Spring Fashion 2019

The Scoop

Wow March is already rolling down the highway at the speed of light! Can you believe Daylight Savings Time begins next Sunday, March 10th? I am loving the longer days and the warmer weather here in the city. But read on to see our house in the mountains barely peeking out from under all the snow. We spent the weekend up there and it was sunny and gorgeous but boy so much snow.

Today some of my kitchen appliances are being delivered and then the rest will be installed tomorrow. The existing appliances here at the house in the city are original to the house so around 19 years old. We replaced the refrigerator when we moved in last summer and now we are doing the stove, microwave and dishwasher. I picked out my new counter top and will order it today. I am hoping it wont take long to get installed. I know Quartz is all the rage. I was told by an expert that 90% of what they sell now is quartz. But I just don’t like it. So I am going with what I like and getting granite. It is also crazy because Quartz is more expensive than granite and its man made. Go figure.

I guess I am getting old, because I am over the open concept, I love rooms. I want real natural materials like stone and wood in the house and I love color. I read that although the all white kitchen is strong the new kitchens are trending toward color, natural elements and a bit of vintage vibe and that is totally me!

My Look

You know how what you are focused on at the moment is what you enjoy? Well I am focused on the house update so I am really going casual a lot. I mean, old jeans, tees and sweats style! Ha ha.

But we were out looking at landscaping ideas today so I pulled myself together somewhat. Everything is old. I am wearing white jeans by Jessica Simpson, a J. Crew top, a Free People cardigan, Steve Madden wedges and carrying an Ark bag. There’s no snow here in the city and it is sunny and in the upper 40s to low 50s. I am so loving it. Big hoop earrings were my only jewelry. I love these earrings so much I think I will add a few more to my collection this spring.

Snow In The Mountains

Below are pictures of our house in the mountains! You cannot see the front door at all. We’ve had this place since 2003 and I have never seen quite this much snow. You can see in some of the pictures the tree that fell down across our circle drive and landed right down our sidewalk to the front door. It’s a miracle it didn’t hit our garden shed or the house. We are at the bottom of a ski hill and it was reported to have gotten more than eleven feet of snow in the month of February alone. Argh!

Reminder

I am only sending out one newsletter a week from now on. Summer Chic

all black 1.JPG

the scoop

I love summer fashion but I think options are limited when it comes to variety. Other seasons give you more of an opportunity to layer which provides endless options and creativity. But I must admit putting together an outfit for an evening out is a lot of fun when you don't have to think about keeping warm. And I think a monochromatic look is so chic for summer. All black or all white just always works.

Linking exact jeans, shoes and top (limited sizes and colors) and a couple of similar tops and fun bags for summer.

my look

This top covers a lot but yet it doesn't. The sleeves are sheer so not at all too warm for evenings and baring the shoulders is also a comfortable way to keep cool. This top is great because it is nicely secured around the neck. You don't even think about it falling or being too revealing. I decided to wear it with cropped black denim for a chic look. I had packed most of my belts to move to our other house so had to use this silver metal belt which I ended up actually liking. Nothing makes black pop more than tan shoes and bags so there you have it. A complete look. I added colorful earrings for fun. It wasn't planned but red toes and white nails added even more interest to this look.

Bahama Mama

the scoop

Every once in a while I love to stop by our local thrift shops and pick out a complete outfit. Just to see if I can do it. And I always seem to find at least one treasure. On this trip I found two! First, I found the top. It is a100% pure silk, Tommy Bahama brand and my size exactly! Win! I thought to myself, but what would I wear it with? I moseyed on over to the skirt rack and low and behold this skirt was singing a sweet tune to get my attention. Crazy because it looked to be just my size also. I had never heard of the brand but it seemed well made. The seams were straight, stitching was tight and even and for being preused it seemed in perfect condition. Have you ever heard of the brand Bubblegum? I looked it up and it was a really popular brand in the 80s. I guess I totally missed that, well being busy working, going to school and raising two sons. But better late than never, right?

and something else

This is a little different topic but I want to let you know that I have closed several of my social media accounts. I took a lot of time to consider this move and the effects it will have to my blog but at the end of the day I don't like these platforms and the things they represent. I am still on Instagram (not sure how long), Pinterest (which I still love) and YouTube (considering future use of this platform). Anyway you will no longer find me on Facebook, Twitter or Google+ so if you want to easily keep in touch sign up for my updates or follow me on Bloglovin.

Meant To Be

my look

The minute I picked up the skirt I could envision it with the top so I handed them to my husband to pay for them and literally skipped out the door! And my mind's eye was correct. It was the cutest look ever. The skirt has slits to the knees on both sides and I had been wanting a denim skirt all spring but wasn't finding something unique. Silly me, a couple of years ago I got rid of all my denim skirts thinking I was too old to wear them. But all's well that ends well. To complete my look I wore my new favorite pair of tan wedges and carried my Ark bag. For jewelry I wore my Tucknuck tassel earrings. My biggest fan, gave me the two paws up.

Look Good Feel Good

Style Can Make You Smile

True that!

the scoop

I hear or read almost daily bloggers and readers saying that a certain outfit makes them feel good. And its true for me too. When I feel bad or low it is reflected in how I dress. Things just are off.  If I can find the right outfit sometimes it can change how I feel. Bright colors, comfortable fit, and a little trendiness splattered in can lift my spirits.

Obsessed with this fun summer tops . . .

Another thing that makes me feel better is to put a smile on my face. A smile is contagious, it is your best accessory, it is a signal that everything will be all right. As long as I can remember, people have commented that I am always smiling and I can't say why that is, only that it is how I connect with people. A smile goes a long way when putting others at ease. It's kind of like my personal hand shake.

Color Your world

with smiles

my look

I have had this top for a while but was waiting for the right occasion to wear it. This day was they day. The sun was shining and it was warm for our standards - in the upper 60s. I wanted my look to reflect the beauty and lightness of the day.

I wore this off shoulder festive top with my comfy flare jeans and tan mules. I carried my Ark bag and wore bright red tassel earrings along with a white watch and beaded bracelet to complete this look.

Details make a look  . . .

my hair

I got a hair cut a few weeks ago and my stylist took a lot of length off. She cut it in a graduated style and I love it. But it is still too long so I am going back this week to get a few more inches taken off. Same style just shorter. I love this style because I can just wash and go. These pictures show how my hair looks when I just wash it and let it air dry and do nothing else. It was part of my causal feel good look.

Style In The Mountains

THE OUTFIT

We are having one of the hottest weeks we've had all summer this week. This means our days of warm weather are almost over. You know the one last kick of the bucket thing. So I  pulled another tried and true cold shoulder top out of the closet and styled it. I wore skinny jeans, and sandals and carried my Ark bag. For jewelry I wore a new choker necklace that I bought at a local Art Fair last weekend. Jewelry styles are experiencing a little change and I am loving it. Chokers and layered delicate necklaces are so pretty and easy to wear.

LOCAL HAPPENINGS

We went to our local farmers market last Saturday and it was going strong with lots of local farms selling their crops. One sign caught my attention. It was the Hobbit Hill Farm and they had Himalayan Yak meant for sale stating it was mountain grown and grass alone. I've never had Yak meat before, have you? I'm not sure I've ever even see a Yak.

After the farmers market we went to a local art fair and I found the beautiful choker that I am wearing in this post. It can also  be wrapped and worn as a bracelet. I have been wanting a choker and finding a one of kind made locally was perfect. I like jewelry that holds a memory and this one will remind of the lovely day we had. We finished our morning by going to a little cafe that is at the back of the gas station. Yes, you heard me right, in the gas station. They have really good biscuits and gravy and are off the beaten path.

Casual Friday

The outfit

I'll admit that everyday is casual day for me now that I no longer have to go in to an office each day. I sometimes miss that part of working at the University. But most of the time I am grateful for my peaceful, slow pace lifestyle. This outfit is about the best of the best in my casual repertoire. Relaxed jeans, soft black shirt, tan mules that slide off easily and a nice bag on standby if I need to run an errand. In this post I am showing my outfit with a couple of different bags. I'm wearing a new layered necklace that I love and new really big hoop earrings. Both will be on heavy rotation this fall I am thinking.

Tassel and Tuck

THE OUTFIT

I have been putting tops and things I got early in the spring on major rotation for different looks. Summer is almost over here and I want to enjoy all the fun summer clothes in my closet. I wore this top in early spring here. I was wearing skinny jeans and for this post I am wearing the top with my beloved flares. I added my belt with a tassel, tan mules with the rope heels and carried my Ark bag. I layered some delicate necklaces and wore my signature silver hoop earrings for jewelry. I could wear this outfit everyday, I love it so much.

Too Much Goodness

THE OUTFIT

This outfit makes me smile. In a way it is kind of hokey but it also really reflects my personal style. I am totally comfortable in this outfit. The jeans are old. The top was recently bought on sale as were the fun platform shoes. My bag is so fun for summer. I have had this hat for a long time but I changed out the scarf in it to a red bandanna. It all looked so country girl. My new bar necklace has special meaning. It has Coco engraved on it with a little crystal chip. Coco is what my grandson calls me. He melts my heart every time he says, Coco.
