grass in the back yard. Such a country life feel!

my look

I decided that since my days of dresses in this weather are almost done for this year I better put one on. This dress is a fabulous sweatshirt dress with a hood and a tulip hem. Not really stylish but oh so cozy. I wanted outdoor pictures so I put on a pair of fun winter boots and headed out. This is how you dress in a dress in the mountains! There is something cozy about a snuggly dress to hang around inside when winter is howling outside.

  • By the time you read this post we will be heading down the mountain.

  • I have to start getting the house prepped for Thanksgiving dinner.

  • I haven’t made a turkey for a few yeas so that will be a challenge. And I love a challenge!

  • I am taking back little pine trees from our land to put in my pots on the front porch. I think they will be so cute and bring some of the beautiful pine scent to our home.

the scoop

There's not a lot you can say about dressing for the cold mountain weather. The last week has on hit about 20 degrees for a high if we were lucky. The point is if you are going outside, it is all about function. I try my best to put a little pizzazz into it but what are you going to do? Luckily, staying warm is a lot more fashionable than it used to be, with great puffer coats and adorable boots. And I am a big fan of beanies of all colors and styles.

the outfit

Here, I am wearing a puffer coast that is warm but not too bulky or heavy. I really love this coat! It is a dark navy color which is a nice change from black. It also comes in olive. The faux fur on the hood is removable. It has lots of fun pockets and works great with taller boots so you are not over powered by coat and boots.

Before Things Get Too Deep

snow 1.jpg

the scoop

I am sitting on the bed in a hotel in Nevada as I write this post. The elevation here is about 7000 feet so up high but it is nearly 60 degrees with no snow. A little unusual for this time of year. Usually when I travel through here this time of the year it is very cold with lots of blowing snow. Kind of treacherous really. I'll take it the way it is today!

my outfit

Since I am on the road still, heading back home to Idaho I have been using some of my favorite pictures from this time last year. I love this cozy look with a light cream colored down coat, a cream beanie with a light pink pom pom, a light pink long tee and warm stylish snow boots. My favorite thing to wear with these sort of bulky boots are heavy weight black leggings. They keep me warm and balance out the rest of the look.

Welcome To My Mountain Life

red 1.jpg

the scoop

By the time you read this post I will have left Arizona after a four-week visit and be back in my mountain home. We don't have a lot of snow right now which is unusual but we all know now that unusual in the usual anymore. We have enough that it is just right as far as I'm concerned. I can still get outside to walk and get around.

We will be really busy this week preparing for our annual Christmas party. It is always so fun that we look forward to it. So far we have 40 RSVP, we have a piano player coming to play our piano and lots of good food and drinks will  be served. I am thinking about making room for dancing which will be fun too. My tree is up but is artificial (I had to use artificial because of the timing)so to add a scent of pine, we go out and get pine boughs from our trees and I make sprays with lots of ribbon and hang them around the house for an added festive touch. We will have our fireplace burning and it will be cozy and comfortable for everyone. I will try to get pictures when everything is ready and share them soon!

Facing My Truth

MY OUTFIT

Well luvs, its time for me to face the truth. Winter has full on arrived. We had a little snow a week or so ago, but it warmed up and melted and everything was still green. But over the weekend in started snowing and it snowed so fast and hard that it knocked our power out for a few hours. I'm writing this on Saturday, a sunny but cold day (high 33) knowing that tomorrow we are getting more snow. Temperatures are going to remain cold so this snow will be here until spring.

So I'm going with it and pulling out the boots. I have lots of snow boots for here in the mountains, one for each day of the week! ha ha! This is a cute light colored pair so I wore them with white jeans and a fun little jacket. Cozy and fun is how this outfit turned out. I took a few pictures outside but my hands starting getting so cold I was driven inside near the fire.

WHAT TO DO

I love living in the mountains and the snow but only for a bit. So what do I do? Well having lived in Arizona for many years I know how nice the weather is in the winter and so we pack up and head south. I guess we are snowbirds! And that's ok because I can hike mountains, run outside and not freeze my buns off. We will be back here for our annual Christmas party that we host and a few weeks more of winter before we head back south until spring. I am so excited for this winter and plan to enjoy were I am, when I'm there! As for Christmas day, I will be hiking a mountain and maybe toasting the holiday with a little eggnog.

Thanks for stopping by!

Peace!
