Spring Fashion 2019

The Scoop

Wow March is already rolling down the highway at the speed of light! Can you believe Daylight Savings Time begins next Sunday, March 10th? I am loving the longer days and the warmer weather here in the city. But read on to see our house in the mountains barely peeking out from under all the snow. We spent the weekend up there and it was sunny and gorgeous but boy so much snow.

Today some of my kitchen appliances are being delivered and then the rest will be installed tomorrow. The existing appliances here at the house in the city are original to the house so around 19 years old. We replaced the refrigerator when we moved in last summer and now we are doing the stove, microwave and dishwasher. I picked out my new counter top and will order it today. I am hoping it wont take long to get installed. I know Quartz is all the rage. I was told by an expert that 90% of what they sell now is quartz. But I just don’t like it. So I am going with what I like and getting granite. It is also crazy because Quartz is more expensive than granite and its man made. Go figure.

I guess I am getting old, because I am over the open concept, I love rooms. I want real natural materials like stone and wood in the house and I love color. I read that although the all white kitchen is strong the new kitchens are trending toward color, natural elements and a bit of vintage vibe and that is totally me!

My Look

You know how what you are focused on at the moment is what you enjoy? Well I am focused on the house update so I am really going casual a lot. I mean, old jeans, tees and sweats style! Ha ha.

But we were out looking at landscaping ideas today so I pulled myself together somewhat. Everything is old. I am wearing white jeans by Jessica Simpson, a J. Crew top, a Free People cardigan, Steve Madden wedges and carrying an Ark bag. There’s no snow here in the city and it is sunny and in the upper 40s to low 50s. I am so loving it. Big hoop earrings were my only jewelry. I love these earrings so much I think I will add a few more to my collection this spring.

Snow In The Mountains

Below are pictures of our house in the mountains! You cannot see the front door at all. We’ve had this place since 2003 and I have never seen quite this much snow. You can see in some of the pictures the tree that fell down across our circle drive and landed right down our sidewalk to the front door. It’s a miracle it didn’t hit our garden shed or the house. We are at the bottom of a ski hill and it was reported to have gotten more than eleven feet of snow in the month of February alone. Argh!

Reminder

I am only sending out one newsletter a week from now on. It will be a recap of the week’s posts (new posts go out Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 1 PM MT) in case you missed them and I’ll also share books to read, articles I think are interesting, recipes I am trying, news on fitness, home decor, dogs and anything that is news of the week! The newsletter will also contain a personal letter addressed only to subscribers so I hope you will sign up and join our little community!

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Story Of The Traveling Pixi Pants

Pixi Pants for summer

My second most worn pants other than jeans!

the scoop

Last fall I saw these adorable Pixi pants at Old Navy and thought a pair in mustard and a pair in leopard would be perfect for early fall looks. And I was right I was able to put together pretty outfits with them (see leopard here).

Fast forward to spring and I am seeing these pants again only in fun spring colors. But I thought with the right top and shoes I could make these colors work for spring too. No need to buy more although I am tempted because these pants are so comfy.

my look

For this look I pulled out this fun top from my closet that I hadn't had a chance to wear yet. The pattern and style was perfect for these pants. Next I added my platform sandals and a brilliant blue bag and I was almost ready. The last touch were my royal blue tassel earrings. Fun, fun look that will be on repeat this summer.

Summer colors

in vibrant yellows and blues

create

You can get these pants in my color but in many other fabulous colors for spring. I'm linking these exact pants, similar tops, sandals and bags for creating your own summer look!

don't forget

I love these Bauble bar earrings! They come in every color you can imaging and are so fun!

Columns For Spring Fashion

I am a column. . .

They say you are what you think. Or is that you are what you eat?

Oh well which ever, today's look is all about column dressing where I wear all one colored top and bottom and then add a third piece in a different color. This is one of my favorite ways to dress because it always looks nice and it takes very little thought. I plan to style a white column and maybe a colored column here over the next few weeks just to play around with it. I just got the cutest white denim jacket that I can't wait to style and I think it will be cute on a colored column.

For this look I am wearing 7 For All Mankind jeans with my DIY hem. I love this brand so much that I ordered a pair of black cropped raw hem for summer. I'm wearing a pretty sleeveless top that has a sheer overlay. I wish I had taken a closer picture of it although it is old it is a favorite. My third piece was a waffle knit cardigan in orange by Free People. Then I added my orange Tuckernuck earrings and tan wedge shoes. A neutral belt and tote completed this look.

Its still gloomy here

But I keep acting like it's full on spring. What else are you gonna do?

I am staying really busy with work and home projects and I even got away for a day at the spa with my girl friends. I am sure I am going wake up soon to the sun shinning bright!

I am linking some of the same and other similar items in case you want to create your own look.

New Definition of Spring Color in Fashion

When you think of a spring color

What comes to your mind?

I used to always think of spring colors as pastels mostly. Or light and bright colors in pink, blue, green, yellow, purple. But this year I have been seeing so many looks that screamed spring and they aren't in the traditional colors. So I started thinking about my choices for spring colors this season.

For instance this spring I have worn camo, dark yellows, and now the look in this post with army green. I think it is fun to take these non-traditional colors and give them a spring twist. I do that by adding floral, checks, bows and more. In my outfit today I knew I wanted to wear these pants. Alone they are not very spring-like except that they are cropped which I consider a spring trend. So I added this light weight floral top. The floral design and the sheer fabric say spring to me. Then to really give it that spring look I add mules with big bows! My orange bag was my choice for this look. The chain strap reminds me of spring as apposed to heavier leather straps.

My look . . .

Sheer floral top, dark green pants, nude mules and an orange bag and tassel earrings.

So to recap. To add spring to my style without necessarily using tradition spring colors.

  • cropped pants
  • floral, checked or striped prints
  • light weight or sheer fabric
  • smaller bags with chain strapes
  • and blows or embellishments on your shoes
  • mules, peep toe, or sandals

All my things are old but I found similar items to link up so you can create you own look.

Thanks for Stopping by!

Peace!

Spring Fashion State Of Mind

It's all about positivity!

I know many of you are in the same boat with me. It's snowing and cold outside so I am using my will power to carry on as if it were spring in full bloom!

Over the weekend it was just me trying to ride out the storm. The winter storm in spring. So Saturday I spent the day organizing my closet, moving my spring and summer clothes front and center. It was a fun day and I got a ton of exercise since it was an all day thing of up and down the ladder to my upper closet, Kneeling and squatting down to lower shelves and drawers. You get the picture.

Sunday it was all about photo shoots. I picked out four outfits and three of them got the green light when I tried them on. I put so much on Instastories it was probably annoying but no one really sees them and it was good practice for me. Anyway, I got enough photos Sunday morning alone to get me through all this week's blog posts. Yay for that!

Before I knew it the snow quit and it started to lighten up and we think the sun may peek out tomorrow. Fingers and toes crossed because I am a little tired of running in the rain, sleet, snow, cloudy days. And that's another thought, I need to lose the weight I put on this winter and the weather is not helping. I think I may do another boot camp later this month. More on the soon.

This was my favorite look that I photographed on Sunday. This top is so killer cute. I am so happy I found it and it was 40% off when I got it which was just HELLO!  I am wearing a pair of DIY step hem jeans in white and my favorite wedge sandals. My Marc Fisher sandals are the most comfortable shoes I have. I love them so much that I have them in three styles. This pair has a light orange color which is a favorite color of mine so they go with almost everything I own. A tan belt, tan tote and my dark blue Baublebar earrrings completed this look.

The greatroom . . .

My favorite place in the house is our great room. But it is a decorating challenge to say the least. It has to be functional and comfortable and is due for an update. Mountain home styles are unique to say the least.

I almost always crop the heck out my pictures but recently decided to not do so much. It takes up time and affects the picture quality.  Soon I will be able to move outside more for picture taking and I can't wait. Meanwhile I am moving around my house and experimenting with the lighting and angles trying to learn more and provide better pictures. I'm a work in process! Ha Ha!

Here's a few so so cute tops you might like!

Bloopers!

I have so many photos like this where I am dropping something, tripping or doing something that looks silly. But it is all part of the fun of blogging!

I'm linking up some fun sandals and jeans for you just in case you want to create a spring state of mind look!

Thanks for stopping by gang!

Peace!

Camo For Spring?

Camo for spring?

It's a thing! All you have to do is add some white to make it pop for the season!

I guess we see camo being worn for about every season. It's almost become a neutral. I think of it as something I wear in the fall the most. But I LOVE these pants so much and had to see how they would work for a spring look.

In this look I wore a my newest field jacket, a pair of wedge sandals and a bamboo bag.

Here are links to my exact look!

Adding white to my look

along with wedge sandals and bamboo bag gave these pants a real spring vibe.

For this look I switched out my jackets for a light weight duster and loved the way it turned out. These pants are so fun with the zipper detail. They have a little stretch so they are oh so comfy! I tried different earrings with each look and just cannot get enough of the Baublebar earrings from Target.

Thanks for Stopping by gang!

How I Dress For Spring In The Mountains

good golly it is cold here!

But I am in a spring state of mind! I've said it before but cardigans are my savior here in the mountains.

I wear cardigans all year long here in this climate. I have cardigans of every color, weight and size and I think they are the epitome of the "third piece." Changing the color changes the season, the mood, the comfort and the whole look.

For spring and summer I take a casual sleeveless or short sleeved knit dress and add a bright cardigan with a nice weight to it. If by some chance it warms up I can drop if off my shoulders or take it off.

For this look I showed you a couple of bag options that I love. For jewelry I wore a pair of my new earrings by Baublebar. And I have to tell you these wedges are amazing. Several years ago I bought a pair of wedges that are very similar (see here, here and here) not thinking they would be great quality because of the reasonable price. But I have worn them over and over. They are a staple in my closet for everyday wear. So when I saw this style in an updated version I snapped them up. LOVE!

If I want a more casual look!

I throw a cute sweatshirt over my dress. I swear it is more comfy than PJs!

For this look I wore a cropped sweatshirt by Calvin Klien. I changed my earrings out for white tassells by Baublebar and that was it.  Anther easy look for spring in the mountains.

Here are some fun options for creating your own look!

Change your kicks!

Yep that is what I did for this look. Changed into sneakers and grabbed a backpack. Boom!

The above pictures are kind of dark but they showed my mood in this comfy style. Happy! Good grief my ball needs some air! I about fell right off the thing!

As Always

Spring Style While Waiting For Spring Temperatures

Baby It's cold outside

So what's a girl to do? Well this girl is still going to add spring elements to her style.

White jeans are an any time of year item these days, but really are even more perfect for spring transitioning. For me they make it feel like spring even when it is still really chilly outside. Add a white tee, also a spring staple and some fun wedges and you have a complete spring look. Now warm it up with a cozy waffle knit sweater in a beautiful spring color and you have it all. Spring style while staying warm.

I'm linking up my earrings, jeans, tee and bag and a cute cardigan and wedges for this look!

Add fun Jewelry in vibrant colors

For me, my new assortment of colorful earrings are a staple for adding spring details to a look.

I thought I needed a bold anchor color for this look so wearing a belt that matches my shoes did that for me. My leopard clutch seemed just right to complete this look.

Here are some more fun options for creating your own look!

As always Gang, thank you for stopping by!

The Color Of Lavender

How to describe a color

I seem to always think of a color through a true to life form. To me the color lavender is the color of the lavender that grows in my yard but also reminiscent of my lilacs. When I see lavender I can almost smell those scents.

Each season I gravitate toward a color that I call my color and center anything new I add around that color. I knew some time ago that lavender would be my spring and summer color this year. Strangely I had very little of this color in my closet. But there is always an upside! I get to search for the perfect pieces to add. This tunic just spoke to me when I saw it. It said, Cheryl, you know you are going to take me home. Ha ha!

Here I am linking up a beautiful Free People cardigan on sale, floral top, same jeans and same heels along with a cute bag.

But what do you wear with floral top?

Of course, my petal hem jeans, lavender heels and a straw clutch. For jewelry I wore my butterscotch amber necklace for a little contrast.

It was so fun that the only lavender thing already in my closet would work perfectly to complete a look. My Free People duster was purchased last year.  I l'm wearing 7 For All Mankind jeans, Sam Edelman sandals and a top by Zac and Rachel and my wicker clutch is Mary Sol.

I've linked more beautiful options for you to create your own look!

Thanks for stopping by!

Cheers To Each New Day

happy monday gang!

I hope you are ready for another week. An important one because it is one week closer to spring! While we're waiting however I'm celebrating each new day!

One of the things I love to do is celebrate each day and the way I do that is each evening (well most of them) I make a nice meal and make a big deal about the ritual of cooking and eating. I love to cook so I usually put on music and pour a glass of wine. I try to dress for the occasion (meaning getting out of exercise or house cleaning clothes) and set a table and think about how grateful I am for life, food and home.

This is not new, I have done it most of my adult life. It comes somewhat from my parents and grandparents always pointing out the importance of meals and family time. I don't always set up our meals in the dinning room or kitchen, sometimes it's on the patio, in the living room or even on a tray. But the sentiment it the same, to celebrate the day.

I usually wear jeans and a fun top when cooking.

But I have often worn, maxi dresses, casual dresses, shorts, slacks or pretty lounge wear. Just something nice that seems fitting for celebrating the day knowing no matter what I achieved (or didn't) I put my all into it as I try to do everyday.

My kids will tell you that dancing in the kitchen while I'm cooking may or may not happen! Ha Ha! A girls gotta get her cardio in when she can!

For this look I am wearing jeans from Express, a top from Ross and Marc Fisher platforms. I love the whole retro look of these jeans and top. Kind of a 50s or early 60s look I think. I added big hoop earrings for jewelry and my outfit was complete. Everything is old so I linked up similar things I am loving that you can use to create your own look!

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Peace!

Sheer Tops & Style Wise Link Up

So A sheer top you say?

I usually don't wear them because the need to layer underneath adds bulk that doesn't work on my short frame.

But when I saw this top it was so beautiful that I thought I would give it the old college try! I found a nice fitted little white t-back tank and hauled it all home. All the while thinking I wouldn't be able to pull it off and would be returning.

I styled it with my long and lean flares and my platform shoes and SHAZAM! I think it worked! I can't tell you how pretty this top is, with the navy color and white dots and flowers. It has big bell sleeves with a split and a sharks tooth hem. It has it all and screams spring!

My top is no longer available but here are some beautiful options for creating your own look. Sheer tops are so popular for spring and I am obsessed with the longer ones so stay tuned for that!

It was just fun putting it on

I felt sassy, comfortable and bohemain all at the same time.

The trick I think was the form fitting tank and the longer jeans to help balance my body. Also choosing a sheer top that was the perfect fit in my shoulders and length just hitting the tops of my thighs helped. My white cross body bag was the perfect bag for this look. I had to have a glass of wine to celebrate my success in making this sheer tunic work!

The first pair of jeans and the first pair of shoes linked are what I am wearing  and I've added more options along with bags too, for creating your own look!

As always gang, thanks for stopping by!

Maxi Season

It's Maxi Season

Spring and summer are the times of year when I wear a maxi dress the most.

I was going through pictures and brutally deleting those that were awful. When I ran across these I knew I wanted to use them even though the lighting is not the best. Because this dress is crazy cute and comfortable.

It's made of the nicest quality knit, hangs perfectly and the colors are very vibrant and rich. It has slits on both sides up to the knee and is shorter so I can wear flat sandals with it making it perfect for hanging out in the summer.

You won't beleve where I got it

I got it last summer at Costco. That's right, they have cute clothes there too! And I went yesterday to see if they had them again and they do. I picked up another one in a beautiful Merlot color. Score!

I always try to dress for dinner, even when we eat at home. I make nice meals and love to celebrate the day in style. This dress has been perfect for dinners here in Arizona.

If you can't get to a Costco, here are some similar dresses, flip flops and bags for creating your own look! My flip flops are leather and I love to have a few in black and nude for casual outfits.

Sign Of The Times

Pink Floyd

I lived through the times when Pink Floyd was creating ground breaking music.

The world was changing and music represented a lot of what was going on at the time. So when I wear this graphic tee it means something. I reminds of how the world has changed and continues to change.

Its fun to remember the days of my youth. My oldest son, now grown listened to Pink Floyd through his teen years too and still loves their music. I would call him second generation Pink Floyd.

Did you get those pants way back then too?

Ha Ha! Almost.

I have these cropped pants by Jag Jeans in four colors and I love how they fit and feel so they have spent the last few years in the closet marked out of style. But ya know what? I think they're back in style. Well, for me anyway! Here is the last time I wore a pair. Oh here I found another post of me wearing the denim ones.

I've linked up same tee (I own all the tees I linked up and love them), same brand pants (Jag) different style since my style is no longer available, same (GiGi) bag and other fun options for creating your own look!

As always Gang, thanks for stopping by!

The Petal Hem

What is a petal hem?

It's the thing for spring! We all know about the raw hem, and the step hem but now we have the petal hem. And I love it.

You all know that I'm not afraid to try new things. I am what my husband calls an early adopter. And the minute I saw a pair of these jeans I knew I would wear them a lot for spring and summer. There are different versions of these jeans but the hem is shaped to different degrees like a petal. These are minimal but I have seen some that the split goes up to the middle of the lower leg. I also notice that the lighter colored jeans are popular for spring. I still love my dark flares but these are in close competition for my heart!

Now add a pop of yellow!

If the petal hem is not enough to make you think spring, then get a load of this yellow cardigan. Think sunshine, daffodils or tulips.

Most places will have a cool day or evening as spring approaches so a spring colored cardigan can carry you through. In my case it will carry me all year long in the mountains where even in the dead of summer our nights drop down into the 40s and 50s.

Show a little toe?

Yes! I think sandals can be one of the first things you switch to for spring style.

The last thing in this look that is new for spring is the tie front shirt. Well the tie front anything is fun and on point for spring. I'm linking up my jeans, and sweater and options for creating your own look!

As always gang, thanks for stopping by.

Peace!

We've all been hearing about using Pinterest to help grow our followings by getting our work out there and I have been taking classes and learning more about using my favorite form of social media. And now I'm inviting you to join my group board titled Style Wise. Check it out here. It was created just a couple of months ago and needs some more inspiration so if you are a fashion and style blogger and would like to be a contributor let me know in the comments section of this post or by sending an email to northwestmountainliving@gmail.com or you can DM me @northwestmountainliving.
