Arizona Vibes

The Scoop

I’v been in Arizona for a week now and starting to get into a groove. It has been hectic, both my dogs got sick and it took some work to get the condo in shape. The weather has been record breaking cold but still warmer than Idaho. We have worked in a few hikes and I have started running more consistently. The dogs are all better now and today will be in the upper 60s so I see fun in my near future!

Here are some fabulous New Takes on an old trend!

So many sales on OTKs right now. I am drooling over the first pair. I love that the heel is brown! It’s such a fabulous contrast!

Give me all the orange bags! I have more than my share of orange bags but these are so closet worthy!

I have bralettes in so many colors and wear them almost daily.

My Look

I have to say I am so bored with fashion right now. I have been for most of the year but winter fashion holds very little intrigue for me. I am not sure if I am changing or if the fashion world is in a rut but I am leaning more toward sweat pants and sweat shirts these days. I’m trying to live by the words of Albert Einstein by keeping the fun in fashion and maybe that will help me over my hump!

One thing fun about only being here in Arizona for a few months each year is everything I leave in my closet feels new again. I didn’t remember leaving the pieces of this look here but thought it created a nice sort of Arizona vibe. My top is a thrift shop find, a Michael Kors brand. It is sheer and has a tie at the neck and buttons up the front. I wore a black lace bralette underneath. I wore it with dark blue leggings and these fun OTK boots. To top it off my third piece was this fun orange bag. It is my favorite bag right now because of the color and the over the shoulder style which makes it perfect for roaming around town exploring the beautiful city of Phoenix.

Sunshine On My Shoulders Makes Me Happy

black dress 8.JPG

the scoop

So disregard my hair in these pictures, I didn’t feel like messing with it and I was really just trying on outfits for our Christmas party this weekend. I want something fun, different and warm since we will be in the mountains. Above all since I am hosting, I have to be comfortable. I have tried on several things and still haven’t come up with what I want but I did like this look so I thought I would share it. I would wear this if I were not hosting but as a working host I need less fuss.

We got our final RSVP list and it looks like between 35 and 40 guests so we decided to ask our pianist to play the piano for us again this year. I had thought we would just play music but having a local musician has become kind of a tradition. I am putting real pine trees on each side of the front door and using real wreaths to decorate a couple of windows and laser lights to decorate the front of the house. It will all be very simple but festive.

these boots

Hands down these are my favorite boots for this season. I wanted to buy them last season but they went out of stock so when I saw them on sale late this fall I snapped them up. They go with everything. They are out of stock but there is a new version that I will link. The thing I love the most about them is the wood heels.

black dress 11.JPG

lbd

I took my little black dress that is sleeveless and added the warmest brightest sweater I had. I think yellow is a fun out of the box color to add to a holiday party look. Next I added my boots because I love the contrast of the brown boot with the black dress. I carried my leopard clutch that is probably the best investment I have ever made on a bag because I use it a lot and it is holding up perfectly. Plus this bag is the perfect neutral to go with everything. I wore a necklace that is several years old to add a little gold bling and that was that. Fun, warm, comfortable and a little out of the box.

create your own look

I’m linking my exact dress including the long sleeve version. I’m also linking my boots (this years version on sale now) and I think the same boots in black are fabulous also on sale! I’m linking sweater options, a pretty yellow one but wouldn’t the red be perfect for the holidays. And the purple is a trending color right now that will take you through spring and is so different and pretty for the season. I’m linking my exact bag too.

Free People Meets Ugg in Le Boutique

free people 13.JPG

le Boutique . . .

the scoop

I have a little room in my home that was going to be an office. It has french doors and is perfectly square with one big window. It is only 8’ by 8’ so I decided to make it le boutique. I set it up like a little store with a big mirror in the corner with stainless hanging racks and stainless shelves around the room. I need to change out the light fixture but otherwise it is the perfect inspiration room for a blogger. I put all my new and favorite things in this room and plan outfits for blog posts. One day I would like to do little videos showing my fashion favorites. As soon as I get the lighting right I’ll show you more.

free people 8.JPG

Free People Meet Ugg

the two were meant to be.

my look

My fair isle sweater is by Free People and old. I have it in cream too because I love the coziness and look of an over sized fair isle sweater. I just got these fabulous Ugg hiking boots and thought they would make a cute outfit with the sweater. As usual I bounced around my house like Tigger trying to find good lighting for pictures. I got one outside but it was too dark and I wasn’t staying outside for more since it was only 16 degrees. I wore an old pair of skinny jeans and this look was complete. My only jewelry was silver big hoop earrings.

I have the first three pairs of boots and love them. I added options for ideas!

Red and Black Buffalo Check

red 1.JPG

the scoop

Nothing says cozy like a fuzzy pullover, especially when it is in red and black buffalo check. We got our first snow here in the Boise area and it is friggin cold! Our highs this week are not going to get above freezing. I can’t wait until the end of the month when we move like gypsies and head to Arizona for a few months. Meanwhile I will enjoy the winter weather and find the best in my environment. I’m getting to eat more to fuel my body, wear all my fun winter boots and cozy up in the house with my hubby and puppies.

We’re hosting our annual Christmas party on the 15th so I am planning for that. We hold it at our mountain house so I haven’t decorated or anything there yet. I am keeping it simple this year with fresh wreaths and laser lights. Instead of having a piano player we are going to play soft music in the back ground. It always seems hard to talk over a piano playing although we did love the festive element having a piano playing in the background provided. But I want to change things a little this year. We provide the drinks and everyone brings a dish so it will be an easy event to plan. Can’t wait to see everyone!

my look

The star of the show for this look is my top. It is one I got a few weeks ago when I shopped at Walmart. This is the cutest top too. So warm and cozy and just the right weight so you can wear it around the house without getting too hot. It comes in three colors and I love them all. I wore this top with skinny jeans and an old pair of over the knee boots that I pushed down for a slouchy boot look. The boots were the second pair of over the knee boots I ever got and they are not tight around the thigh so they want to slip down anyway. You could wear this top with leggings and sneakers or lounge pants and slippers. It is really versatile!

red 4.JPG

create your own look

This top is on sale for 25.99 and I really want it in more colors. It is a perfect everyday top but you could really dress it up for a party too. It is an over sized fit and tts (I am wearing s). Showing all colors below.

Hands down my favorite brand for skinny jeans is 7 For All Mankind the Guenevere style. Linking those but look at the hem of the second pair SO CUTE. I always get my jeans at the rack on sale.

don’t forget the boots

Slouchy or boots that just hit the knee are so fun this season and something different than the over the knee. Mine are old Micheal Kors but I’m linking some fabulous boots that are slouchy or just hit the knee and all on sale. You may have a pair of over the knee boots that you can push down like I’m doing in this look.

Ugg Style

ugg

Boots

the scoop

I have two pairs of Uggs and a third on the way. One pair of slippers and these fabulous snow boots and a pair I just ordered on sale that are perfect for everyday in cooler weather. I love me some Ugg! With this brand I have to be selective because I don’t love all the styles but when I find a style I like I really like them a lot! I always get them when they are on sale and they are super high quality so you get your money’s worth in wear over the years.

my look

These boots look good with so many things but I decided to wear them with leggings. I went with a black column which I say, when in doubt, start with a column. You all know what I mean by a column. You wear a top and pants in the same color creating a column type of look. From there you build and create so many fun looks. I added these boots and a vest in a black and white almost hounds tooth design. For more warmth I topped it off with a beanie.

Column

just a pair of black leggings with a black tee.

create you own look

I’ll start with the boots. I got mine on sale a while back and adore them. The second pair I am linking I just ordered and are 33% off. These styles are really trending right now. I’m linking other options too.

complete your look

I am loving vests this season. They are a great third piece for any outfit. See more about the third piece here. I love them to be just a little fitted to accentuate the waist. You can get these for fabulous prices at Ross, Marshals, TJMax, Target, etc.

To create a column (see more about column dressing here and here) try basic black leggings and tees. I’m linking my exact tee. It comes in many colors and I wear it in black or white several times a week. My favorite leggins are Zella and I’m linking them also. I prefer the shorter ones. See more outfits with leggings here (in leather) here and here. And don’t forget to have fun with beanies! I have a few of theses linked and love them. See how I wear them here, here and here.

Good Reads

I always love to share good books to read and here is a trilogy! Michael B. Koepʼs final installment in The Newirth Mythology Trilogy brings a psychologist face to face with his greatest fear: madness. On the other side of the world, a professor of mythology struggles to interpret a sudden shift in the historical timeline, the mysterious discovery of the ruins of an ancient city and the anomalous nature of Locheʼs writing. Just click on the picture to link to more about this book.

Part one of this trilogy is The Invasion of Heaven here. And part two is Leaves Of Fire here.

My Walmart Haul

cozy 14.JPG

A Few Things

from Walmart

the scoop

I kind of hate Walmart. What they have done to the family dairy farmers and the way they shut down small town America really makes me mad. I know because I lived in a town where they run every local business out until now they are about the only store left. And that is only the beginning of the complaints I have about them. Until recently I’ve barely set foot in a Walmart for years. But the damage is done, they are too big to beat and now many communities are dependent on them. So when I started seeing a lot of things being shown on YouTube and other blogs I thought I would go in and see what I could find.

I found if you look closely you can find some fun things for good prices. I also found that there are some really poor quality and sloppy products. So check everything out closely. I bought a package of boxers for sleeping in a size small and one pair was a large. I also got a cute lounge wrap that had a big hole in it. In this post I will show you some fun finds that would be great gifts for others or yourself. Just check each item out before you pull the tag.

first look

This 3/4 zipper faux Sherpa top is so cute! The one I grabbed was well made. It has a soft inside so can be worn as a top but you can layer it too. It comes in several colors and is a very popular style. I wore it with skinny jeans and boots. I sized up to a medium so I think they run small.

I couldn’t find my exact one online but I think they are in stores still. I found some fabulous options online that I didn’t see in the stores. I’m linking those.

second look

I am always looking for comfy joggers that hold up to lots of wear. These fit those requirements perfectly. They are true to size and so comfortable. I wore them with a thermal top, lace bralette and Ugg slippers.

Linking same pants with two types of leg openings. I couldn’t find exact tee online but I think they are still in stores. The brand for both is Time and Tru. Linking a couple other thermal tops though. Also linking my exact slippers.

camo 7.JPG

third look

This is a fun look but the only thing from Walmart is the thermal tee. The vest just set the tee off right. I added pair of flares and this was my favorite look of the week.

For this look I am linking same jeans (on sale) and top (the top is limited in sizes but might be in stores). I’m linking cute vests and other thermal top options. You can find similar vests in all the stores these days.

Dress The Part

No Snow

yet . . .

the scoop

Bet you can’t guess where we’ve been. Yep, back in the mountains. We spent a few days there and I got lots of pictures. It was cold but not much snow. Hardly any really! I imagine that will change any day now. I am ready for a little of the white stuff actually.

Right now I have a fire starting in the fireplace and am watching three little deer munch on the grass in the back yard. Such a country life feel!

my look

I decided that since my days of dresses in this weather are almost done for this year I better put one on. This dress is a fabulous sweatshirt dress with a hood and a tulip hem. Not really stylish but oh so cozy. I wanted outdoor pictures so I put on a pair of fun winter boots and headed out. This is how you dress in a dress in the mountains! There is something cozy about a snuggly dress to hang around inside when winter is howling outside.

Five Years Of Blogging

A Blog

Birthday . . .

the scoop

I feel like I gave birth to my blog. I spent months preparing for it and my first post was a little painful to publish. I had no clue what I was doing. I just wanted to pour my creative energy into something and a blog seemed harmless enough. I always loved graphic arts and designing a blog was something I wanted to learn.

Like most bloggers report you don’t expect anyone to actually see your blog and for a long time I don’t think anyone did. I didn’t try to promote it because I hadn’t found my space or stride yet. Starting on November 13 of 2013 I posted irregularly and sparsely for about three years.

In the fall of 2016 I decided to take it more seriously and that is when I really started enjoying the full blogging experience. In February of 2017 I joined up with the Fierce 50 ladies and made so many blogger friends and really expanded the scope of my blog through collaborations and connecting.

I tried monetizing my blog for a while but it just seemed to take the fun out of it so I stopped. Now what little I earn is just an organic result of doing what I love. Telling a story through pictures and thoughts. Representing the mature women in the great big cyber world.

my look

The best part of blogging for me is the creativity it brings out in me when it comes to how I dress. I really think about what I put together in an outfit and learn what I like and what works for me. I love that this process is ever changing as I am.

This look is one I am most comfortable in. Very casual with a little edge. I’m wearing skinny jeans, a long sleeve white tee and cozy cardigan with leather patch elbows. Boots that just reach my knees are the perfect shoe for me in that they really finish my look and aren’t too fussy. I added my oldest and favorite statement necklace and this look was complete.

What’s Next?

I have thought a lot over the last few months about what to do with my blog and nothing earth shattering has come to mind. I am playing around with YouTube some and can see adding it to my blog for more variety. I have a good friend (found through blogging) and we are planning a YouTube channel where we talk makeup, skin care and issues in general for the over 50 crowd. We are having a really good time with it. I just have to learn a new skill which is editing video. I can do it; it will just take a little time. Everything regarding my blog has been self taught so a new challenge will be fun.

Note: This weekend my husband fixed all those cords hanging down by the TV so you can’t see them anymore. They were driving me crazy but he wanted to wait to make sure we liked the TV there first.

create your own look

All of my stuff is old but I found similar items. I found the same jeans in a few different shades of blue and same tee that I am liking so much I got it in multiples and wear them almost every day. My Sam Edelman boots are sold out but I found the same brand in a knee high that are cute too, so linking them.

I went and did another search for knee high boots because I think they are so fabulous. Linking what I found.

Peace!

Two Knee Boots

black 16.JPG

Sweaters and Boots

Sweaters and Jeans C/O @DG2HSN

the scoop

The title says two knee boots because I wanted to show you two different pairs of knee boots in this post. One budget friendly and one at a higher price point. I thought it would be fun to try them out and see if you could see the difference. I could tell but both had good points and bad points.

One pair is nice quality leather with beautiful stitching and one is totally not leather and feels cheap but looks ok and was actually more comfortable. They both are perfect for different occasions. I would wear the less expensive pair for everyday activities or really casual events. I wouldn’t worry about them getting dirty or scuffed. The other pair I would wear for parties and nicer occasions where I knew I wouldn’t be beating them up too much.

The boots of the season are the knee boots and seem to sell out fast. I like them because they are easier get off and on than the over the knee boots. I’ve had my eye on them since last winter when I started seeing them and thought they would be the next fun boot.

black 17.JPG

my look

I’m also sharing in this post more of DG2 items sent to me last week in a press kit. Two fabulous sweaters and a pair of but lifting jeans. They are all classic, very well made of quality material and great basics for the closet. The sweaters one in black and one in cream have ruffle detailing around the wrists and at the hem. They are not itchy at all, I can’t stand itchy sweaters and they are a medium weight so not too warm and not at all bulky. The jeans have a layer of fabric on the inside in the back that lifts and supports the rear end. It really works but you don’t feel all trussed up at all. They have a high waist and are very comfortable. I have worn them almost everyday since I got them a week ago.

I wore the black sweater with a statement necklace and my slouchy boots. I wore the cream sweater with a leopard scarf and the other pair of knee boots. The jeans were worn in both looks. I will be wearing these items often this winter.

cream 17.JPG

My Sam Edleman (worm with cream sweatwer) boots are sold out already but I found a similar pair in the same brand to link as well as the pair I got from Target (worn with the black sweater). I also linked same sweater (it comes in many colors), same jeans and a leopard scarf option. You can find DG2 items on HSN.com.

Saturday Mountain Style

leopard 2.JPG

My Saturday style in the mountains!

the scoop

It’s been so nice here in the mountains for the weekend. I have mixed in taking care of business, relaxation and fun relatively evenly. There are always threes things I have to do when I come up now that we are not here full time. I have to vacuum, dust and clean bathrooms/change bedding. So I break it up into a chore a day so nothing is too much. Then I always cook because I love to cook and eat! I try to get some outdoor time in via, hiking, running or just sitting outside on the deck. Lastly I do a little picture taking for the blog.

leopard 4.JPG

Each season in the mountains has its own special beauty.

my look

So, everything I have on is too big. I don’t know why I insist on getting things too big but it seems I always order them that way. Not always but often. This top is Free People and it is way too big. I always get a small in Free People but never again. After so many too big sweaters I have learned my lesson. This brand runs way large. My jeans are new and they are high waisted skinny jeans in my favorite brand. I ordered a size up thinking it would be easier to tuck tops into them but after wearing them all day they are falling off so another lesson learned. Although I can probably wash and dry them in hot water and make them work. My hunter boots are a half size too big too but with heavy socks they are fine.

Linking my exact top. I usually wear small in tops and this one is a small but an extra small would have been much better for me. Linking exact jeans, my favorite brand 7 For All Mankind (TTS), Linking exact Hunger Boots. My Tory Burch bag is old but I found another Tory Burch in red that is similar but my red is more of a fire engine red I think.

How I Weekend in the Mountains

boots 16.JPG

Fall

in the mountains is magical!

the scoop

Last night we hopped in the car with the dogs and drove up to our place in the mountains. I had been gone for a couple of weeks and was missing it. It was after dark when we got there so we unpacked the car and settled in for the night. Today, I sprung out of bed ready to face a chilly day in the mountains. I tidied up the house first while drinking lots of coffee.

I couldn’t decide if I wanted to work on a blog post but after getting dressed I decided to snap a few pictures and put up a quick post. Rain is moving in later today so I have lots to do until then.

my look

I decided to wear a pair of high waisted jeans, low heeled OTK boots, a black tee and top it off with a cozy blanket scarf. It was perfect for this fall day. I bought the high waisted jeans in my favorite brand but sized up so I could tuck tops in and wear belts easily. I am so happy I did because they are so comfortable.

How I Wear Flats For Fall

black 6.JPG

Comfort

it’s a good thing!

the scoop

Since we’ve have been spending so much time here in the city I have been wearing comfy flats a lot. You can see the stairs in our house and imagine the old walking into a room and forgetting why you’re there scenario. So I am running up and down those steps it seems a million times a day. Plus I take our dogs for a least two walks a day to get them out in the fresh air. Also we do a lot more running around here, like going to Costco (so much that the greeter says when we leave, “see you tomorrow!” Ha Ha.) It seems we always forget something we need and my husband loves Costco. We also love to go to thrift shops and explore the area. Anyway flats are in order for a lifestyle like this.

my look

The problem for me with flats is I don’t like the look as much as heels. So I am always on the look for a fabulous versatile flat. I found these a week ago and wear them almost daily. They have a quilted leather look that is so fun and they are black so they go with everything. I wear them with leggings, jeans, and even casual dresses. They slip on and off easily which is nice too.

In this look I also dug out something from my closet that I bet most everyone has. My leather scuba jacket. This thing has been in my closet for at least ten years. I felt like it was out of style the last few years but knew it was a classic that would show up on trend again. This is another basic that you can wear casual or dress up. Obsessed!

I wore my pixi pants from Old Navy (Spring find) and a black cami. The necklace is an old find from a local consignment shop. I have to go visit that shop again now that I am in town.

I’m wearing Pixi pants from Old Navy. Linked exact style and they come in many colors and prints. Wouldn’t the floral be fun for fall? I’m linking exact flats by Steve Madden. Love these so much I think will get a second color. I also linked my favorite cami from Express. I have these in so many colors. They are lined and very well made. I got my jacket several years ago at Overstock.com. It is a beautiful lambskin leather and very well made. I found similar ones there to link.

sup’

  • I am so excited to try out recipes that were sent to me in my last post. Thank you to those of you who sent them!

  • Yesterday I did HIIT outside with a run. I have an app that tells me when to run and when to walk. I run as fast as I can on the run parts. Awesome workout and it was so beautiful outside that I got my runners high in 30 minutes! Today is YMCA day where I do a weight circuit. I use the machines made for children or smaller people so they fit me just right and I move from machine to machine to get my heart rate up. I walk on the treadmill first for 20 minutes to warm up. Forty minutes and I am done!

  • I’m meeting one of my blog readers for coffee tomorrow and can’t wait. She recognized me in a restaurant in our mountain home town a summer ago and we hit it off right away. She lives near me in the city so we are going to get coffee and catch up! I’ve met so many wonderful people through this blog. That’s one of my favorite parts of blogging!

  • Is anyone else spending a lot of time thinking about the big bag of Halloween candy in the cupboard?

  • Today I have to pick up dry cleaning, confirm with the gutter company and plan our trip to the mountains. I also have to schedule vet appointments, go to the Y and oh well the list goes on. Ha ha!

the scoop

Hey gang! Well, here I am back in the blogging game. I have been going back and forth for a few months on whether I should continue blogging and I guess I sort of have been going through a mid life crisis. Is there room for me in the blogsphere? Is there a place for women my age to share their fashion and lifestyle? After thinking a LOT about what brought me to blogging in the first place, I decided that I want to continue for at least a little while longer.

You see, I started in the beginning because I wanted a creative outlet, a hobby, something that would be fun for when I had time. Then I noticed that in all the social media you would see so many fabulous bloggers, but for the most part they were young. Relative to me; very young. I wasn’t seeing myself in any of these talented people. I still read these blogs and find I learn so much from them. But I wanted to see women my age more. I wanted to let others see how women age. I wanted to change the sterotypical ideas a lot of society has about us.

So here I am, back at it. Keeping it light and fun though. I never want to add to the drama in this world. You know . . . girls just wanna have fun!

my look

Most of my readers like the fashion side of my blog. And since it is the most fun for me, I am always happy to share my day to day looks. Here is such a fun outfit for fall. I am wearing big old bell bottom jeans, a comfy flannel shirt, blue suede boots and I’m carrying a fabulous green bag. I topped this look off with a navy fisherman’s cap. I can’t tell you how comfy this look is. What I love most about it though is the colors. Dark rich greens and blues are the theme.

Well, not a lot of news in my world, outside of setting up our house in the city which has been way more work than I expected. But I have been taking my time and adding here and there as I go. Lots of fun projects to do as long as I remember that it’s the journey that makes it fun.

Here’s some quick bullets of my life right now.

  • I’m still trying to live a healthy lifestyle. I work out daily in some form or another. Like one day I spent the whole day raking and bagging leaves. Let me tell you, I was sore for days after that. Plus we go to the YMCA almost daily.

  • I love to cook and am always trying new healthy and not so healthy recipes. I am really into soups right now. If you have any soup recipes you love, please send them my way! I will even try to make them and put it on the blog.

  • I have decided to let my hair grow for the winter and it seems to be growing slow lately. I always think everything is because I am getting old. But I think it can also be the time of year. I have heard your hair grows faster in the spring and summer. Myth?

  • I started using Retin A several weeks ago but I’m going really slowing and only using it three times a week. I can’t tell any change yet so the jury is still out. I’m looking for more vibrant skin with smaller pores. It’s supposed to help your skin regenerate more since it slows down as you age.

  • I voted already and am hoping everyone else will vote in the coming election. Here is some useful information if you need it.

  • I watched a couple of wonderful movies on Netflix both staring Jane Fonda and love how she represents women my age in these movies. They aren’t trying to hide the lines in her face or make her look young, she’s the real thing. Here is the trailer to Peace, Love and Misunderstanding. My favorite was Our Souls At Night also starring Robert Redford. Here is the trailer.

  • I’m working on a photo studio in the basement. The pictures with the blank wall were taken there. Lighting is always an issue for me. But I have fun playing with it all1

Morning Pumpkin

IMG_5214.JPG

Something’s

changed . . .

I used to be such a morning person, you know the kind that a lot of people just want to slap. All bouncy and happy and full of immediate energy.

But over the last year I have grown into a grumpy not morning person. I move slow and feel like everyone and everything is annoying. I put my robe on inside out and my slippers on the wrong feet. Arg, you get the picture?

It might have something to do with the fact that I wake up at 5 AM every single day. But, I didn’t even know a change like this could happen. I miss waking up full of energy and smiles for the day. I always felt like it was a new day and anything good could happen. Has anyone else experienced this type of change.

I hope this is just a phase . . .

the scoop

I can’t believe for so long I posted a blog every single Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Now it is a struggle to get one out. It’s mostly due to my interests being more on family, health and home this summer. I have been busy setting up our house here in the city and I’m not good at taking pictures of the process so I have been trying to figure out a path back to my blog.

By golly though I think I have figured it out. I think one a week for a while will be fun. I will incorporate my fashion, decorating my home and other things new while I rediscover life in the busy city.

This post will be about my boot cut jeans style, getting my library card and what I am reading and showing you my formal living room. I will also ask your decorating advice on a huge pottery shelf area.

my look

I haven’t been doing any clothing shopping and really don’t need to do any. My closet is full of lovely fall items that I can use to create that cozy chic look that I love this time of year.

Here I am wearing a Loft shirt in blue strips with beautiful tie bell sleeves, WHBM boot cut jeans in a dark denim, Louise et cie heels in navy and carrying my Italian leather Adora bag in vibrant orange.

the room

I like to call this room my drawing room.

n

1. a room where visitors are received and entertained; living room; sitting room

Some would call it a formal living room and it is the room you walk into at the front door which I love. It’s a peaceful room that is always tidy so if guests drop by we have a comfortable place to visit. I sit here in the afternoons and read while I have a glass of ice tea.

The room’s decor is made up of a hodgepodge of things old and new, more expensive, less expensive, formal and casual. It has coastal elements, hints of French style, a little rustic edge and room for lots of future projects. I never tire of tweaking a room. I have few things in mind to change soon and by the time I post this I have already changed the rug at the door. I had just thrown an old one down until I found one I liked. I also added a throw pillow to the sofa in a muted yellow to bring out the yellow in the chairs.

Don’t forget your fall mug! I love having themed mugs for my coffee and here are some fun options!

I always like a little surprise in every room. Something unexpected tucked in a corner. That is where Mr. squirrel comes in. Isn’t this cute wood and metal guy fun?

These pictures are taken from the Juliet balcony off the master bedroom. I love this view.

other things i’ve been doing

I went to our local library and got a card and am so excited about all the resources available. It’s amazing how much libraries have changed. I am reading this book right now and highly recommend it.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • For readers of The Nightingale and Sarah’s Key, inspired by the life of a real World War II heroine, this remarkable debut novel reveals the power of unsung women to change history in their quest for love, freedom, and second chances.

oh boo one more thing

This post is really getting long but I wanted to tell you a couple more things. We joined the YMCA and I will tell you more about that in a later post but I am amazed at the fabulous facility they have and all that is offered.

Also, we have a new smart TV which is so fun and I now watch You Tube all the time on the big screen. I have discovered this fabulous interior designer that I wanted to share with you. She makes me smile and gets my creative juices flowing so check her out if you like that sort of thing. Dog Days Of Summer And A Blogging Break Update

Sup' Gang?

Popping in from my hiatus to say hi!

the scoop

There is so much to tell you and I don't really like to bore you too much so let's just say things have been crazy around here. But I wanted to check in at midway through my month off of blogging to let you know what's happening.

I was so over blogging for a a while and I am only starting to miss it a little. But even if I did miss it I wouldn't have time to do it. My husband has been the sickest he has ever been since I have known him. He is a major health nut but somehow he got walking pneumonia. And he is very anti medication so he refused to go to the doctor for six weeks. Finally I threatened him and he went and they put him on antibiotics and now at week eight he is starting to come out of it. But he was so sick for a long time.

My son and grandson came to visit for a week and we had a wonderful time. I miss them now that they are gone. We hiked, ran, cooked, made jams, went shopping and so much more. It was a whirl wind visit and I needed a couple of days rest after. I don't know if I ever told you this but my son is the male version of me. Seriously we love all the same things in life. First family, then cooking, fashion, fitness, etc. It is so fun to share things with someone who gets me so clearly. We are both introverts and just think the same way about life. It's interesting and fun!

Around the time of all this starting we were already in the process of buying a house so most the running, and making decisions was done by me alone.  We bought a house in Boise for when we spend time there. You all know how I love the quiet life here in the mountains but l also like the city life from time to time so now we have a place to stay when we go down. For the past few weeks I have been setting up that place when I have time between taking care of my husband and company visiting. We have one more round of family coming at the end of August but just for a couple of nights. I am prepping for that now.

Through all this I am trying to take care of myself which has been hard. You know how we always put others' needs first. It's in our genes. But I have continued to run a few times a week and have been extremely active with moving and keeping things under control. My diet has suffered since I have been needing a little comfort food, so lots of room for improvement there. You all probably understand the toll stress can take on your body. This spring has been a land mind of stress for me. I lost a beloved aunt, a favorite uncle, and a brother. My mother is very ill as well as other siblings with advanced lung diseases. My son went through a heart breaking divorce and then my husband got sick. I feel a little battered right now but know the only way out is up. So I make each day a day to be grateful and carry on.

Now that my husband is on the mend I plan to really work on my health, lose the five pounds that I put on over the winter and keep the joy of life as a top priority. Wish me luck!

my look

This was a very casual day for me like most of my days recently. I am obsessed with this long shirt that can be worn as a dress or a duster. It will carry me through fall and winter with so many styling options. I can't wait to experiment! For this look I wore a pair of DIY cut offs and a gray cami. Nude flip flops worked just right for the day.

Got Blog?

I plan  to be back to my blogging routine in September but I still feel I need a little change so I am trying to envision what that might be. Meanwhile I decorated my office in the house in the city. And I totally love it! I went with a bit of a French theme but really I had no plan when I started. I just went shopping a picked out things I loved and somehow they all came together. The desk is a beautiful deep red and I still have to get a chair and a chandelier. I tweaked a little more after this picture, added a few more accessories and installed my Alexa. The results were a peaceful pleasant space to dream, create and be happy. I'll try to follow up with better and more pictures soon.
