Holiday Break

Today I was really struggling to come up with an interesting outfit to share. Everything seems to have already been done right now. So I decided to take a break for the rest of the month. I think I will unplug, unwind and maybe do a little redesigning of my blog. Many say blogging is dying out, people are bored with it and that may be true. I love to blog just for fun, but I can sometimes get caught up in the rat race. So at least for a couple of weeks I'll just spend time enjoying the season. I'm thinking of shutting down twitter and Instagram also. I know they are supposed to help people find your blog but they just seem to make blogging  more like work than fun. So I will consider what to do while I am taking a break.

For this post I decided to play with color. I love how a deep tan or camel color looks with black. I also love to take a more dressy blouse and tone it down with black corduroy pants and low heeled suede booties.

Boot Camp update: Week three is almost done, so three more weeks to go. I am so glad I am doing this, I am learning new ways to improve my health and being re-energized to continue building strength and muscle which is so important. I am challenging myself also, because this is not an easy program. I get sore, sweat and really push myself. If you are wanting to challenge yourself and get more fit, the next boot camp starts January 9th. If you want to learn more about it just email me and I will be happy to share my experience with you.

Thanks for stopping by!

Holiday Outfit

Today I went into my closet to see if I find an outfit for an evening out that would be a little dressy but not too dressy. To my surprise I found all the items I needed for a comfortable, classic and festive look. Everything in this outfit is a few seasons old and bought at different times, not really intended to be worn together. First I pulled this lovely black with gold flecks top. I love the ruffle detail! Then I saw in the jacket section of my closet this adorable gold jacket. I knew nothing would do but black pants and I think boot cut was a little more dressy and appropriate for the top and jacket. Happily I saw my cute little booties that have a gold buckle and a gold clutch to tie in with all the gold. Big gold hoop earrings was my only jewelry.

Closet Mystery!

I usually try to plan an outfit before I put it together but today I just went into my closet to see what would happen with no planning. What mysteries were hiding in my closet? It turns out, plenty! I started with these old grey jeans and went from there. I love grey, but because it can be, well . . . so grey, I love to add a pop of color. Pink suede pumps seemed perfect. I usually don't get into a bunch of accessorizing but today I thought painting my nails the same pink as the shoes would really add to this look. It turned out so fun.

I'm wearing grey jeans, charcoal turtle neck, grey and charcoal duster, pink pumps and a belt with a little bit of bling. It's almost too busy but, oh well.  I pulled up the sleeves on the duster because I just love the way it looks, kinda cool casual, laid back. Ha Ha! As if! The long necklace seemed necessary too.

Do you have style tricks that you love?

The county western girl in me never goes away.

No matter what I wear, I always love it when I get that country western thang goin on. I grew up in rural Missouri riding horses, living the country life and its just in my blood I guess. I probably have lightened it up a bit with pastels and pearls but you get the picture. The scuffed up toes of these booties, boot cut jeans and plaid button down shirt make an outfit reminiscent of country and western style.

Do you have a style you just keep going back to like it's home?

I'm so excited today about this boot camp I've been participating in. You know when you do something and see success and you want everyone else to know about it in case they want to do it. I'm only in the second week and I can already see change. We aren't supposed to weigh ourselves the whole time but I can see a difference in the way my clothes fit and the way my waist looks. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that I can get rid of belly fat at last which can be an indicator of health issues at some point.

The most important thing is, I'm learning lifestyle patterns that I can change and maintain after the boot camp. I have ate so little for so many years and I knew it couldn't be right but it's what I had to do. I ate what I wanted but just not very much. Of course I would stray at times but would immediately start gaining.

I have seen a lot of disease and disability in my family due to obesity, smoking and inactivity. A lot! Because of that I was sort of "scared straight." I also have been tested genetically and know I have genes for obesity so I don't take my health for granted. I always tell myself that genes are just suggestions.

Anyway, this is my first boot camp of any kind and it is just what I needed. I can start the new year being in control of my health via eating and exercising the right way.

Thanks for stopping by!

Change . . .will do you good.

I reported in a post a couple of weeks ago that I signed up for an online six-week boot camp that would help me build muscle and get stronger. I made it though week one and it was a bear! But I am still in the game, more determined than ever. I have always tried to live a healthy lifestyle so I read and try a lot of things. I have to eat very low calorie most of the time with lots of running and hiking to stay my healthy weight. This boot camp has taught me a lot of new things that make sense. I am loving the challenge!

Meanwhile, while I was thinking about ways to improve my health I was so tired of my hairstyle and knew I wanted to make a change there too. My stylist and friend whom I have been going to for ten years, helped me pick out a style that I love. I can wear it straight or curly and do so many fun things with it! But it is a change for sure. I have always loved change and believe it can only move you forward.

For this shoot I wore a poncho purchased a couple of years ago at Costco, it is a beautiful soft cashmere with soft neutral colors. I have on a thermal top (also bought at Costco) for added warmth, skinny jeans and booties. Yep, I like this change just fine!

How do you incorporate change in your life?  Do you see it as a good or bad thing?

All Red

If you live in a climate where you have long winters you really need lots of warm red items in your closet. It is a color that is so cheery and helps you through the season. This coat is just what the doctor ordered, it is warm but not bulky, a rich red color, the perfect length so as not to overwhelm me and well the list goes on about why I love it. The boots were such a good find last winter, I couldn't believe my luck. I pair of thick warm leggings and a chunky beanie made me smile when it was all together. So, I decided to take it out for a spin!

How to look stylish in beanies and boots!

We finally are getting some snow here. An additional foot is expected this weekend. Its a little later than usual but it is starting to pile up. That means I get to pull out my fun winter clothes and see if I can put together stylish outfits that keep me warm.

I have a couple of pairs of winter boots that I got over the last couple of seasons and they are going to good use. My rule for wearing winter boots is, if they are taller, I wear a slimmer leg pant and shorter coat.

Like you may a have noticed, I love hats! This season the beanie is my favorite. I have learned that a tight fitting beanie does not look good on me, but if I wear a chunky one with a full pompom it seems to work better. Plus they are warmer, so more functional.

I have had this tan down jacket for a few seasons, and it is the warmest coat ever! I found an almost identical one, the link is on my Boutique page. I have on a pair of very thick knit leggings for warmth and I added a blush colored top to match the blush in my hat. I ended up loving this stylish outfit that is just right for my lifestyle.
