Summer Nights

Summer Nights

in the mountains

the scoop

We are on the border of mountain and pacific time so it stays daylight until 10 pm here at our mountain home. I wish it would get darker earlier so I could stay awake more often to look at the stars. The stars are brilliant and beautiful and they seem so close that you could reach out and touch them. Truly magical.

Linking my sweater (run large, wearing a S and wish I had gotten XS). Also linking fun summer options!

Casual

evening at home style

my look

Now that our weather has warmed up I am living in cut offs and big beachy sweaters. The sweaters are perfect for the chill that settles down around us in the evening. Daily highs now are in the 80s and lows in the 50s. These are DIY cut offs. I wore a lace bralette that is almost like a tank top and then an over sized summer sweater. If shoes are neccessary I wear a pair of mules that slip off and on easily. A colorful necklace complete my look.

I am knee deep in settling into our city house. Nothing reminds you of how old you are like moving! Ha ha. I am still doing the initial deep cleaning. We had a new bed delivered but other than that no furniture. I've have the kitchen just about set up though and the dinning room is next. I am taking my time with things and taking breaks in the mountains to cool off since it is super hot in the city right now. I am focusing on the journey!

Woot Woot! Time To Get To Work!

Most

comfortable work attire

the scoop

Well all the house wheeling and dealing is done! We close in a couple of weeks and the planning, packing and organizing has begun. Two weeks is not a lot of time but I am an expert mover. We don't have to move that quickly but I don't let grass grow under my feet. I can do it all from the planning to heavy lifting. I pride myself on the ability to create an almost seamless move. I have moved a lot in my life and always love the challenge, the opportunities, and the unexpected.

more of the story

Our house here in the mountains will become our vacation home once again. We've had the house for 18 years and it was our vacation home for most of that time. Then we decided to stay here full time about five years ago but still had a house in the city until a year ago when we sold it. It was way too big for us and time to let it go. After a year of not having it we found we missed it and the convenience of having a place to stay when we wanted to go down to get a city fix so a smaller place would be ideal. And the rest is now almost history. We now have this fabulous place and I'm excited to get things in order. The great thing is we will still have our place in the mountains for when we need fresh air and quiet. Selling it will be down the road a few more years. My husband is never in too much of a hurry. Ha ha!

I'll share more as things progress but one of my favorite parts of this house is the outdoor living area. These are pictures provided by the last owners. There are two levels of patio with a built in bar area and a beautiful water fall as well as a rock fountain. There is even a zen area  to spend time in relaxing.

I'm never one to run

away from a challenge so I suit up for work!

my look

I am a worker bee. I love to be involved in all the buzz of a move. So I dress for the occasion. Recently I was looking at cut off shorts online and decided I had enough jeans that I could spare a couple for DIY cut offs. This is a favorite pair. They came from really baggy boyfriend jeans which I find to be the best for cut offs. I added a tee bought in the boys section at Costco last year, old Adidas sneakers and boom, I'm ready to rock and roll!

Ageless Style Link Up

My Monday post will be pushed back to Tuesday next week as I guest host the Ageless Style Link Up. I am so excited to participate in this month's theme, Keeping Cool In The Summer Heat. Not too difficult for me up in the mountains since most days are still in the upper 60s or low 70s. I am ready for some heat that's for sure!

They Call Me Mellow Yellow

when you know a hero

This is a last minute add in. I don't talk much about my immediate family, I respect their privacy and my blog is about frivolous things and not personal things. But I have to share this story. Today my youngest son called me and told me about something that had just happened.

He was driving on the highway in Kansas City where he lives and an older woman had made a move that angered a younger man. The man began trying to run her off the road and finally got in front of her and stopped her. My son pulled in behind her and watched as the man got out of his truck with a small knife. My son grabbed his big wooden umbrella and got out of his car and told the guy to get away. My son is big and strong and the guy stopped immediately and turned to run away but first stabbed the lady's tire. He got in his truck and did a u turn and took off. My son got in his car and followed him and got his license plate number and a picture of the car. Then he went back to the lady who was with her 12-year-old granddaughter and called the police. They came and he gave them all the information he had attained and made sure the lady and her grand daughter were okay before calling me.

I was so proud of my son and so scared for him. My heart was in my throat as I listened to his story. He was very brave and did the right thing. Too many people would have not stopped to help and he did. He is not stupid, he said he looked at the situation carefully and knew he could take the guy down in a heartbeat. He was furious that someone would try to hurt an older lady and a child. He said he could not stand by and let it happen. I am so proud of my son. He is my hero. He was a hero for someone he didn't even know. She was so grateful and shaken. He said she could barely write his name down. I feel so bad for her but happy that someone was there to help her. No one else will ever know this story but that is what being a hero is, helping others in trouble without thought to yourself. And I know a hero.

the scoop

Yellow has cast it's spell on me this spring. I have never been a fan of yellow. When I was a small child I got lots of ear infections and the medicine I was given was yellow. I still remember the taste and the trauma of being held down while warm ear drops where put in my ears. It was very upsetting to me and I never forgot it and every time I saw yellow the memories came back. And even now I recall those times but I am pretty much over blaming the color yellow. Ha ha!

Linking my top (limited sizing), and several other fabulous tops in yellows.

my look

This top is sort of a light mustard color and the minute I saw it, I liked it. The fact that it had the cold shoulder design and was in a sort of linen fabric made it even more appealing. I wore it with my DIY cut off shorts and my fabulous striped Seychelles mules that I got last year. The shorts are button fly Lucky Brand and very comfy. I plan to cut off a few more jeans this summer. I usually go to the thrift shops for jeans to cut off which is where I got these.

Linking several options for shorts and mules for creating your own look!
