Spring Fashion 2019

The Scoop

Wow March is already rolling down the highway at the speed of light! Can you believe Daylight Savings Time begins next Sunday, March 10th? I am loving the longer days and the warmer weather here in the city. But read on to see our house in the mountains barely peeking out from under all the snow. We spent the weekend up there and it was sunny and gorgeous but boy so much snow.

Today some of my kitchen appliances are being delivered and then the rest will be installed tomorrow. The existing appliances here at the house in the city are original to the house so around 19 years old. We replaced the refrigerator when we moved in last summer and now we are doing the stove, microwave and dishwasher. I picked out my new counter top and will order it today. I am hoping it wont take long to get installed. I know Quartz is all the rage. I was told by an expert that 90% of what they sell now is quartz. But I just don’t like it. So I am going with what I like and getting granite. It is also crazy because Quartz is more expensive than granite and its man made. Go figure.

I guess I am getting old, because I am over the open concept, I love rooms. I want real natural materials like stone and wood in the house and I love color. I read that although the all white kitchen is strong the new kitchens are trending toward color, natural elements and a bit of vintage vibe and that is totally me!

My Look

You know how what you are focused on at the moment is what you enjoy? Well I am focused on the house update so I am really going casual a lot. I mean, old jeans, tees and sweats style! Ha ha.

But we were out looking at landscaping ideas today so I pulled myself together somewhat. Everything is old. I am wearing white jeans by Jessica Simpson, a J. Crew top, a Free People cardigan, Steve Madden wedges and carrying an Ark bag. There’s no snow here in the city and it is sunny and in the upper 40s to low 50s. I am so loving it. Big hoop earrings were my only jewelry. I love these earrings so much I think I will add a few more to my collection this spring.

Snow In The Mountains

Below are pictures of our house in the mountains! You cannot see the front door at all. We’ve had this place since 2003 and I have never seen quite this much snow. You can see in some of the pictures the tree that fell down across our circle drive and landed right down our sidewalk to the front door. It’s a miracle it didn’t hit our garden shed or the house. We are at the bottom of a ski hill and it was reported to have gotten more than eleven feet of snow in the month of February alone. Argh!

The Scoop

I'm on the prowl for spring fashion! And I think I am on to some really fun new things. I thought I would share what I am loving right now that will take me through spring and summer!

Most of these things were something I dabbled in last spring and summer but I am seeing them bumped up a little on the style scale. First, scarves.  I wear them around my neck, wrist, in my hair, around my waist and even tied on my bags. This year they have some fun shapes and sizes so I tied one on the handle of my bag for a fun twist. Second, platforms. I am going crazy over these platform sneakers. They are so cute with jeans, shorts, skirts, and dresses! Obsessed. The next thing I am embracing even more fully than before (if that can happen) is tunics (longer tops). They have such a casual relaxed vibe but with all the colors and styles they are a major staple for me.  You can wear them with the hem out, assorted tucks or even as a dress if they are long enough. Fill my closet please!

My Look

In this look I am wearing  a tunic that buttons half way down in neutral stripes. I did a front tuck with this look but sometimes I pull the hem through my belt loop on the side. This is a perfect anytime top. My jeans are Lucky Brand skinny cropped jeans, shoes are platform Steve Madden sneakers and I'm carrying a Tory Burch tote with a scarf from target wrapped around the handle.  You can see the care tag still on my scarf. For some reason I hate to cut those off but I think I will have to in this case. I'm wearing a white watch and Kendra Scott turquoise earrings to complete this look.

Bahama Mama

the scoop

Every once in a while I love to stop by our local thrift shops and pick out a complete outfit. Just to see if I can do it. And I always seem to find at least one treasure. On this trip I found two! First, I found the top. It is a100% pure silk, Tommy Bahama brand and my size exactly! Win! I thought to myself, but what would I wear it with? I moseyed on over to the skirt rack and low and behold this skirt was singing a sweet tune to get my attention. Crazy because it looked to be just my size also. I had never heard of the brand but it seemed well made. The seams were straight, stitching was tight and even and for being preused it seemed in perfect condition. Have you ever heard of the brand Bubblegum? I looked it up and it was a really popular brand in the 80s. I guess I totally missed that, well being busy working, going to school and raising two sons. But better late than never, right?

and something else

This is a little different topic but I want to let you know that I have closed several of my social media accounts. I took a lot of time to consider this move and the effects it will have to my blog but at the end of the day I don't like these platforms and the things they represent. I am still on Instagram (not sure how long), Pinterest (which I still love) and YouTube (considering future use of this platform). Anyway you will no longer find me on Facebook, Twitter or Google+ so if you want to easily keep in touch sign up for my updates or follow me on Bloglovin.

Meant To Be

my look

The minute I picked up the skirt I could envision it with the top so I handed them to my husband to pay for them and literally skipped out the door! And my mind's eye was correct. It was the cutest look ever. The skirt has slits to the knees on both sides and I had been wanting a denim skirt all spring but wasn't finding something unique. Silly me, a couple of years ago I got rid of all my denim skirts thinking I was too old to wear them. But all's well that ends well. To complete my look I wore my new favorite pair of tan wedges and carried my Ark bag. For jewelry I wore my Tucknuck tassel earrings. My biggest fan, gave me the two paws up.

Baggy Pants

Every once in a while . . .

I love my baggy pants!

the scoop

I have several pairs of linen pants fashioned in a relaxed or even baggy style. I like them big enough that they are almost falling off. Perfect for my fat days! You can see me wearing them here too.

Here's the link to my exact top and other fabulous tops along with linen pants.

my look

This outfit started out with the top. It is so cute and comfy with lots of fun details. It has tassels on the sleeves and I love how it is held up by the straps around my neck. They are adjustable so I can raise of lower if needed. It has a pretty peplum hem, is shorter, made of a soft silky fabric and it is lined. Love!  I wore it with my linen pants and a pair of leather flip flops for a casual fun outfit. Big hoop earrings and a straw clutch completed my look!

Trail Blazer

Spring is the perfect time for. . .

Blazers

the scoop

Today was just crazy! We had a squirrel come down our chimney and was inside the fireplace. I felt so bad because he was so scared and the dogs were barking and freaking out. So we put the dogs in the bedroom, and opened the double front doors and then the fireplace doors. Out he came, looked around, jumped up on the bar and looked out the window then turned around a hopped out the front door and straight up a tree. Then we saw two either large coyotes or wolves running across the back part of our house in the forest. We have heard neighbors say they have spotted wolves so we are not sure.  We have baby deer hanging out all around and are so worried about them. It's like the wild kingdom here right now!

Now on to the topic of blazers. I have been seeing blazers on everyone this spring. And then I was on Pinterest this week and I saw so many cute combinations I couldn't wait to see what I could pull together.  Our weather right now still requires something on your arms so a blazer is perfect. Luckily I have several in my closet.

my look

I am wearing a pair of dark skinny jeans that I sized up on for a relaxed look. They have a high waist and a dark wash and I love them. I am wearing a tee that is really too big but since the pants were loose I was able to get it all tucked in. It is a soft and pretty tee though and I love it. It will be great with shorts this summer. Next I added a white blazer, a tan belt and tan wedge sandals. I carried a leopard bag and wore silver hoop earrings to complete this look.

I'm linking similar items so you can create you own look! You will see my exact shoes and tee but the tee shows orange. You can get it in blue, orange and yellow. Size down though.

I know I need to plant flowers in my pots, but it still gets below freezing at night so I will have to wait a little longer. At least the snow is almost all gone! Glass half full!

My 2nd Most Worn Pants

More Of The Pixi Pants

This time in a leopard print!

the scoop

I can't seem to get enough of my Pixi pants! I wear them the most next to my jeans. They are so chic and comfortable and versatile! Just right for all seasons but especially spring and summer. On Wednesday I showed you my mustard colored pair and now I am styling my leopard ones. I will wear these with a cute black front tie tee and white tees this summer. I wear heels, flats and sneakers with them too.

my look

I got these pants last fall and decided to make them work for spring too. Read how I styled a mustard pair here. I added this amazing peplum tunic that was all the rage last summer. It is such a pretty top that I have it in five colors! It is easy on the pocket book too. I found it for you on sale and will link up below. There are several colors available. These pants are also available in multiple colors for spring. I carried my black bag and tied a scarf to it for a little more pizzazz! Platform sandals and big hoop earrings completed this look!

Dressing For Date Night

Date Night Look

For The Mountains

The Scoop

The sun is shinning in the mountains! Yay! To celebrate we went out to dinner. I wore what I call mountain casual style. Even though the sun is shinning for a few days the evenings are quite chilly. This called for my favorite leather jacket to keep me comfortable and stylish.

my look

I am wearing my 7 For All Mankind skinny jeans, Dolce Vita booties, a tunic length black tee  with a sharks high low hem and my leather jacket in the color oxblood. I carried my Clare V. clutch. This bag has been used more than almost any other bag for going out. It's not an everyday bag but it goes with everything it seems.

The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow

IMG_7195 (2).JPG

All I Wanna Do Is Have Some Fun

Until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard

Remember that Sheryl Crow song. It's been running through my mind the last few weeks because we have not had much sun. It came out for two minutes for this shoot and I had my cool shades ready to go!

Little by little though the snow is melting and I can at least get out in my boots for some outdoor photos.  When all the snow does finally melt it looks like a disaster zone from the harsh winter weather. It takes half the summer to get things back in order. And then it all starts over again.

I'm not complaining though. The beauty of this forest is like none I have ever experienced. It's not just the landscape, its the wild life, the scents in the air and the twinkle in the stars. I have never seen a stars shine brighter anywhere in my life. And they seem so close, I feel like I can reach out and touch them. It's also the quietness. Silence. Something my heart craves. I love to listen to silence. Have you ever heard silence?

Today, I put on my old Levi's, Hunter boots, over-sized tee and white distressed denim jacket and headed outside for a few pictures. I was actually warm, in the low 40s. But the lighting wasn't the best so I did what I could. I thought my white tassel earrings and white framed sunglasses were fun details for this look.

I'm linking exact jacket, tee and boots. My jeans are Levi's and almost exactly like the pair I linked up. And I also linked up similar sunglasses that are too fun!

IMG_7192 (2).JPG

I was able to clean off our front entry. We had wood stacked on the sides over the winter which left a mess and it was so nice to sweep it off. Next I will add pretty cushions since we sit out here a lot throughout the spring, summer and fall.

The snow melts first in circular forms around the trees. It's a scientific thing where the sun heats the snow and the roots absorb the heat and so you get large rings of bare earth around the trees even while there is a foot of snow everywhere else. Our driveway is clear due to the snow plow we have come all winter and the side walk is clear because we use a snow blower to keep it passable.

Columns For Spring Fashion

I am a column. . .

They say you are what you think. Or is that you are what you eat?

Oh well which ever, today's look is all about column dressing where I wear all one colored top and bottom and then add a third piece in a different color. This is one of my favorite ways to dress because it always looks nice and it takes very little thought. I plan to style a white column and maybe a colored column here over the next few weeks just to play around with it. I just got the cutest white denim jacket that I can't wait to style and I think it will be cute on a colored column.

For this look I am wearing 7 For All Mankind jeans with my DIY hem. I love this brand so much that I ordered a pair of black cropped raw hem for summer. I'm wearing a pretty sleeveless top that has a sheer overlay. I wish I had taken a closer picture of it although it is old it is a favorite. My third piece was a waffle knit cardigan in orange by Free People. Then I added my orange Tuckernuck earrings and tan wedge shoes. A neutral belt and tote completed this look.

Its still gloomy here

But I keep acting like it's full on spring. What else are you gonna do?

I am staying really busy with work and home projects and I even got away for a day at the spa with my girl friends. I am sure I am going wake up soon to the sun shinning bright!

I am linking some of the same and other similar items in case you want to create your own look.

Spring Fashion State Of Mind

It's all about positivity!

I know many of you are in the same boat with me. It's snowing and cold outside so I am using my will power to carry on as if it were spring in full bloom!

Over the weekend it was just me trying to ride out the storm. The winter storm in spring. So Saturday I spent the day organizing my closet, moving my spring and summer clothes front and center. It was a fun day and I got a ton of exercise since it was an all day thing of up and down the ladder to my upper closet, Kneeling and squatting down to lower shelves and drawers. You get the picture.

Sunday it was all about photo shoots. I picked out four outfits and three of them got the green light when I tried them on. I put so much on Instastories it was probably annoying but no one really sees them and it was good practice for me. Anyway, I got enough photos Sunday morning alone to get me through all this week's blog posts. Yay for that!

Before I knew it the snow quit and it started to lighten up and we think the sun may peek out tomorrow. Fingers and toes crossed because I am a little tired of running in the rain, sleet, snow, cloudy days. And that's another thought, I need to lose the weight I put on this winter and the weather is not helping. I think I may do another boot camp later this month. More on the soon.

This was my favorite look that I photographed on Sunday. This top is so killer cute. I am so happy I found it and it was 40% off when I got it which was just HELLO!  I am wearing a pair of DIY step hem jeans in white and my favorite wedge sandals. My Marc Fisher sandals are the most comfortable shoes I have. I love them so much that I have them in three styles. This pair has a light orange color which is a favorite color of mine so they go with almost everything I own. A tan belt, tan tote and my dark blue Baublebar earrrings completed this look.

The greatroom . . .

My favorite place in the house is our great room. But it is a decorating challenge to say the least. It has to be functional and comfortable and is due for an update. Mountain home styles are unique to say the least.

I almost always crop the heck out my pictures but recently decided to not do so much. It takes up time and affects the picture quality.  Soon I will be able to move outside more for picture taking and I can't wait. Meanwhile I am moving around my house and experimenting with the lighting and angles trying to learn more and provide better pictures. I'm a work in process! Ha Ha!

Here's a few so so cute tops you might like!

Bloopers!

I have so many photos like this where I am dropping something, tripping or doing something that looks silly. But it is all part of the fun of blogging!

I'm linking up some fun sandals and jeans for you just in case you want to create a spring state of mind look!

Thanks for stopping by gang!

Camo For Spring?

Camo for spring?

It's a thing! All you have to do is add some white to make it pop for the season!

I guess we see camo being worn for about every season. It's almost become a neutral. I think of it as something I wear in the fall the most. But I LOVE these pants so much and had to see how they would work for a spring look.

In this look I wore a my newest field jacket, a pair of wedge sandals and a bamboo bag.

Here are links to my exact look!

Adding white to my look

along with wedge sandals and bamboo bag gave these pants a real spring vibe.

For this look I switched out my jackets for a light weight duster and loved the way it turned out. These pants are so fun with the zipper detail. They have a little stretch so they are oh so comfy! I tried different earrings with each look and just cannot get enough of the Baublebar earrings from Target.

Thanks for Stopping by gang!

How I Dress For Spring In The Mountains

good golly it is cold here!

But I am in a spring state of mind! I've said it before but cardigans are my savior here in the mountains.

I wear cardigans all year long here in this climate. I have cardigans of every color, weight and size and I think they are the epitome of the "third piece." Changing the color changes the season, the mood, the comfort and the whole look.

For spring and summer I take a casual sleeveless or short sleeved knit dress and add a bright cardigan with a nice weight to it. If by some chance it warms up I can drop if off my shoulders or take it off.

For this look I showed you a couple of bag options that I love. For jewelry I wore a pair of my new earrings by Baublebar. And I have to tell you these wedges are amazing. Several years ago I bought a pair of wedges that are very similar (see here, here and here) not thinking they would be great quality because of the reasonable price. But I have worn them over and over. They are a staple in my closet for everyday wear. So when I saw this style in an updated version I snapped them up. LOVE!

If I want a more casual look!

I throw a cute sweatshirt over my dress. I swear it is more comfy than PJs!

For this look I wore a cropped sweatshirt by Calvin Klien. I changed my earrings out for white tassells by Baublebar and that was it.  Anther easy look for spring in the mountains.

Here are some fun options for creating your own look!

Change your kicks!

Yep that is what I did for this look. Changed into sneakers and grabbed a backpack. Boom!

The above pictures are kind of dark but they showed my mood in this comfy style. Happy! Good grief my ball needs some air! I about fell right off the thing!

As Always

Spring Style While Waiting For Spring Temperatures

Baby It's cold outside

So what's a girl to do? Well this girl is still going to add spring elements to her style.

White jeans are an any time of year item these days, but really are even more perfect for spring transitioning. For me they make it feel like spring even when it is still really chilly outside. Add a white tee, also a spring staple and some fun wedges and you have a complete spring look. Now warm it up with a cozy waffle knit sweater in a beautiful spring color and you have it all. Spring style while staying warm.

I'm linking up my earrings, jeans, tee and bag and a cute cardigan and wedges for this look!

Add fun Jewelry in vibrant colors

For me, my new assortment of colorful earrings are a staple for adding spring details to a look.

I thought I needed a bold anchor color for this look so wearing a belt that matches my shoes did that for me. My leopard clutch seemed just right to complete this look.

Here are some more fun options for creating your own look!

As always Gang, thank you for stopping by!

Peace!

Favorite Spring Designer

Johnny Was here!

Every spring the first things I want to style are my Johnny Was tops! As seen here, (the yellow again) here, (the white), here (the blue) and here (my favorite in the red).

I don't buy a lot of higher end clothing, but this is one brand that I have invested in a few times. These pieces are timeless and make me feel all spring and summery. They are good quality and covered in the most beautiful embroidery. I always choose brilliant colors like this yellow. I also have a red one, a navy one and a white top by this designer. This tunic is long sleeved but you can pull them up and button into three quarter length.  Johnny Was tops are light weight so perfect for the full spring and summer here in the mountains. They also pack  beautifully for vacations because they don't wrinkle much and when you hang them the few wrinkles there, just fall out.

Here are a few beautiful options for creating your own look.

The colors are so vibrant!

And the fabric is so soft and they are the perfect weight so they flow around your body without adding bulk.

I wore mine with my flares for that bohemian look that I love. I wore platform shoes because I am a huge fan of the height they give me while being so comfortable. I wore my turquoise Baublebar earrings to complete this look.

I got all my tops from the Johnny Was website but you can get them other places online. Here are some more beautiful options along with my jeans and shoes for you to check out.

As always thank you for stopping by!

Peace!

Hippity Hopin', Easter's On Its Way

Hippity Hoppin', Easter's On Its Way

So I'm going all Peter Cotton Tail as in white slacks.

Easter is a casual day for us. We usually celebrate with dinner and just hanging out. I was raised in a family that celebrated in a big way. Everyone dressing up for church and dinner. Many years my mom made all our dresses, hers and for three girls and the shirts for my dad and two brothers and all in matching fabric! She was a marvel! Still is! I remember Easter bonnets and going to granny's for a big ham dinner. What fun memories.

As my children grew up I hosted many of our Easters after my grandmother died and it was too much for mom. There were times I would have 30+ family at my home. I made a huge meal and set up a big hunt in the yard for all my kids, cousins, nieces and nephews. Still makes me smile to this day.

I'm linking up some fabulous tops in spring colors and styles and fresh white slacks for Easter and beyond!

Now that I live so far away

We often go to my husbands aunt's house with all his cousins and extended family (small group in comparison about 10 or so but the most wonderful people in the world) or we hang at home. Even his family is a good two hours away so I think this year, I will make a fabulous meal for two!

I think this will be my look for the day. White slacks and a colorful spring top. Simple and comfortable but fitting for the special occasion. These pants are by Sanctuary and I found them in a thrift shop in Phoenix. I love it when I find a treasure. The top was from Ross and the bag too I think. All of it was bought last year. The shoes are a Marshals purchase last spring.

I'm in love with all the spring shoes and bags available right now so linked up several for you to create your own look1

Thanks for stopping by gang!

Peace!
