Summer Color

Summer

color.

the scoop

There are certain colors that feel like summer to me and turquoise is one of those colors. I don't have lot of this color in my closet but the few pieces I have stand the test of time and always are perfect for a summer day.

Speaking of summer it is in full swing here in the mountains. Our days are in the upper 80s and nights in the mid 50s. Perfect temperatures only marred by the fires all over the west including here in Idaho. We couldn't drive down to the city using our normal route today due to fires shutting down the highway. We're hoping they open up by tonight so we can go down. These fires are normal for this time of year in Idaho but they are making our air smokey which can irritate the eyes and throat. But nothing can dull the beauty of this time of  year in my eyes. We're certainly hoping for a short fire season this year for everyone being effected.

We're going down to the city for the weekend for a furniture delivery to the house and to check out the fabulous Farmer's Market down town. We are also going to one of the local orchards for peaches, they are just coming into season. Normally I would be making jams with them but this year I am so busy I may not tackle that job.

Summer Chic

all black 1.JPG

the scoop

I love summer fashion but I think options are limited when it comes to variety. Other seasons give you more of an opportunity to layer which provides endless options and creativity. But I must admit putting together an outfit for an evening out is a lot of fun when you don't have to think about keeping warm. And I think a monochromatic look is so chic for summer. All black or all white just always works.

Linking exact jeans, shoes and top (limited sizes and colors) and a couple of similar tops and fun bags for summer.

my look

This top covers a lot but yet it doesn't. The sleeves are sheer so not at all too warm for evenings and baring the shoulders is also a comfortable way to keep cool. This top is great because it is nicely secured around the neck. You don't even think about it falling or being too revealing. I decided to wear it with cropped black denim for a chic look. I had packed most of my belts to move to our other house so had to use this silver metal belt which I ended up actually liking. Nothing makes black pop more than tan shoes and bags so there you have it. A complete look. I added colorful earrings for fun. It wasn't planned but red toes and white nails added even more interest to this look.

Bahama Mama

the scoop

Every once in a while I love to stop by our local thrift shops and pick out a complete outfit. Just to see if I can do it. And I always seem to find at least one treasure. On this trip I found two! First, I found the top. It is a100% pure silk, Tommy Bahama brand and my size exactly! Win! I thought to myself, but what would I wear it with? I moseyed on over to the skirt rack and low and behold this skirt was singing a sweet tune to get my attention. Crazy because it looked to be just my size also. I had never heard of the brand but it seemed well made. The seams were straight, stitching was tight and even and for being preused it seemed in perfect condition. Have you ever heard of the brand Bubblegum? I looked it up and it was a really popular brand in the 80s. I guess I totally missed that, well being busy working, going to school and raising two sons. But better late than never, right?

and something else

This is a little different topic but I want to let you know that I have closed several of my social media accounts. I took a lot of time to consider this move and the effects it will have to my blog but at the end of the day I don't like these platforms and the things they represent. I am still on Instagram (not sure how long), Pinterest (which I still love) and YouTube (considering future use of this platform). Anyway you will no longer find me on Facebook, Twitter or Google+ so if you want to easily keep in touch sign up for my updates or follow me on Bloglovin.

Meant To Be

my look

The minute I picked up the skirt I could envision it with the top so I handed them to my husband to pay for them and literally skipped out the door! And my mind's eye was correct. It was the cutest look ever. The skirt has slits to the knees on both sides and I had been wanting a denim skirt all spring but wasn't finding something unique. Silly me, a couple of years ago I got rid of all my denim skirts thinking I was too old to wear them. But all's well that ends well. To complete my look I wore my new favorite pair of tan wedges and carried my Ark bag. For jewelry I wore my Tucknuck tassel earrings. My biggest fan, gave me the two paws up.

They're Baaaack

The pants

that won't go away

the scoop

Remember last year when these pants were everywhere? I do, and earlier this spring I had them out again. Sorry about the quality of these pictures but things are torn up around here with working on redecorating the deck and media room so I had to dig back to pictures I hadn't planned on ever using.  Ha Ha. This outfit really was cute though, take my word for it.

The first pair linked are my exact pants, then I linked some others that are fun!

White shirts are basics we all need and have in our closets!

Camo with bright white

I like the contrast.

my look

These pants are so comfortable and have fun detail. The zippers at the ankles are so fun to zip up or unzip for different looks. A white top seemed like a nice contrast that would add interest. The tan wedges that are basically my everday shoe seemed just right. I love back packs and I have had this one for several years. It is a canvas material and goes with almost everything casual. For a third piece I added a denim jacket and my look was complete.

I love a good canvas backpack for summer. Here are some fun options!

Another summer basic? Wedges. The wooden ones have been on my wish list for a while.

Body Con?

How I wear

A Body Con Dress

The Scoop

I love this dress! I know it is a body con dress and I should be more self-conscious about my body but I'm not. I used to be very worried about what others think but one of the great things in life is when you reach the point of doing what you want, not what you think others want of you.

Why do I love this dress? Because it is extremely comfortable. It's like a comfy tee shirt. It has a great cut and ruching that finds your best points and flatters them. I have seen so many bloggers wearing this dress and they all look amazing, confident and comfortable. Call me major "influenced!" Ha Ha!

I have this dress in this fabulous blue and in black. I will be wearing it with sneakers and flat sandals this summer. I can switch out the jacket with different styles (think my white blazer) and cardigans. You can pull it up or down to the length that fits your personal preference too. It is a very versatile dress.

my outfit

I wore a white distressed denim jacket with this almost denim blue-colored dress. For shoes I wore a pair of tan wedge sandals and I carried my leopard bag. I wore colorful earrings and a silver bracelet for jewelry. I really think the options for styling this dress are endless.

Linking exact dress, my color is Navy Night Hthr (I sized up to M but would have been fine with the S), exact distressed white jacket ( I wish I would have sized down to an XS, the S is a little big in shoulders) and exact wedges (TTS) my bag is old but I have the Ark bag and is looks fabulous with this look too. Linking my exact authentic Ark bag in large.

This was my date night look!

Husband Approved!

coming soon

I just wanted to let you know some posts I am working on.

  1. I am completely redecorating my deck and am so excited. I have had the same old wood furniture for ten plus years and it was looking pretty shabby and not at all chic. I oiled our deck over the weekend and my new furniture is being delivered on Monday. I hope to share it with you later this week. That is if it quits raining!

  2. I got more done with my hair. I went several inches shorter and added tons of highlights for summer. I can't wait to show you the difference!

  3. Lastly I am working on a fitness post to update you on my successes and failures with the boot camp I am in. I just finished week three and have three more to go. Mixed thoughts on it.

I loved this look so much that I got the dress in black, the pink jacket that is linked and the wedges that are linked. I have the linked Ark Bag and use it all the time! This will be another fun look for me.

Here I've linked a similar dress that is less body con, a jacket that is not distressed, wedges and bag that I am totally obsessed with.  Just waiting for them to go on sale!

Thanks for stopping by Gang!
