Welcome Back To My Mountain Life

The Scoop

By the time you read this post I will be leaving Arizona after an eight-week visit and be on my way back to our mountain home. We had to cut our trip short because we have so much snow back there that some of our huge pine trees have fallen across our drive and down the sidewalk to our house. Too close for comfort and we are afraid one might fall and hit the house. And all of our security cameras are out except one that is hanging upside down. I think it has been a wild winter up there while we were gone. At any rate we are excited to get back, check on things, sit by a fire and view the beautiful winter wonderland.

And So

Needless to say I will be out of pocket for a week or so. I was able to get posts up for the rest of this week and I have been playing around with the design of the blog, so I hope you enjoy that. Check out the main page and the blog pages to see all the new elements I have added. I am trying to make it a little more interesting. and fun!

I really hope you all are having a wonderful winter so far! I will be back with part three of my fitness series of posts as soon as I can along with more fashion, life and style for us over 50 ladies.

My Look

These pictures are from last year. I remember is was fun to get out and play in the snow and share some of my outdoor looks. I am wearing a red coat, black leggings, fun snow boots and a warm cap. No big deal but I loved the bright red in the winter outdoors. I remember I had a red nose too by the end of the shoot!

I wanted to let you know that I will only be sending out one newsletter a week from now on. I have been sending one out three times a week, each time a new post went live. I think I can put together a more interesting newsletter if I send out one each Sunday that is recap of the week. So stayed tuned for this week’s first edition of the weekly wrap-up newsletter. I hope you will sign up if you haven’t already. Have a wonderful rest of your week!

Summer Nights

Summer Nights

in the mountains

the scoop

We are on the border of mountain and pacific time so it stays daylight until 10 pm here at our mountain home. I wish it would get darker earlier so I could stay awake more often to look at the stars. The stars are brilliant and beautiful and they seem so close that you could reach out and touch them. Truly magical.

Linking my sweater (run large, wearing a S and wish I had gotten XS). Also linking fun summer options!

evening at home style

my look

Now that our weather has warmed up I am living in cut offs and big beachy sweaters. The sweaters are perfect for the chill that settles down around us in the evening. Daily highs now are in the 80s and lows in the 50s. These are DIY cut offs. I wore a lace bralette that is almost like a tank top and then an over sized summer sweater. If shoes are neccessary I wear a pair of mules that slip off and on easily. A colorful necklace complete my look.

I am knee deep in settling into our city house. Nothing reminds you of how old you are like moving! Ha ha. I am still doing the initial deep cleaning. We had a new bed delivered but other than that no furniture. I've have the kitchen just about set up though and the dinning room is next. I am taking my time with things and taking breaks in the mountains to cool off since it is super hot in the city right now. I am focusing on the journey!

Before Things Get Too Deep

the scoop

I am sitting on the bed in a hotel in Nevada as I write this post. The elevation here is about 7000 feet so up high but it is nearly 60 degrees with no snow. A little unusual for this time of year. Usually when I travel through here this time of the year it is very cold with lots of blowing snow. Kind of treacherous really. I'll take it the way it is today!

my outfit

Since I am on the road still, heading back home to Idaho I have been using some of my favorite pictures from this time last year. I love this cozy look with a light cream colored down coat, a cream beanie with a light pink pom pom, a light pink long tee and warm stylish snow boots. My favorite thing to wear with these sort of bulky boots are heavy weight black leggings. They keep me warm and balance out the rest of the look.

Welcome To My Mountain Life

the scoop

By the time you read this post I will have left Arizona after a four-week visit and be back in my mountain home. We don't have a lot of snow right now which is unusual but we all know now that unusual in the usual anymore. We have enough that it is just right as far as I'm concerned. I can still get outside to walk and get around.

We will be really busy this week preparing for our annual Christmas party. It is always so fun that we look forward to it. So far we have 40 RSVP, we have a piano player coming to play our piano and lots of good food and drinks will  be served. I am thinking about making room for dancing which will be fun too. My tree is up but is artificial (I had to use artificial because of the timing)so to add a scent of pine, we go out and get pine boughs from our trees and I make sprays with lots of ribbon and hang them around the house for an added festive touch. We will have our fireplace burning and it will be cozy and comfortable for everyone. I will try to get pictures when everything is ready and share them soon!

How I Style Pom Poms, Leather, Lace & Fringe

MY OUTFIT

The day I took these pictures I woke up to snow on the ground and it was still coming down. It looked like a full blown winter storm. Since it is about a month or more early for this kind of weather I wasn't that excited. To cheer myself up I decided to find something fun to wear.

In my last post I showed you I had ordered a pair of faux leather leggings, fun booties with pom poms and a beautiful cardigan with fringe. All 40% or more off. I wasn't sure about the sizing of my leggings but when I tried it all on I loved it. The leggings have a motto design on them giving them an edgy look. The booties are not high quality, thus the low price but for a trendy item I would rather not spend that much money. They are as cute as can be, comfortable and add so much fun to leggings. The cardigan was a total win purchase. It is quality, on sale and oh so cozy and pretty! Score! I wore a lace camisole that I have had for a few years, a hat and headed out into our first real snow of the year.

SNOW IN THE MOUNTIANS

We've had this home in the mountains since 2003. We used it for a vacation home until a few years ago when after the kids all left home we decided we preferred county life in fresh mountain air. So here we are. We sold our house in the valley last spring and make this home except for a couple of months a year when we go to AZ for a winter break.

I don't remember a year that we've had snow this early. We get snow earlier than a lot of the country but not this early. We live close to the base of a ski mountain which is about 3000 feet higher elevation and they get about double what we get. They got about six inches and we got between three and four inches. Luckily it is supposed to melt today and we will get a few days of fall like weather before its expected to snow again this coming weekend. So I am kicking back taking it in stride. Making lots of delicious soups and using my home gym to try to get enough exercise in my days. It's all good.

WINTER EXERCISE ROUTINE

Since winter arrived early and my days of getting out for trail runs are limited, I worked up a new fitness routine for the next few months. I start my days with a 25 minute yoga practice. Then on alternate days I am doing HIIT and easy runs. My HIIT program uses all weight bearing exercises so it fills my strength training goals. I am doing a 20 minute HIIT program now because I injure so easily but will work up to a 30 minute program.

I make sure to eat mostly a vegetarian diet these days, making many delicious soups and cutting out simple carbs like sugar, white breads, sweet desserts.  I do eat an egg for breakfast most days and I use chicken stock in soups. But as for eating a piece of meat, it is down to only a couple of times a week. I take supplements as I've talked about before (here). I also drink a protein drink after HIIT and running. I'll let you know how its all working as I see how I feel in a few weeks. I am always trying new things!
