The Scoop

Hey gang! I was able to get in a couple of shoots this week so I thought I would do a post and update you on life lately. We have transitioned to our mountain home for the summer and with that came tons of work getting the house opened and ready for us, our fur babies and all the visitors we have in the summer. We still have a tree down in the front that fell over the winter and lots of other home care things to do but we are up and running.

It is getting hot down in the city reaching about 90 now so it is good to be where it is cool with the nights in the 50s and days in the 70s. We are seeing lots of deer and other creatures including a bear ( see pictures below) that walked right up to our front door before meandering on his way. The dogs are finding all sorts of stinky things to roll in and life in the summer is on!

My Look

I was looking for inspiration online recently and saw a picture of a lady wearing the new straight leg style jeans (i.e. mom jeans), an over sized black button down shirt and black heel. I loved the simplicity of the look so went to my closet to see if I could replicate.

I only have some of my clothes here, most I left in the city house but I did have a navy blue button down, my latest jeans acquisition of over sized, high waist, straight and cropped legs (mom jeans). That’s a mouthful. I realize now they are too big but I think I will try to shrink them some. But I can say they are comfy. I had these cute navy wedge sandals and my thrifted straw bag. Please forgive my hair. I thought I could get one more day out of it but not really! Ha!

Flowers

I just filled our flower pots with Marigolds again this year. They keep the bugs away and bloom until frost so I like the low maintenance. We have lilacs, peony’s, lilies and so many wild flowers growing in and around the place that I don’t feel the need to plant much more. We have strawberries, gooseberries and rhubarb if we can beat the bears to them.

Accessories

I’m wearing over sized sunglasses that remind me of the sunglasses I wore in my teens and twenties that were so popular. The 70s and 80s era! My necklace is a couple of years old, bought at a local boutique called Mountain Monkey Business. It is such a fun clothing shop and local here in the mountains. My bracelet is old and adds some color and whimsy.

I’m linking my same sunglasses along with others that I have recently bought. They all have that retro vibe. Also linking several other fun things I have recently gotten from amazon and love! The yellow top has not arrived yet but it looks so cute and summery.

Create Your Own Look

I’m linking my exact jeans. They are the old style fabric that does not stretch which I love. They button up which I also love. The hem is too fun. I just wish I had not sized up because they are too big. So if you order I would say they are tts. I’m linking options for a black top and shoes and blue top with crazy cute navy blue shoes and then a short sleeved option with tan shoes which I really want.

Bear Visitors

The other evening I was walking through the house and I saw a bear walking right under the windows toward our front door. By the time I got my phone to take a picture he was on his way, nothing to see here I guess! It’s always amazing to see the wildlife here and we have seen a lot!

Styling My Boot Cut Jeans

Boot cut jeans

never go out of style in my opinion. And they look good on everyone. Also they are the easiest to dress up.

the scoop

As we all know, trends in jeans come and go. A style will be strong for years and then finally fade away. The one style that I have noticed never goes out of style is the boot cut. The pair I am wearing in this post is a few years old and just as fresh looking now as when I got them. They are from White House Black Market @WHBM . I loved them so much I got two pairs and wish I had bought more because I think they will wear out before they go out of style. I was able to find the exact ones to link up below. I may order them for a backup! Ha ha!

my look

When I want to look a little dressed up but still wear jeans, these are my go-to jeans. When styling this outfit I wanted a dressier top so I wore this light weight cream colored one. It is a tunic and long so I used my trick of tucking it into my belt loop. It defines my waist a little and controls all the extra fabric. I wore a pair of navy heels and carried a leopard bag. For jewelry I layered a couple of delicate necklaces, added hoop earrings and a watch. I was done and ready for a nice spring evening.

I'm linking exact top in my color and yellow, same jeans in light and dark wash and assorted sizes, and same shoes only in black rather than the blue that I have on. I think the jeans in the light wash with the yellow top and black heels would be so fantastic for summer and may have to get them ordered! I have had all these items for several years now and wear them over and over.

Here are some great boot cut jeans and tunic options for creating your own look!

Here are some fun leopard bags perfect for every season!

P.S. I got my hair cut and am having so much fun with it already! This graduated cut is my favorite of all the styles I have had over the years.

Peace!

NEW PINTEREST GROUP BOARD

I wanted to share with you a new group board on my Pinterest! I love Pinterest as many of us do but it seems as in many things, it is more represented by the young and fabulous in the fashion and style genre. I am moving to make a change and created a group board titled Style Wise. Check it out here. It was just created and needs some more inspiration so if you are a fashion and style blogger and would like to be a contributor let me know via northwestmountainliving@gmail.com. I would love to have more Style Wise women help me show brands and society our value and relevance!
